Good Morning Everyone,
I yet again wake up to dark sky and wet conditions here in Brackley this morning.
Today , brief trip into Brackley to check at a branded opticians to see if they do gift cards, a call into WHS and buy some Xmas stamps, then maybe browse at some DVDs before bus home ,and a quiet day in.
Mick

Welcome rose

Lins1066, thanks for the tip about Superdrug. We have three near us!!

Boots had a Black Friday sale on and I managed to buy a slimline set of travel straighteners reduced to £7.50, plus three for two of their Natural Collection mascara, which is sold out in all their stores here.
A great result, as I thought our local Boots was too small for Click and Collect and I couldn't face the crowds at the Silverburn Mall. smile

Marydoll Wed 27-Nov-19 08:15:30

Rose, welcome from me also. We are a friendly bunch!!

Good morning from the NE where we have dense fog. There have been accidents on both major roads with hold ups and usual chaos.
Shopping this morning and then DH will meet up with old work colleagues while I catch up with TV.
Hoping you had a lovely day with Evie yesterday, sending love gilly.

Rufus2 Wed 27-Nov-19 08:25:12

Good Evening: Congratulations everyone on your fortitude in even getting up to face, apparently endless dank mornings! I'd stay in bed all day! grin
Mick; the other day I posted a URL for an "Old Maps" website which as a cartographer I thought might interest you' I'd appreciate your comments prior to me forwarding it to other interested parties! Any chance?hmm
At the time I said jokingly it might save you on bus fares to your favourite map shops knowing that you all get free bus passes. It's nice to know that all the UK income tax I paid up to 50 years ago is still being put to good use! grin
Hope to hear from you soon!

start a new career as a TV weather presenter! grin
Marydoll Please don't! GN is already overcrowded with retired TV weather presenters (witness this thread) ; not making a good job of it apparently, as well as retired teachers. It could be a bad career move ! wink

Morning Michael, Annie and all.
It is very mild here in Berks, and it was me that got up and made tea this morning shock, as DH is not 100% and has been coughing a lot in the night.
He has a Dr's appointment this morning and will no doubt cough all over him!
Had a lovely long phone call from DS2 last night, and actually managed to get a few words in edgewise. smile

This afternoon I am meeting with some friends from Church, but apart from that there is nothing planned.

Still sending healing vibes to Gilly and her DH and hoping for more signs of recovery.

Have a good day one and all.

Yiayia4 Wed 27-Nov-19 08:38:27

Morning all,dry here at the moment.

Would love to be out sweeping the leaves but not worth the aching afterwards so DH will be doing it,maybe do some cooking for the freezer today.

Hope Gilly had a nice day yesterday, have a good Wednesday everyone.

Marydoll Wed 27-Nov-19 08:40:43

Rufus, are you implying that I'm not up to the job?

May I remind you, I am a woman, I can do anything!

Alygran Wed 27-Nov-19 08:46:39

Good morning from damp North Yorkshire. It’s not raining yet!
Off to meet a friend today and we’ll go to Saltburn to have fish and chips. Looking forward to it as I haven’t been for ages.
Not much else on but starting to get sorted for my weekend in Glasgow with the DDs.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Susan56 Wed 27-Nov-19 08:49:18

Good morning from Shropshire.A dull, damp day today.
I am going for a spa day with our eldest daughter and baby Henry today at a local hotel. We have staggered our treatments so we can take it in turns to look after him,he’s a pretty laid back chap so ??
Welcome rose??
Sending good and healing wishes to all under the weather or with worries.
Gilly I’m sure you had a lovely day yesterday with little Evie.I hope that things are continuing to improve.Sending love.x

glammagran Wed 27-Nov-19 08:49:48

It’s my DH’s 70th today - can hardly believe it!

Met with DD1 for lunch in Newbury yesterday, a half way point between us. Shocked to hear she has very high BP (I haven’t) though her cholesterol is low (mine isn’t) and she’s thinner than me.

We are going to a very posh Cotswolds hotel overnight to be pampered. Will arrive in time for afternoon tea. It will rain but it invariably does on his birthday, still it’s to be expected in late November.

Hope you get hold of your pills Marydoll that’s shocking. Hope you had a terrific day with Evie yesterday Gillybob.
Everyone else have a good day.

Good Morning All x

Still/ calm, dry so far and not too cold---no heating on or I won't feel the benefit when it does get cold later this week.
Middle of the week already and my trip to Asda yesterday went to pot as I was on the phone for well over an hour sorting a query out and I was quite flustered at the end of it so wasn't in a fit state to be met with more incompetencies of any sort.
I'm less intolerant these days I'm afraid.

So-----all being well so far, it'll be Asda today.

A flock of geese flew over a while ago, all chattering. There were dozens of them then suddenly they all changed direction and didn't fly to where I thought they were going, they veered Eastwards ?

So glad that Gillybob has joined forces with her DGD once again, some better signs coming from that direction and a bit more normality in her life. xx Good to hear.

Hope everyone else is okay and Marydoll keep out of mischief as it's not long now, so get the old pills sorted out.
All have a good day free from ills.

Good morning everyone from Malaga where we have another beautifully sunny one. This is more like it!

I’m late to post as I’ve been reading about Katie Price’s bankruptcy. Oh dear what a car crash. What a roller coster lifestyle - highs then lows. I feel sorry for her to be honest I think she is a very insecure person.

And then it took me ages to read all the posts from you lot! I’d drunk my cuppa going through them. Packing for NY, lunch in a pub frequented by Charles Spencer, spa days in hotels, posh lunch at an expensive restaurant with bite sized portions, kind deeds to a friend - I’ve really enjoyed reading every single one.

Oh and welcome home GG13 from Kenya. Bet you can’t see an elephant in your back garden this morning!

And welcome on here arose it’s nice to give newbies a shout out!
?

By the time I’ve posted this gillybob might have called in. I hope yesterday was a tonic for her.

Hope Wednesday is good to us all whether we have plans or none. x

A late good morning (they seem to get later!) to Michael and all GNs from a cold, grey, wet South Yorkshire. I slept like a top last night but am having strange dreams lately! We are off to a local garden centre today to try and finish the Christmas shopping. I say garden centre - they all seem to offer “multiple retail opportunities” these days, don’t they? Hope Gilly and Mr G have a good day, and ditto to all you folks.

oldgaijin Wed 27-Nov-19 09:17:37

G ood morning all from darkest, flooded Aberdeenshire.
The rive has burst its banks and the floodplain is rapidly disappearing under water.

Had a lovely evening with friends who were all colleagues when we worked for the National Trust for Scotland. The consensus of opinion is that the organisation is top heavy with admin staff etc. and they are mostly a bunch of eejits, but it was good to have a nice blether, a good meal and to get all the gossip.

The mutt and I are off to the very wet woodies this morning but he should be cosy in his new, waterproof jacket.

Have a good day and keep dry.

Rufus2 Wed 27-Nov-19 09:17:43

May I remind you, I am a woman, I can do anything!

Of course I don't! I wouldn't dare what with you being Scotch sorry, a Scot, living in Glasgow(?) You'd be an expert on weather living up there, especially the cold sort! hmm

But I must get to Specsavers; at first glance I thought Shirley said "You don't get older, you get fatter" She could be right some of the time, but that's not what she said, did she!?

gillybob Wed 27-Nov-19 09:19:32

Good morning from the NE coast where, as Harri said up thread, we have thick fog. I live very close to the sea and have had the fog horn in competition with the various ships “lying off” who have all been sounding their horns all night .

I had a lovely day with little miss Evie yesterday . We had a lovely lunch of fish fingers, smiley potato faces and peas (I will be finding peas all over the house for a while) and then we headed off for our shoe shopping fix. She was fitted for her shoes but they had very little choice in her size (it’s a tiny little Clark’s) but she fell in love with a pair of burgundy patent leather shoes and clutched one to her although it was far too big. The lady said they could order them in her size/fit so we left empty handed awaiting a call to say they had arrived . Probably Thursday. We then tried coats and hats on in Next before heading up to Asda for a little food shop. She is very independent now and at 18 months likes to walk although it’s a bit dead slow/stop. It was raining too and she seemed to find every possible puddle . Peppa Pig has a lot to answer for. grin

Anyway safely delivered home I went straight to the hospital to find DH greatly improved. I showed him photos of Evie and he really seemed to take notice. Not sure he knew who she was exactly but he stroked her face which was quite upsetting .

They are going to try him without the Tracheostomy mask today (using some nasal oxygen instead ) with a view to removing it altogether soon. Another very positive step.

I’m at the dentist in less than an hour then hospital, then “that place” then hospital again . NEED to win that lottery soon.

Have a good Wednesday everyone.

Love Gillybob x

Good morning everyone from a sunny Essex by the sea. I am off to London this afternoon to meet up with a cousin who is over from Australia with her family. The last time I saw her was about 45 years ago just before she emigrated with her mum and dad.
We are meeting up with another cousin and going to the Sky garden in the Walkie Talkie building on Fenchurch Street. I am very much looking forward to catching up with all the family news.
I hope there is good news from Gilly today. I wish you all a lovely Wednesday.

aggie Wed 27-Nov-19 09:26:05

Good Morning all, dull but dry here , thank goodness ?
Seniors Club this morning , I have no idea what we will be doing , but it is always enjoyable and it is a good test run for my hearing aids , still getting used to them
Glad you had a good day Gillybob good wishes for continued improvement xxx

Lisagran Wed 27-Nov-19 09:26:44

Oh Gilly so pleased to read your post and hear that you had a lovely day with Evie - that must have cheered you up no end. Sounds like good progress being made in the hospital too - that’s great. Don’t wear yourself out! Xx

Mapleleaf Wed 27-Nov-19 09:27:40

Good morning,

It's yet another damp, misty and dismal morning here in South Yorkshire. A bit of sunshine is just what we need.

It's my SiL's birthday today. She didn't want a fuss, so we are all meeting at her daughters for a surprise tea - she thinks it's the usual visit to me for a cuppa and catch up, so I hope she takes the surprise well! ?(It's only a bit of a fuss - not a full blown party at a venue ?).

Today I've got a few jobs to do, including some ironing. There are a lot of leaves on the grass again, but it's too wet to go and rake them up - well, that's my excuse, anyway. If it dries up a bit, I may go out and do it....

Hope your day with Evie was lovely, gilly and gave you a bit of a tonic. Also hope the news continues to be that your DH is making further progress.

Take care, everyone.

Urmstongran Wed 27-Nov-19 09:29:51

Such a heartening post to read gillybob just what you needed to hear and see last night.

Good morning all from a dull, dreary County Durham. Those hills behind our house are hidden by cloud once again.

Yesterday's trip out with GD 2 took us to Bowes Museum. The Lego trail kept her attention for a while although she was not in the least interested in the Norman Cornish exhibition currently on show there (well, she is only 3). A reason for us to return on our own I think.

Today some Christmas gifts will need to be collected and yet more wrapping!

Later some time to relax as Wednesday is the day I recharge my batteries after two busy days with GD plus after school teatime with two small GS's.

I do hope you enjoyed your time with Evie, Gilly. I'm sure she must have helped strengthen your determination to get through such a painful time. Please take care of yourself and know we are all wishing your DH continues to improve.

Have a peaceful day everyone. X

Ginny42 Wed 27-Nov-19 09:36:37

Great news Gilly, you must be feeling much happier with the improvement in your DH. However tiny it's all in the right direction. Evie sounds a little character and she knows what she likes! x
