I have just heard the very sad news, Sean Connery has died.

boodymum67 Sat 31-Oct-20 13:51:11

Sean was an absolute LEGEND. shame shame shame. loved him..still do

BlueBelle Sat 31-Oct-20 13:51:26

I m glad you all liked a man who clearly advocated giving a woman ‘a slap’ if they warranted it !!!!

rafichagran Sat 31-Oct-20 13:53:35

To me he was always James Bond, no one bettered him in my opinion.

Chardy Sat 31-Oct-20 14:03:50

Bluebelle Diane Cilento's autobiography also highlighted his problem, as well as his own admission

Kalu Sat 31-Oct-20 14:07:09

Today we are saddened by the death of a screen idol BlueBell.

Perhaps you would like to start a thread on his imperfections as we are not discussing ‘the person’ as such.

BlueBelle Sat 31-Oct-20 14:07:49

Exactly chardy he openly says that he believes it’s perfectly ok to “slap” a woman if they are annoying him There’s a YouTube of the interview anyone can watch the words come out of his mouth
I cannot admire that kind of man even if he’s a top rate actor and amazed that everyone things it’s ok and he’s wonderman

I first heard him say that when I was working with abused women need I say more

Galaxy Sat 31-Oct-20 14:08:13

Bluebelle is absolutely entitled to her view.

BlueBelle Sat 31-Oct-20 14:15:57

No thank you Kalu I don’t wish to start another thread on Sean Connery just highlighting the fact that he is a domestic abuser I believe his first wife left because ‘he beat her’ although I think his second marriage seemed to last but if you you tube Sean Connery s interview about slapping women you will hear it for yourself ...I m certainly not making it up no axe to grind against a 90 year old top actor apart from that
Always good to know both sides of the story isn’t it
Thank you Galaxy but not an opinion it’s factual

Galaxy Sat 31-Oct-20 14:17:52

Yes fair point bluebelle.

Deedaa Sat 31-Oct-20 14:25:36

Just when you thought 2020 couldn't get any worse. Anyone remember him as Hotspur in An Age Of Kings in the early 60s?

NotAGran55 Sat 31-Oct-20 14:33:40

I could never mourn the passing of a man who thinks it is OK to hit women even if I was related to him .
I can’t believe that anyone could ?

Mind you there are still people around who think that Jimmy Saville was a legend too so nothing surprises me .

Feelingmyage55 Sat 31-Oct-20 14:34:31

Sad, I was already wallowing today, now I am sadder. He was a beautiful Bond but many of his other films showcase his acting talent rather better. He certainly had a twinkle in his eye. I am going to watch Seven Days Last Summer tonight if I can find it and remember the pleasure he gave to millions of cinema goers.

TerriBull Sat 31-Oct-20 14:56:16

Maybe, he was the perfect James Bond, but I echo Bluebell's opinion, he thought it was okay to slap women around, sorry wasn't a fan.

Urmstongran Sat 31-Oct-20 15:43:03

He was SO handsome. You have the accent to a ‘t’ there lemongrove! He was the best James Bond, just so sexy. Although Daniel Craig is running a close second.

Rosalyn69 Sat 31-Oct-20 15:47:41

Regardless of his private life I thought he was the best James Bond.

Spangler Sat 31-Oct-20 16:19:47

Am I alone in thinking that he didn't live up to Fleming's image of Bond? Like most of my cohorts I had devoured the 007 books, Bond was an image in my mind's eye, one that no actor has ever lived up to.

To think that if you cannot better someone in an argument, or worse, if that someone is the significant other in your life, and you think it's ok to knock them about a bit, then you deserve all the brick-bats that come your way.

A fine actor, no doubt. And a great Bond. But not a nice man.

trisher Sat 31-Oct-20 17:18:58

Best Bond and an excellent actor. Hope they show some of his other films. He was 90, a man who grew up in a different time and in a working class culture, where male violence was common. HIs second marriage lasted nearly 50 years so perhaps he learned something. RIP

I’m glad I’m not the only one not joining in the adoration.

How good of him to remind folk to slap a woman with an open hand, as opposed to a closed one for a man.

Pantglas2 Sat 31-Oct-20 17:54:26

I wonder how many screen idols, or indeed any ‘heroes’ also have feet of clay in real life?

seacliff Sat 31-Oct-20 18:05:23

I never knew that about him! Shocked that he said he hadn't changed his mind.

eazybee Sat 31-Oct-20 18:19:29

The best Bond and a good actor, but his memory is tarnished by his attitude towards women.

Galaxy Sat 31-Oct-20 18:22:05

Just watched his obituary on the BBC, not a mention of this issue, I have sadly come to realise the BBC dont like women much.

sukie Sat 31-Oct-20 18:50:04

I saw him in Sept., 2003 in St. Andrews. As tiredoldwoman said, he was just walking around. When I think of James Bond, I think of Sean Connery but I'll go on record as having no tolerance for bullies or abusers.

trisher Sat 31-Oct-20 22:00:42

I think he had the sort of sense of humour which enjoyed causing upset and shocking interviewers. Did he believe what he said? I'm not sure, he was after all an actor.
