Well, fellow Argy Bargers, after some hard bargaining with
Moneybags Mike our landlord, I have managed to secure another short term lease. The scoundrel wanted ten pounds a month, but I showed him my maroon bloomers and he reduced it to seven pounds.Result!?

Charleygirl5....You're in denial, nobody has forgotten your dance of the seven veils on Belly Dancing Nite, it was legendary! Shame that you fell off the table with one veil to go....we all got an eyeful.
So, that being the case, on Friday night ....kick off those slippers girl and shimmy round here for some drinking games.

Will there be singing? I know we aren't supposed to sing given current guidelines well, at least not choral singing. I get the impression The Argy doesn't take the regs very seriously.

AGAA4 Mon 02-Nov-20 19:45:34

What regs?

Iam64 Mon 02-Nov-20 19:48:30

That's the spirit AGAA4

The Admiral has said he will be in charge of the fireworks but as he blew up one of his ships we should keep well away.

Keep that silly old fool away from the bottle. Remember the last time, when he got so rat-arsed that he mistook a firework for a cigar. Put a whole new meaning to bangers & mash.

Think if we are having a bonfire we have to have some black peas.
I have lots of potatoes just dug up so don't waste your bloomer flashing on the greengrocer (unless you'd like to)...

mancgirl Mon 02-Nov-20 23:14:24

Not been in the Argy Bargy Bar before. Please can I come. I have found a box of Standard fireworks. It says 2/6d on the box. I'm sure they will set things off with a bang! Can also bring some Lancashire hotpot!

NotSpaghetti Mon 02-Nov-20 23:21:31

Hello Mancgirl - I'm new too...
do you have any black peas there? They used to be popular in Lancashire.

mancgirl Tue 03-Nov-20 09:03:06

Hi Spaghetti saw black peas advertised locally only yesterday. A welcome addition to bonfire night. I'll bring a big panful!

Iam64 Tue 03-Nov-20 09:04:14

Yes mancgirl, bring the black peas, delicious

lemongrove Tue 03-Nov-20 09:47:17

Ah, lots of new staff members for the bar!(rubs hands with glee) I shall pin the new cleaning rota up on the wall in the kitchen.....see that you all collect your marigolds mops and buckets from the scullery and get cracking.
Iam64 you are on llama washing duty ( pay particular attention to their rear ends...) wash, dry and brush all four of them every other day.
mancgirl you can help Achilles ( cellar man) tap his pipes and then whitewash the cellar walls ....first collecting all the mushrooms that grow in the damp.
NotSpagetti You’re with Doodle polishing the tables and bar top, lighting the fire ( we don’t have central heating here)
And brushing all the mice droppings under the rugs.
Callistemon You are with Spangler he can clean the Gents
And you the Ladies lavs.
GG13 Continue scouting for wood for the bonfire.....but leave Thor here!
Anyone else.. help AGA man the ‘still’ we need fantastic proportions of poteen for Friday.
Well, what are you waiting for? Chop chop!

lemongrove Tue 03-Nov-20 09:55:33

Oh, and hands off our two Greek gods ( barmen) Achilles and Gloopy, also our Viking barman Thor.
You will meet The Admiral and The Captain soon enough
( their ship is nearly always in port!) also Steamy Stan from the Chinese laundry across the alley ( a good friend of The Argy) Tattoo Terence, and all the fire crew from the station down by the gasworks.
Every Friday night is Theme Nite complete with karaoke and cocktails, this week of course is Bonfire Nite.
Dress up, we favour glitter and fishnet stockings.?
We also favour as much fun and nonsense as we can get away with.

lemongrove Tue 03-Nov-20 09:57:48

Hmmmm, black peas? We should have had those on Goth Nite.
Wonder if Soop will make some haggis?

NotSpaghetti Tue 03-Nov-20 10:31:34

What about the parkin? Do we have an oven? If not I'll move the logs and use the woodburner on the barge. That should get things toasty...

NotSpaghetti Tue 03-Nov-20 10:32:24

And some vinegar please! Yum yum.

AGAA4 Tue 03-Nov-20 15:45:57

Gallons of poteen brewed now. Thor and I have been at it for days. The Captain has been 'helping' by test tasting and is now blotto in a corner.
I hope Spangler realises the danger he is in at the Argy with all these brazen hussies lovely staff. I will give him a broom to fend them off.
mancgirl and Notspaghetti are bringing real food. A novelty at the Argy. I well remember Lemon's Mice on Sticks. She didn't even cook them.

You are with Spangler he can clean the Gents.

Scrubbing away in this stinky loo I got a beautiful text from my wife, it read:
"If you are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smile. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you".

So I texted back: "I'm in the toilet, please advise."

mancgirl Tue 03-Nov-20 22:35:11

Not wild about my given jobs but maybe it won't be so bad if I am working with Achilles, the Greek god, in the cellar ?. Can't have black peas without vinegar Spaghetti

mancgirl Tue 03-Nov-20 22:36:58

Spangler ??

lemongrove Wed 04-Nov-20 08:02:23

That’s an easy one Spangler.......some loo rolls! They will soon be in short supply again, mind you I shall take it out of your wages ( 3/6d) if I find any missing. You have missed two cobwebs in the Gents by the way and not replaced the soaps.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 04-Nov-20 08:14:46

I have left some tables and chairs by the wood pile should be ok for the bonfire, they were outside a posh place so loaded them into the back of the passion wagon work van.

I have left the cutlery on the bar, which for some strange reason had been left on the tables confused.

On second thoughts it might have been outside restaurant seating........don’t tell the rozzers!!!!

What a meanie, you wouldn't leave an old man in the proverbial, would you? How much? Three & six! Here's your money, but I am going to keep The Green Shield Stamps.

lemongrove Wed 04-Nov-20 12:29:32

What you have to take into account ( wages wise) is that you get free drinks ( poteen or anything that AGA brews in the cellar) and snacks ( anything that I throw together in the kitchen) not to mention good fellowship and support!
In fact, I think I am paying too much really and may have to reduce your wages to two shillings.

lemongrove Wed 04-Nov-20 12:31:45

Wow GG well done, that’s a huge pile of wood for the bonfire, although I have swapped the chairs you pinched for the ones in the bar and put the new ones for our customers to use.Now....can you go back and get the tables?

lemongrove Wed 04-Nov-20 12:34:23

Thought I would get cracking on making some Parkin, I need black treacle.....I did find a tin of golden syrup at the back of the cupboard which has gone black ( the date on the tin says
1961) so I suppose I could use it, whaddya think?
