Good morning Mick and all from a cold, but sunny Glasgow. It's only -1 degrees here.
Sorry folks, I'm about to have a moan on this lovely thread.
I just need to offload.
We had a terrible day yesterday. My bereaved sister in law clicked on a scam email from Virigin Media in the early hours of Sunday morning, revealed her password and personal details.
The fall out has been awful, as she is not at all computer literate. We still don't know what other accounts have been compromised.
She phoned us in a total panic yesterday morning, saying that she couldn't understand what the Virgin Media agent in a foreign call centre was saying, so gave them our name and number and said we would deal with it. ?
We then got a call from Virgin Media and eight hours later we were still phoning, being passed from pillar to post. No-one would help us, despite us setting up a secondary password on her account, so that we could speak on her behalf.
They kept telling us it was wrong and quoting GDPR.
That's when I lost it!
Virgin had to delete the whole account, as the scammers had changed the settings on the email account and Virgin were locked out.
In among all this, my SIL kept ringing my mobile non-stop while my husband and I were talking to Virgin on our landline. I had to put the phone in another room, as we couldn't concentrate.
What made it worse, that despite us asking her many times to register with My Virgin, to give ease of access to her account, she hadn't done it.
It needed an email address, but of course that email account was compromised.
The agent suggested using an alternative one, so I tried to set up a Gmail account for her, but apparently she already had one, although she denied it.
She couldn't remember any details on her account and at one point, the agent suggested we might not who we said we were. ?
As we were sheilding we couldn't go round and speak to her and I certainly didn't want her in my home, as she has been going out and about!
I had to phone her on my mobile, hold my phone against the house phone, so that the agent could speak to her.
We were still on the phone at 6pm last night, trying to resolve it. We hadn't eaten for hours. I did something I said I would never do during Lockdown, order a takeaway.
Eventually, I had to go to bed, as I had had a number of angina attacks due to the stress of it all.
SIL was totally oblivious to the consequences of what she had done.
Today we have to start all over again, with the phone calls, but after it is resolved, I will be contacting my nephew in London to suggest he starts taking an interest in his mother's welfare. Power of attorney may be an idea, as these incidents are happening every couple of weeks and It's starting to affect my health.
MY SIL also has two brothers who live in the town, but she will not ask for help from them, nor her son.
Sorry folks for the rant, I'm not in a good place this morning, I feel quite unwell.
Unfortunately, the maths class will be closed today, I am going to be verrrry busy!
Thinking of Dragonfly, Gilly and Gramamretto's husband.
Take care folks.
