I have received an enquiry from America asking me to explain why we Brits dislike Trump so much.
I have a list, quite a long list, but wondered if any gransnetters might like to add to it today.

I was thinking of another Keating and another member of the RF but thought it might take us off piste if I mentioned that relationship.

LauraNorder Sun 08-Nov-20 19:54:15

Sorry Callistemon thought it had been taken seriously cos of Keating comment. Should have known better coming from you.

He touched our Queen, attempt at light humour. Serious point under re democracy

That is why I said "How very dare he!"

I’m sure you’ll find something......

Yup! It keeps us in our toes.

He touched our Queen. How very dare he!!
So did Keating.

LauraNorder Sun 08-Nov-20 18:09:47

He touched our Queen.

People living in dictatorships look to democratic countries with hope for a better future and will fight hard for it. Trump has set that back a hundred years.

Kandinsky

Crickey, what will you lot have to moan about once Trump is a distant memory and Brexit is done and dusted?

I’m sure you’ll find something......

Do you never “moan” about anything ?

PollyDolly Sun 08-Nov-20 16:55:03

Those lips..............that face............that hair...............ARRRRGGGGHHHHH! All that in addition to being a sleazy, lecherious, racist bully who owes millions of dollars! What more can I say?

M0nica Sun 08-Nov-20 16:51:44

GillT57 I am absolutely in agreement with you.

GillT57 Sun 08-Nov-20 16:49:38

Yes you are right Kandisnky. I have never divorced my DH before, and although everything is fine, I have never left him before so have nothing to compare. Worth a punt? Maybe take a few of the family with me and leave him isolated? What can possibly go wrong.

Kandinsky Sun 08-Nov-20 16:30:02

Brexit could be a success - no one can say it won’t as we’ve never left before so nothing to compare.

varian Sun 08-Nov-20 16:20:33

Trump got a lot of votes, but I think he is the only president who lost the popular vote twice.

varian Sun 08-Nov-20 16:18:34

At least they've been able to get shot of Trump. It will be some time before we get a chance to sack our right-wing populist shower, and even then we cannot repair the damage of brexit.

Ohhhhhh, lets see...

Boris
Cummings
Rees Mogg

All equally incompetent and corrupt..

I know why the British, including me, don’t like Trump. What I’d like to know is why so many Americans do like Trump. I find it baffling.

GillT57 Sun 08-Nov-20 11:53:46

Trump may have attempted to start a political dynasty, but his sons haven't got a chance, even with the name. If they weren't his sons, they would be sweeping floors in a Walmart somewhere. His daughters are far smarter, Tiffany especially as she has distanced herself from her Father's politics. Ivanka is smart, but is likely to be embroiled in her Father's and her husband's court cases for years as their world of bullying, corruption and lies comes tumbling around their ears. When I see and hear this dreadful family, I remember what an old work colleague ( an American) said to me about another 'He needs to take care just who he craps on the way up because they will be waiting for him on the way down'. I would think that many people are rapidly distancing themselves from the noxious Trump family and many others are getting ready to sort their grievances in court.

One reason I think we Brits don't like Trump is because he fades in comparison with Obama. I watched the eulogy he gave at the funeral of Shimon Peres. It was literate and dignified, spoken from the heart (I think) and without notes. I remembered this when Trump was elected POTUS a few months later.

Trump started his presidency as he meant to go on - lying about the numbers of people who turned out to greet him (between 300,000 and 600,000) which he stated was the largest number ever. Compared with 1.8 million (estimated) for Obama.

MaizieD Sun 08-Nov-20 11:32:49

Donald Trump won more than 70 million votes, the second highest total in American history

So what?

Biden has at least 5 million more than that. Which, I presume, makes him the person with the highest total?

Kandinsky Sun 08-Nov-20 11:28:41

Exactly Dinahmo

Donald Trump won more than 70 million votes, the second highest total in American history

From a BBC news report.

Trump may never be president again ( my personal view is he’s too old. & so is Biden )
But what he stands for millions of Americans love.

Hetty58 Sun 08-Nov-20 11:27:09

'Why don't Brits like Trump?' He's obnoxious, embarrassing, clown-like, ignorant, incompetent etc. - need I go on?

In fact, I really cringe whenever that face appears on my TV, but, yippee, not for too much longer now!

Trump is now an irrelevance

Unfortunately he isn't an irrelevance. He will be around preparing his daughter for the next election in 4 years time.
Given the number of votes he gained in this election his support is not going to disappear during the next 4 years.

Kandinsky - I think Brexit is the gift that will keep on giving for a l.o.n.g time yet!

Gwenisgreat1 Sun 08-Nov-20 11:09:55

Basically Trump resembled an overgrown spoilt toddler prone to tantrums and cannot be reasoned with
