After a month of Xmas songs/entertainment in the home where I work, a substandard Xmas day, much flu carrying me through a family get together I had a day today I dream of. Big roast, family walk, two grandchildren loving my Christmas decs, much laughter and two special kiddies making it perfect, many photos but lovely relaxed atmosphere. They have gone now and left a lovely mess but I've had the best day

So good to read of a lovely family occasion, no hassle just a really pleasant day for all. Let's hope for many more such times for all of us in the coming year

We’ll be having Christmas Day II late this month as DS, DiL and DGS were all ill and, because we have birthdays etc, this is the first time we could all get together - turkey crown in the freezer, DD and DiL will make puddings and the rest is just a normal roast! You’re all so right - make the most of every family day, whenever it happens!

Years ago Paw was in hospital over Christmas, DD was in Australia being proposed to by (future) SIL so we celebrated Christmas on Jan6 instead. It was lovely!
The food was half price, there was no pressure to overcater, the shops not manic, altogether a relaxed and happy atmosphere - admittedly partly because Paw’s future was looking brighter but also just because we were enjoying a happy family day together.
I am glad you had such a lovely day!

We had fun yesterday too, I'd bought 4 of my grandchildren a Ski Taster Lesson and a Snow Park Fun Session at an Indoor Ski Centre as Christmas presents.....took two yesterday and we had a fabulous time with lots of laughter, photos and memories. We may not have finished with a Roast Dinner but we enjoyed our meal and hot drinks whilst watching the action on the slopes. I get to do it all again with the other two later this month.....can't wait!!

Yep, family times are THE best and I'm grateful to have been involved in many so far. Terrific. Mind you, I've also had a fair few unforgettable occasions with friends too. Totally blessed. That's me.

A fabulous day with our loved ones around is the best Christmas gift ever.

I remember one Christmas shortly after my dad had had a severe stroke, and my sister and brother-in-law were working abroad. It was anything but festive. However, by the beginning of June my dad had recovered a little and my sister and BIL were back home, so we had Christmas then. We had a Christmas tree, crackers, all the decorations, and celebrated. Probably the best ‘Christmas Day’ I’ve had.

Good for You Menopaws, I also glad that you have had a wonderfully happy day.
Christmas for my partner and I is rarely on the 25th as I am often working, so we have our " Christmas Day" when I am off duty. We actually like the fact that we are celebrating when everyone else has finished. We even save our Christmas presents for whatever day we are able to celebrate.

Good for you Meno ( pass the port?) wine smile
You celebrated the Epiphany in style.

Mapleleaf Tue 08-Jan-19 08:16:34

Because some people enjoy a glass of wine or port with their meal at Christmas , mabon1, that's why. Nothing wrong with that - as long as they don't have a problem with alcohol, and are sensible about it, and enjoy it, why not?

When I joined gransnet I didn't think it was for me at first but over the year or so I've been involved I have 'met' some incredible people and this simple but honest thread just proves how nice everyone is, taking the time to comment on a lovely day I had. Thank you all for your thoughts, it's made me feel all warm and fuzzy!

Lovely. Thank you for sharing.

I'm glad you had a lovely meal on the 6th Jan Menopaws. I think a lot of the pressure associated with Christmas Day is not there that bit later, is it? We had a strange Christmas Day meal. It went fine preparation wise, but DH felt unwell after the main meal so we didn't get onto the pud, cheese, etc. He went to bed and I cleared everything away. We tried again on Boxing Day and that was more successful, less stressed prep wise as most of it was done, and DH much better. However, I have to say that the meal I did for 6th Jan (epiphany, so last day of the celebrations) was the best of all, as it was a "look after itself in the oven" meal. Not ages spent in the kitchen getting it all ready. Makes me think it might be something similar for Christmas dinner next time! ?
Anyway, as I say, I'm glad that you had a lovely relaxed time with your family.

I did thank you Mapleleaf, my funniest moment was my just two year old granddaughter discovered my mummy tummy and stuck her little hands up my jumper to knead my belly, such a sweet honest feeling and made me feel lovely, no hiding it now!
