Lurkers' week: what's the first single you ever bought?

I remember my brother bought "Walking back to Happiness" by Helen Shapiro which included the profound and meaningful words "wompah oh yeah yeah" in the chorus. Then my dad bought The Beatles first two albums for Christmas, ostensibly for me, but I suspect also for himself, my parents became born again teenagers in 1963 when The Beatles emerged on the scene having been shaken out of their classical music only vacuum to embrace all that modern culture had to offer! I wasn't allowed to put them on the record player, he had to do it for me in case I scratched them I was about 9 at the time so didn't have spending power. I think I started buying singles around 1966 when I was about 12, so it would have been The Beatles, Walker Bros, but can't remember what my first purchased single was.

My first single was River Deep and Mountain High by Ike and Tina Turner in the 60’s and I still have it now.

I received From Me To You as a birthday present and we didn't have a record player, we just had a gramophone for 78's. When my parents bought a record player, I splashed out on It Might As Well Rain Until September by Carole King. I still have it!

Jeepster by T-Rex, I remember being rather taken with Marc Bolan!

Do I count as a Lurker? I have recently posted a couple of times - but I am very new to it all.
I can't remember which singles were bought for me and which I bought myself. But I think my first was "Little Children" by Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas. Incredibly cringe making!

I admire those that can remember. Have been racking my brain but cannot recall. Could have been a Beatles record !

This takes me back, Daydream Believer by the Monkees. I had a crush on Davy Jones ?

My Mum made me buy Can't get used to losing you by Andy Williams. The next week I bought She Loves You by the Beatles!

The Rolling Stones "Not Fade Away", to my amazement my Dad loved it too.

The Bay City Rollers - they were massive when I was at primary school. My first single was either All Of Me Loves All Of You or Give A Little Love. I have no idea of the tunes or the lyrics now, despite playing the record constantly.

Living Doll by Cliff Richard - those were the days

Not Fade Away by the Rolling Stones. I worked Saturdays in my uncle’s record shop from the age of 14 and met a very young Mick Jagger when he came in to browse records when playing a gig at the theatre opposite.

It was Young Girl by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. Bought it with my then boyfriend (later he became my husband and later still my ex!)

I thinknit was "she loves you" by the Beatles or the Cliff "Young Ones" EP.

First single I bought was Diana by Paul Anka before I even had a record player. Then bought second hand one.

Glad all Over by Dave Clark 5, didn't have a record player to play it on, until girl next door took pity on me and gave me her old one she was about to throw out.
