Hi

The South East Division of the Salvation Army are working hard to help the lorry drivers who are stuck in Kent. You can read about what they are doing and how you can help in the link below.

As are the Sikh community from the Guru Nanak Darbar temple in Gravesend, Kent.

Lovely to see communities pulling together.

I am so relieved to know this. It did occur to me that maybe the Salvation Army were helping but BBC news hadn't said so. I always donate to the Salvation Army so I'm chuffed to know my donations have helped at this frustrating time. I've been quite concerned about the welfare of the lorry drivers. Thank you for the update.

I've happily contributed to both of these groups of people who just quietly get on with helping people whenever and where ever help is needed.

The Sikh community have been wonderful, their chickpea curries looked delicious. I believe it's part of their ethos to feed those in need, I'm sure the lorry drivers were pleased to have a nice hot meal.

France has sent over 26 firemen/paramedics with 10,000 Covid tests.

Oh good.
I hope more of them can get home soon.

Terribull I watched a programme by Michael Palin, (Himalaya, I think) when he visited the Golden Temple at Amritsa where their kitchens feed thousands of people every day. It is just amazing.

Local people have also been collecting food and toiletries going door to door in nearby villages. They’ve climbed down to the motorway or lowered baskets from the bridges. Lidl and Aldi and one of the local councils have also been supplying whatever is needed.

Our DIL is Sikh and feeding people is very much part of their culture. Anyone going to the temple is always given a meal. A couple of winters ago when there was deep snow, my DIL and the GC were out with a children's wheelbarrow full of snacks and drinks helping motorists who were stranded on the A road near them.

Done and here’s hoping you all get home soon!

Artaylar Thu 24-Dec-20 17:38:05

This is such a great response, and fantastic also to read about the invaluable help being given by Sikh communities and local people.

Its beginning to feel a bit like Christmas....hums.....Thanks all and hope you all have a lovely Christmas Day tomorrow whereever you are and whomever you may be with. Special Christmas wishes to those of you who, for whatever reason, may be spending Christmas alone. xx

BBbevan Thu 24-Dec-20 17:45:47

All Sikh communities are excellent .

TerriBull Thu 24-Dec-20 18:02:41

Yes I've read about that Callistemon, I think as religions go they are impressive.
