Here we are again. As happy as we can be (in the circumstances). All good pals and jolly good company.

Cheers! cupcake wine brew cafe and whatever else that you fancy, providing it's legal. smile

Thank you for your commiserations re my car. Unfortunately I don’t have a dash cam, and the houses at the side of the road where I was parked did not have cameras. I wish I had gone to the supermarket and parked on a proper car park instead of the little individual chemist shop at the side of the road.
Too late for what iffery’s.
My excess is £200 and “no claims” is protected, but it will almost certainly mean my premiums will go up at the next opportunity to assess the insurance. ? ☹️

Puzzler61 Sat 24-Oct-20 22:23:46

Goodnight grans, I hope we all feel energised tomorrow from the extra hour abed with the clocks going back an hour tonight ⏰

Crikey, chaps! soop opens the Kitchen door just a crack - at noon - and now there are 22 posts (?) and I will have to try harder to condense my comments whilst racing to post before another half a dozen more Kitchener types turn up with theirs.

Have to say it does sound cheery in here today - despite puzzler 's nice car being rammed by some oik who (with all the cameras about, as Susan has mentioned) must have been photographed somewhere as he drove away from the scene of an accident! Hateful people are on the increase, I think. Well done you for taking it all on the chin, puzzler. The only sensible thing to do - you weren't hurt and it's only "stuff". That's what I try to think about if I'm involved in something like that.flowers Sometimes it actually works too!

Two lovely new words for me "guddle" and "skooshed" (or cuddle and smooshed, my iPad argued ..... but I won) Hopefully you won't be living in anything like your lovely descriptive word for too much longer, Syn. It does sound lovely and hopefully worth the wait. I too would take great exception to the poor finishing of the job. Do hate workmen who do something good but still manage to create something bad whilst they're there. Such a small thing to do to make sure the customer is thrilled with the job! Still soop's idea of asking the decorator to clean the ceiling for you is an excellent one, I feel.

Hope you all have had reasonable weather today. We had a glorious day after a couple of rather damp and grey ones. We found ourselves at lunchtime on a deserted beach, apart from a family or two picnicking, and after a couple of miles we sat in the sun and just watched the sparkly surf and the odd sailing boat. A couple of brave souls were swimming, although it was T-shirt and sunglasses temperatures and after our walk and lunch, we were able to cut the lawn and sit and listen to the bees and a lot of birdsong in the garden.

It seems that there's a real feeling of frustration and some sadness in the air elsewhere on Gransnet and, well, it appears so in the country generally. It's much the same here and people are quite tired of feeling stressed and having to follow orders. It's all gone on too long and we have no way of knowing when it will all stop. So, we're all getting down days and feeling a bit fed up with life in general. But change has to come and meanwhile, we must keep those smiles polished and find some positive things each day to keep up our spirits. Fortunately, there are enough of us here to do a proper job on anyone who feels low or dispirited. Chins up, ladies. (oh dear that wasn't meant to sound like a fat joke!).

Lovely for you to have a new laptop, NanaandG. They are so worth it - I just hate the getting acclimatised part. Clearly not enough patience here!

Hope that, in spite of feeling rough on antibiotics, your DD has taken a definite turn for the better now, Susan. A big worry for you, but you're stars for holding on to the Marvellous Miss Matilda and not unleashing her on her poor fragile Mummy until Mummy is feeling a lot stronger. Building villages and getting all Snakes and Laddered out is very tiring work, as you and Mr S can confirm. Hope you are planning on setting aside a few days soon when you can pretend you're both retired and can slump around doing just what you please, or nothing, just for a change! grin

So glad the Princess Tara's meds are working, Charley and very pleased to hear you sounding so positive about the start of your recovery, Ann. It must be marvellous to have that behind you and know that you won't just be stuck with all that pain for the foreseeable.

Sleep well, everyone. Hugs from French France!

There was I having a peaceful Saturday at home, now I’ve got my cushions and furniture in disarray and mud all over the carpets.
But I’m delighted as it meant I’d been invaded by darling daughter and family who’d decided to have a ramble along the local coastline for an hour or so and then call in on me.
Somewhat chaotic as I wasn’t expecting them, but it was lovely to see them.
We decided that hugs were a step too far but we had a virtual hug.
Had to endure Fireman Sam the movie but it was worth it.
I’m going to bed a happy Graggy

Nannytopsy Sun 25-Oct-20 03:26:59

A new kitchen! Love the decor but what is that funny fishy smell? ?
What a lovely surprise Galen! I expect that will give you a boost for a few days.
We have come to Kent to visit DD & SiL. Lovely food, rugby to watch and their company to enjoy. We are staying in a local motel as they have had a substantial flood which has wrecked their guest room.
The only fly in the ointment is my increasingly painful knee. GP phone call on Monday I think. That’s why I’m hopping round the kitchen at this ungodly hour.
I hope the rest of you are sound asleep.
TOYA

Puzzler61 Sun 25-Oct-20 07:27:05

Was this school called “Hogwarts” Grandmabatty ?

Puzzler61 Sun 25-Oct-20 07:29:36

Nannyt please be careful hopping in a kitchen, there are many hazards especially when it’s a room you’re not used to. Sorry you are having such pain, our joints do wear out before we do unfortunately. Please let us know what the Doctor says. ?

baubles Sun 25-Oct-20 07:58:55

Just popping in to leave a fresh pot of coffee on the stove along with a basket of croissants, the almond ones are particularly delicious.

Hope all the Kitcheners have a good Sunday.

Puzzler61 Sun 25-Oct-20 08:46:09

You are a sweetheart baubles. That’s my breakfast sorted, thank you! ? ☕️

Charleygirl5 Sun 25-Oct-20 08:51:19

I will be walking around more of a zombie than usual. Tara's body clock I think has stopped working because she woke me at 4 am, in old money, 3 am and would not leave me alone until I got up at 8 am. At least she ate the food with her medicine in it. Hunger may be a problem during the night but she does have biscuits if desperate. I can see me nodding off every time I sit down.

Puzzler61 Sun 25-Oct-20 09:04:25

I think tough love required Charley. May I suggest each time Tara goes to sleep today you gently prod her awake to get the message across her behaviour was unacceptable ?

NanaandGrampy Sun 25-Oct-20 09:07:59

Morning all,

Anyone forget the clocks went back ?? I'm saying nothing !!

The coffee and almond croissants are right up my street Baubles so I don't mind if I do !!

Sorry to hear about your car Puzzler - some people have no soul do they?

Following the ghost story with delight Grandmabatty!!

Galen what a smashing surprise. Id have loved that too. I hope you enjoyed every minute ( well except the Fireman Sam movie of course!!)

Tara needs a watch Charlie :-)

Nothing of any real interest going on here today. I shall be busy transferring the necessary from one machine to another and drinking too much coffee I suspect .

So wishing you all a happy day x

MawB2 Sun 25-Oct-20 09:25:16

Good news, bad news, could be worse news day?
Good morning all, yes I remembered about the clocks but no, Hattie still had me up about 3 (or was that 2) and 5.30 which was probably 4.30. Not best pleased but found this morning she had been sick in the hall - which presumably was why she agitated to go out, bless her she comes upstairs, pushes the door open and whimpers for my attention. Can’t argue with that. Not too bad anyway, I didn’t stand in it!
So good news for Galen - these surprise visits are to be treasured aren’t they? A taste of “normality” - like my outing to John Lewis yesterday for a browse around and an actual coffee and a cheese scone! I felt as if I’d been away for a holiday!
So sorry about your car Puzzler but TG nobody was in it. Paw always used to say (and with teenage daughters 2 of whom managed to write off two of my cars) “Only bent metal”
Best way to look at it.
Soop also has good news for November and hopefully a much more comfortable Christmas.
Stopped raining, and a lovely morning but as my tea is cooling beside me I will end for now TOYA

soop Sun 25-Oct-20 13:33:17

What a busy bunch you lot are in this kitchen of ours. You've so much news to share and I am slowly but surely playing catch-up.

I've decided to sort my medical files. Of which there are many. It helps to have all the info' I shall need to share in some semblance of order when going into hospital. I can think of stuff I would sooner do - but needs must.

I shall return.

Grandmabatty Sun 25-Oct-20 14:30:48

... The following day the strangest thing yet happened. It was a parents night and the school was busy. Lots of parents chatting and laughter. I had to nip down to the management corridor to speak to the Head Teacher. There was a bit of a queue so I stood waiting, idly looking at the old photographs of previous years which were hung outside his office. My eye was caught by one particular photo which I hadn't really looked at before. There was the man of the previous night, sitting in the middle of the front row, looking very serious. But how could it have been him- the photograph was dated 1958? It wasn't possible!

Nannytopsy Sun 25-Oct-20 15:32:29

This is getting creepy Grandmabatty! I love almond croissants - are there any left?

Puzzler61 Sun 25-Oct-20 16:21:12

It wasn’t possible - you must have seen a ?!

kittylester Sun 25-Oct-20 16:28:53

Galenthe best sort of surprise!! How lovely.

We went to watch Bertie play football this am. His sister informed me that they just be to interview a house which had a 'cupoujie* in the bathroom. Dont know what one is - but I want one!!

dragonfly46 Sun 25-Oct-20 16:37:35

How do you interview a house kitty?
I love that can you let me know where I can get a 'cupoujie'!

soop Sun 25-Oct-20 16:41:08

Grandmabatty I'm loving your story. I came in specially to catch up with the latest episode.

Grandmafrench As per, your post is full of interest and a joy to read.

kitty Could it have been a bidet? I prefer your granddaughter's word. smile

Galen your surprise visit was the best ever treat and I'm pleased that you enjoyed every moment.

Maw Had I been with you, I too would have thought that I was on holiday. Small treats seem so much more special these days.

baubles Darling girl! Yes please. I shall be polite and pass the plate around. Maybe keep two for later. wink

annsixty Sun 25-Oct-20 16:50:34

Suggest jacuzzi kitty
Would love to interview a house though.

Grandmabatty Sun 25-Oct-20 17:03:26

I've made banana bread and peanut butter cookies for dgs tomorrow. I'll bring some to the kitchen. I might make pineapple upside down cake too. Any takers? ?

Nannytopsy Sun 25-Oct-20 17:08:14

I think you may have it Ann! That i at the end of the word is a clue. Just got home from DDs - such a treat to see them. We are going to them for Christmas ( all being well) and I have started a list of things to take. At the top is a bottle of sherry ?

kittylester Sun 25-Oct-20 17:16:12

I think she meant jacuzzi too but they will be forever known as a cupoujie in our family!

Dd3's partner has been going for interviews and they have had viewings of their house so I think that's where it came from.

DS1 christened skyscrapers 'skywipers' when he was young and we've never managed to stop saying it.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 25-Oct-20 17:19:01

Enjoying being spooked Grandmabatty
I have had an odd day, feeling a bit low and maudlin so I have just watched two
Christmas films back to back on Channel 5.
They were American and predictable from the first line of dialogue, still a little bit of cheer in gloomy times ??
