Good Morning Everyone,
Yet another bright start to the day here in Brackley.
Have lost a few kilos in weight this week, with a sore throat etc, which was making it hard to digest anything, I took a lemsip last night which has worked , plus a few nose bleeds as well.
With the lockdown ,spoiling a pleasures of going out anywhere .
Where I live restrictions have come into force as to 2M distancing, community lounge and kitchen out of bounds .
So its room only apart from local shop/bank .
As yet to get a letter if I am one billions who then would have stay put due to medications etc I am type 2 Diabetes but manage to control, plus other tablets like blood pressure, and things all under control .
Mick

Good morning from a very foggy Scottish Borders.
The mice are up staying at their second home. I've had to set traps as we don't have a cat any more.
We were at the upstairs window banging saucepans last night and will be there again today.
Exercise today to be yoga on zoom if I can connect. I must finish knitting a small present for DGD whose birthday is coming up.
Losing kilos of weight would be serious if it happened here Mick so do make sure you are eating well and looking after your health.
That applies to us all children!! wink
Stay safe.

Morning Mick and All.

Another bright but cold day here in South Bucks.

Glad you are feeling a bit better Mick you are important to us. Good news Maw ?Enjoy your celebration Beechnut ?

DGSs have been told they must finish school today although their mum works for the NHS because she will work from her home and our DS works from his home with the boys moving between them. I do hope they will be able to return to school in September if not before.

My little hand held Thesaurus/Dictionary arrived yesterday. I’m quite excited about it.

Good morning everyone from Malaga where it’s sunny looking out from the balcony towards the Mediterranean but huge black clouds over the mountains at the front door!

Day 13 out of the 29 day lockdown. I’m wearing my slippers out. I’ve only worn shoes once when I went out (joyous) to the pharmacy on Monday!

Glad your grandchild is better Maw. As we know all children spike temperatures and get mini viruses all the time but to get one now would, at first, freak a family out.

Hoping gillybob got some reassurance last night from Dishi Rishi, let’s hope that it turns into hard cash soon.

Hope Friday is good to us all. Keep safe everyone. x

Good morning All - what a resilient lot we are. It is comforting to know that we are trying to make the most of these difficult and challenging times - but we will Carry On.

My poorly husband does not wake up until 10.30 ar least, thanks to weapons grade painkillers and sleeping tablets (and a hefty nightcap as approved by his GP) so I can go out for my walk and be back before he wakes up.

As his sole carer I really need my solo walk to clear my head and have time to think. I come back ready to start another day
of looking after someone with whom I have shared fifty three years knowing time is running out.

My walk takes me along a quiet seafront road then into a little valley - a gem down here in Devon. I noticed banks of wild garlic yesterday that were covered in dew and the early morning sun shining on them made it look as though they had been sprinkled with millions of diamonds. It was a wonderful sight.

I hope to get my husband out to sit in the garden after lunch when it warms up a bit and I will do some sewing. Of such simple things our lives are now made.

Stay out of harm’s way and keep safe.

Urmstongran Fri 27-Mar-20 07:47:25

A poignant post Calpurnia which touched me greatly.
? for you. x

Good morning from a rather overcast Birmingham. Lots of people clapped from their balconies and windows here, and some families in neighbouring roads set off fireworks. I think we should have another round of applause soon for shop workers- the security guard at the Aldi opposite did a twelve hour shift, standing at the door and directing people to queue sensibly, and allowing a few people in at at time, with great good humour.
I shall go for my normal walk today, slowly with my friend who walks with a stick, then faster by myself. Then I MUST do some housework. I had a very lazy afternoon yesterday, and to my horror realised I had eaten a whole bag of mini walnut whips!
Take care everyone. I hope there is a ray of sunshine in everyone’s life today.

Good Morning All x.
Beautifully sunny again which has been a treat this week.
Strange yesterday. On returning from the corner shop for top-ups of cat food, I bumped into a neighbour and we chatted----10ft apart, nobody else about. After she went, I was walking leisurely along and a funeral procession was coming along the road towards the prom.

First thing I noticed was a name in flowers and it was the GGC's dad, so I stopped and noted all the cars, loads of them, 2 behind the coffin ( families ) then saw D's car which is a big black Chrysler looking like part of the funeral business, then a couple of little faces so I gently waved. GS was sitting in front with his mum, aww, he's the same age as the deceased.
The sun shining on all the flowers was uplifting in a way for his final farewell. I was glad I was in the right place at the right time.

Mick, keep an eye on that throat as this virus hits the throat making it feel like swallowing glass. It's imperative to rest as much as you can. Drink hot water if you can and take paracetamol every 4 hours. Heinz chicken soup to help with your appetite and blood sugar levels. Hope you're okay. Ring 111 if you're not.

Thinking of everyone during this time----it's difficult. I don't know how Gillybob's going to get on with this scheme about payment. June ?? What's everyone supposed to do in the meantime ?
Staying well is the main thing this next two weeks and stay in too.

Thankyou to those for their kindness yesterday it was noted and appreciated xx.

Have as decent a day as you all can and make the most of the weather today before the arctic blasts at the weekend.xx

This sunshine just keeps coming ?. It’s been wall to wall for over a week now. Still a chilly breeze but can’t complain. ?Makes you think the world is normal ! We did a shop yesterday after 5 days of not going. We had to wait outside in an orderly queue until someone came out, and then we were let in one at a time. But once inside we certainly weren’t 2 metres apart. A shelf filler came right up to me as I got some pasta off the shelf and stood beside me to re stack the shelf. About a foot away! We are so careful when we go out on walks and then in the shop it’s a different matter. I’ll try not to shop for a good while. DH Is going to do his paper round tomorrow for us and neighbours but that should be it for another week. I love Gareth’s choice of song. - You are my sunshine’ . Always sing this to my GC. Keep well.

harrigran Fri 27-Mar-20 08:06:21

Good morning from a misty NE.
Today is DD's birthday, she is in lockdown in Brussels but will be working from home. Not much point having the day off when you can't go anywhere.
I had messages from GC with photos, youngest looks happy enough but teenager isn't doing photos.
DH had to collect a prescription so went to Aldi and caught a lull, no queue around the car park. He was able to buy two packs of toilet rolls, just four in each but it meant we could leave one on my sister's doorstep. He could not get any eggs, the hens must have stopped laying.
DH should not be shopping but we have not been able to access any online services at all.
If taking over the counter remedies like Lemsip check your medication, I was told not to take Lemsip with BP tablets.
Take care of yourselves.

gillybob Fri 27-Mar-20 08:09:17

Good morning from a foggy North East coast where the sea and the sky seemed to have joined up as one.

I feel so sad that Friday used to be my number one best day of the week but now it’s just the same as all the rest.

I do hope you are okay Mick you need to stay well to keep this lovely thread going . I think we will all be stir crazy before long.

I had very little sleep as usual with all the worry going round my head in the wee small hours. I can see from the posts above that I am not alone. These awful times seem to be keeping many of us awake at night.

I can picture a scene from Tom and Jerry in your house Kalu glad you managed so save the mouse but sorry it meant you got little sleep.

Glad to hear your little grandson is feeling better MawB and I do hope the rest of the family don’t catch it . ?

Enjoy you “special day” Beechnut I will raise a glass to you this evening .I like the idea of still dressing up for the occasion. smile

I went to the door at 8pm and was quite overwhelmed by how many people did the same . The clapping brought tears to my eyes. Someone in the distance shouted HIP HIP and everyone joined in HURRAY . It all seemed so surreal.

Had a call from my DD who is very upset and down at the moment . She took Evie to the door at 8pm and they both clapped for the NHS too. DD said that she was so excited and clapped and clapped for ages after they went in .

I miss them so much it physically hurts.

I had a chat with the accountant yesterday . It was kind of him to call me from home but heavens knows I lay him enough grin he said that I might be able to “Furlough” the lads wages (backdated) but wasn’t sure quite when the scheme would start. Not such good news for DH and I as although we are on the normal payroll someone has to be seen to run the business. (Me) and DH has been on the sick (without pay ) since October . We will see how it all turns out .

Anyway it’s going to be another long day and if the sound of the fog horn is anything to go by it’s probably quite chilly out .

Sending much love and very best wishes to all my wonderful Gransnet friends in these strange times. Hope everyone stays safe and well .

Love Gillybob x

Dragonfly I have PM’d you about returning goods to Amazon. - you will need patience but it is possible smile

Good morning Mick and everybody. Another grey day here in the north east of Scotland.
Only us and the people next door came out to clap last night - disappointing. I hope it might become a more regular thing including those who are looking after the children in the school and nursery hubs.
Thankyou Calpurnia for your post - helped me get things into perspective a bit ...

Good Morning from a cloudy Black Country. We have had such lovely weather this week, which has made all this more bearable.

I made some baps yesterday as luckily I have a big bag of strong bread flour and yeast. They are a Delia Smith recipe and are delish! They are called breakfast baps.

We were surprised to see most of our neighbours joined in the applause for the NHS last night. Most here keep to themselves and we hardly know anyone except for direct neighbours either side. We have lived here 7 years. I understand this is going to be a weekly event, 8pm every Thursday?

I wake up every morning and it takes a few seconds to dawn on me that this is real, and I am not going out again. My partner is working from home, and had an e-mail yesterday asking if he would voluntarily accept a 20% pay cut.

I had a call from the Dentist yesterday (no surprise there really) cancelling my appointment for a filling and making the appointment for 26th May!

Calpurnia I too was touched by your post. Virtual hug flowers

Nfk we bought a touring caravan last November with the intention of using it regularly come Spring. I doubt we will use it at all this year now.

Good news for you DGS Maw such a relief! Hope the rest of the family are ok too.

My DD is a teacher so at the moment is going in one day a week to teach the children of key workers. I think there are only 4 children going in! Thank goodness for Whats App video calls.

Hoping you all have a good day, with special thoughts to gilly Marydoll and Dragonfly

Marydoll Fri 27-Mar-20 08:18:19

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, we are a busy wee thread this morning. What would we all be doing if we didn't have Gransnet?.

Mick, that's a bit worrying your sore throat and losing weight. Remember Mick, if you are taking Lemsip, don't take paracetamol at the same time.

I had a long conversation last night with my friend, who buried her son last week. One of her line dancing friends is seriously ill in hospital with Covid 19 and she has recently been in contact with this woman.
They were all on a weekend away 10 days ago and people with them are now all self isolating. It's so worrying. The strangest thing is that this lady collapsed in the street with stomach pains, it has affected her stomach and not her lungs.

Yesterday I did a batch cooking to use up things from the fridge and some baking, but there is no-one to eat it, but DH and I. I will soon be the size of a house!
I'm ashamed to admit, that I may have found the source of Covid 19 in my fridge. blush.
It was very full (DGD'S yoghurts, Cheesy strings etc) and I jus kept t trying to cram everything in. My hands were so painful, I couldn't face tidying it.
I totally emptied it, as DGD hasn't been here for weeks, so some things were past their sell by date.
I was mortified to find a spot at the back, where something had spilled and there was a spot of something unidentifiable and sinister lurking there.?
I am hanging my head in shame! ?
The fridge has been scrubbed and disinfected to an inch of it's life and is pristine clean again.

My future SIL appeared with my prescriptions, he left them on the door step and swapped them for a care package for my daughter, comprising all the items which were near their sell by date, crisps, a bottle of wine from my former stash, (I can no longer drink alcohol) three pairs of altered Levis and new bed linen, all ironed.
I think it was a fair swap! wink
I usually have a full house, hence all the wasted food, no-one has been in the house for weeks. My children are all trying to protect me.

DD is struggling as tomorrow would have been her wedding day and I can't even see her to give her a ?hug.

Today I'm going to cull yet another wardrobe. The only problem is that the charity shops are closed and the existing bags are all piling up in the garage. Who knows what I will find in my wardrobe.

I would have been getting my nails done today for the wedding, so I'm going to give myself a manicure. Usually particular about my appearance, I have become a slob. grin
It's so easy to fall into that trap. I didn't recognise my very glamourous neighbour yesterday, dressed in a white forensic suit, no make up, hair everywhere and painting her fence! Our wee cul de sac is looking very smart indeed, as most of us are trapped her. grin.

I'm thinking of Gilly and all her troubles, hoping she makes some progress today.
Beechnut, best wishes for whatever you manage to do to celebrate.
For all those struggling, ?

Marydoll Fri 27-Mar-20 08:21:47

I meant to say, Maw, glad things are improving.
Calpurnia, ? I love your user name.

I want to make it clear that I absolutely do not sleep with my accountant !

Methinks she doth protest too much. wink grin

Good morning from the Shropshire borders where once again we have a chilly but sunny start.
Spent another day in the garden yesterday, will just mow the lawns today then a more relaxing day.We are having a delivery from the local deli today with basics and a few treats and hopefully ordering a meal for Sunday from a local hotel.
Ellan,I too am glad you were in the right place at the right time?
Glad you managed to speak to the accountant gilly, hopefully that is one thing that is now in hand.
Thinking of all dealing with illness and with family members who are unwell.
Mick, please look after yourself, plenty of warm drinks but speak to your pharmacist before taking over the counter medicines.Blood sugar levels will also increase if you have a bug or virus and a lot of over the counter remedies are not advisable for diabetics or people taking medication for high blood pressure. If you are still feeling unwell by the end of the day I think maybe seek medical advice.
Calpurina?

Good morning from sunny Essex. Marydoll enjoying your novella and I'm eating up my DGSs food as well. The chicken dippers were really quite tasty!! I went out at 8pm last night to clap for NHS and my beautiful daughter. Very moving and a lovely sense of being together.
More tidying today and gardening this afternoon before the cold weather comes at the weekend. GillybobsI hope you get some answers soon and to everyone who is struggling I send my thoughts xxx

Greyduster Fri 27-Mar-20 08:44:27

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. Mick do take care, and take the advice given upthread. Hope you feel better soon.
Gilly I did wonder?!
It was a grey start, but brightening in South Yorkshire. Not sure now what the day will bring except a trip to the pharmacy. We will have our usual “from the door walk” and face time the family later. I am making quiche for supper as we now have salad to go with it. Yay! Have the best day you can folks.

Susan56 Fri 27-Mar-20 08:45:46

Gilly?

Kalu Fri 27-Mar-20 08:49:47
