When doing the thread about gigs, I got to thinking of all the comedians I've seen live. Not many but these are them
:
Rob Brydon (heard nearly all the material before on TV shows)
Jasper Carrott
French and Saunders
Mark Watson
Jack Whitehall
Sarah Millican
Miranda Hart
But the one that outshines them all was Victoria Wood. Saw her twice and sadly miss her.

One I would love to see is Billy Connolly and a stage performance of The Goons.

Who've you seen or would love/loved to have seen?

Jasper Carrott’s mole sketch remains one of the funniest things I’ve ever encountered. I first heard it on the radio when I had a big mole problem. Also the English food sketch from ‘Goodness Gracious Me’.

Billy Connolly was great when he was younger but the last time I went to see him he was actually really boring.

The best comedians I've seen live are Billy Connolly, way back when, and Stephen K Amos, a couple of years ago.

Jasper Carrot saw him couple of years ago he was fantastic fresh subjects and really down to earth.

I was lucky and saw Billy Connolly in his prime. Very very funny.
The other live stand up was Spike Milligan. He was excellent.
In a slightly different vein we loved an evening with the 'Dear Ladies' - Dr Evadne Hinge and Dame Hilda Brackett'.

A lot of you Gransnetters have me in stitches.
Michael Mcintyre.
Jasper Carrot.
Les Dawson.
Donald Trump,his hair is hilarious.

I love seeing live comedians, and have seen quite few in my time. Marking the ones I’ve seen out of 10, in order I’d go for:
John Bishop
Bill Bailey
Jo Brand
Jasper Carrott
Max Boyce
Shappi Khorsandi

I saw Billy Connolly about 40 years ago, but it was exactly a week after I’d seen Jasper Carrott for the first time, and I found him much funnier. Next on my list when we are free again is Lee Mack, I find him very funny on TV.

Saw David Baddiel live in March 2020, the week before the world changed, he was brilliant.

NotAGran55 Tue 16-Feb-21 14:52:53

Freddie Star
Jim Davidson
Jimmy Carr
Jason Manford was much better live than I expected
Jon Richardson
Tim Minchin
Alan Davies
Jo Brand ( twice ) once before she was famous
Victoria Wood ( twice ) absolutely hilarious
Stewart Francis on his Into The Punset Tour

Would love to see Lee Mack one day ...and would happily see Jo Brand again but none of the others .

Billy Connolly at Hammersmith Apollo about 30 years ago and Victoria Wood in Brighton about 20 years ago - they were both absolutely hilarious. I’d like to see Bill Bailey, such a lovely, clever and funny man.

lemsip Tue 16-Feb-21 15:25:43

Victoria Wood, hilariously funny songs.
Michael Mcintyre gentle humour saying it like it is.

I go on you tube and watch various 'bloopers' from american news shows. .

Sarnia Tue 16-Feb-21 15:34:32

I saw Billy Connolly about 25 years ago. He did a hilarious routine showing the different ways drunk men walk. I wondered if the 2 ladies sat on my left had wandered in by mistake because throughout the entire performance they didn't so much as smile, let alone laugh. Takes all sorts, I suppose.
Lee Evans. Hilarious observations on life. He must be exhausted after his performance. His suit jacket is drenched with sweat, or should I say, perspiration!

Billy Connolly twice, years ago, you need to record it as laughing so much you miss the next few minutes of the show. Recently goggle box.

Of those I’ve seen live, John Bishop was hilarious and you felt he was sitting on a bar stool chatting to you.
At a local comedy club level, Tom Wrigglesworth was lovely, funny and gentle, Johnny Awsom was similarly lovely and had a unique act, and Tom Binns was very funny and clever in three different personas. Shazia Mirza was also very good.
I find comedy on tv can be very unpleasant and generally coming from the same political bias so not very funny or balanced.

Years ago my daughter was in a pub and thought the landlord was doing an excellent comedy turn. Turned out it was Al Murray before he was well known as The Pub Landlord!

Trisha57 Tue 16-Feb-21 18:02:19

Jasper Carrott at the Woolwich Tramshed, supporting act for Jake Thackray in 1975. He was hilarious and more or less unknown in London. He brought out the single "Funky Moped" shortly afterwards. I subsequently saw him again at the Palladium. And I've seen Eddie Izzard live, although he was a little dot on the stage as we were so far up! Luckily there were screens so we could also see him in his full, wonderful glory!

WW010 Tue 16-Feb-21 18:05:23

I’m not sure if he works anywhere but South Yorkshire but Ivan Brackenbury is just SO funny. I was in tears. But, it’s very black humour. One of those you think ‘oh I shouldn’t be laughing at this’ while laughing lots. If you don’t know him he pretends to be a hospital DJ and does ‘requests’. It’s very inappropriate and VERY funny.
Have also seen Billy Connolly twice. Funny first time, not so much second. Also Eddie Izzard who wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. Sarah Millican was just too crude - and I’m no shrinking violet. Miranda Hart was brilliant and I’d expected to dislike her - went with DD.
THE most memorable was in a small comedy club where the comic took his trousers off, stuck a firework (Roman candle I think ?) up his rear and lit it!!! One of those where your mind says what am I seeing???!!!!

grandmajet Tue 16-Feb-21 18:08:20

Yes WW010, Tom Binns is Ivan Brackenbury in one of his personas. I agree with all you said. I shouldn’t laugh but he’s just so funny!

grandmajet Tue 16-Feb-21 18:09:54

Did you see him at a Funhouse Comedy Club? Spikey Mike lives in our little town.

WW010 Tue 16-Feb-21 18:13:39

grandmajet no I saw him at The Lescar in Sheffield. It has a ‘concert room’ around the back.

Mollygo Tue 16-Feb-21 18:33:42

Victoria Wood, both live and on TV.
Michael McIntyre-especially the no juice sketch.
Jasper Carrott-someone has already mentioned the mole sketch but we had to turn the car radio off once because we laughed so much it was dangerous!
Jo Brand-just like her sense of humour.
Billy Connolly -the big slipper and the incontinence pants sketch.
There are others but these are my favourites.
