Where do you keep your shoes?

We used to keep ours on a shoe rack by the front door. However, they invariably ended up just scattered around the floor near the rack and not actually on it! This resulted in the hallway looking really untidy. We have now decorated and the rack and shoes have gone, making the hallway look much bigger. The problem now is where to store said shoes, boots, wellies etc. DH has about 15 pairs of trainers which makes this problem worse! Our house is average size, but we don't have lots of storage space.

Most are in the wardrobe on a shoe stand but my rubber boots are outside the back door.

In the wardrobe. Possibly some people might think they don't get aired but it isn't something I worry about.

My ‘good’ shoes are in boxes in the bottom of my wardrobe. Everyday shoes, trainers, etc, are in my cupboard under the stairs. Wellies are in the boot of my car.

We use the under stairs area. We had a local joiner create a shoe storage drawer and a jacket hanging area that roll out on casters. That's for the stuff we wear regularly, the rest of them are in boxes under the bed.

Shoes and boots are in the bottom of my wardrobe. Wellies are in the shed and slippers by my bed

2 pairs of shoes (mine) in the hall, where I swap them for my slippers. The rest (please don't ask how many, as I don't want to have to count them) are in the bottom of the wardrobe, mostly in boxes, but I also have a 16 pair shoe rack. Hubby's shoes? in our bedroom, NEAR the wardrobe!

Mine are neatly in my bedroom.... My Husband's are wherever he kicks them off angry

Most of mine are in clear plastic boot boxes on top of/beside my wardrobe. Boots in the bottom of my wardrobe. Trainers are under my wardrobe, I have 7 pairs, 1 pair are waterproof & 1 pair of pretty ones with flowers on them, I can only wear trainers most of the time due to foot problems so I'm always looking for different ones, I want some sparkly ones grin.

I don't wear slippers only toe-post sandals indoors & for nipping out to the bins etc. I have a few pairs of summer sandals a well. My home is small so finding suitable storage is necessary but there's only me so he odd pair of trainers by the door is fine, Can't wear wellies so no problem there.

I like to wear different trainers rather than the same pair constantly. High heels are a distant dream but I still have a few pairs stored waysmile

Reading this I have sprung into action and gone through the shoes in my wardrobe. Four pairs are now bagged up for recycling.
We are downsizing this week and I think that underbed shoe storage is a great idea. Our hallway will be tiny, so I'm hoping there's room in the understair cupboard for garden shoes.

On a shelf at the bottom of my wardrobe.

My garden muddies are on the door mat by the door to the garden,,I wear my slippers around the house and other shoes and boots are stored in the wardrobe. Some are on the floor at the bottom and some in a hanging shoe holder. DH is the same. Garden shoes by the door and everything else in his wardrobe.

I love this idea.

Oh golly. I hate these tidiness related questions, but as they say confession is good for the soul (or sole in this case!?‍♀️?). My summer sandals and virtually never worn posher shoes are slung in the bottom of the wardrobe somewhere. The ones I wear tend to be scattered all over, depending upon where I took them off. The only ones with a proper place are my Aldi "crocs" which are by the back door ready for whenever I step outside as I rarely have anything on my feet inside. I have no idea where my wellies are. They are either under the stairs or in the garage. My DH will know as he has to check them for spiders before I will put them on.

Every day shoes on a shoe rack in understairs cupboard with coats.
Decent shoes, in their boxes upstairs in spare room wardrobe.
Wellies in garage
Nipping outside for garden, and dustbins etc, scruffy moccasins by the garden doors.

moggie57 Sun 07-Mar-21 15:26:59

Ditto on my feet.but usually by the front door

H1954 Sun 07-Mar-21 15:18:20

Wellies in the utility, best shoes in the wardrobe, everyday footwear on the shoe rack in the porch.

I have a shoe cupboard with a mirrored door. I needed a place to keep shoes and a full length mirror and that was the solution! Boots in wardrobe and sandals in attic until spring.

Not having a hallway, my front door opens into my lounge.
Therefore, I have no option but to take of and leave shoes by the front door inside the lounge.
I would love to have a porch or hallway, somewhere specific to take shoes of and leave them out of sight.

As for the idea of storing shoes in wardrobes.
They must be a bit grubby and possibly smelly.
Not something I would do to be honest,

4allweknow Sun 07-Mar-21 14:50:51

grannyrebel7 Do you have a door you can use. My DiL is a fitness trainer and has masses of trainers all stored on a shoe hanger on the back of a cupboard door out of sight. For me regular usefoutwear goes on a shoe rack in the garage accessed from hall. The occasionally worn ones are on a rack bottom of a wardrobe and on a shelf too.

I bought loads of clear plastic boxes from Lidl and use them for my shoes which are at the bottom of my wardrobe. I’ve got smelly feet to start with and at one stage kept them in open stackable towers from Costco in the spare bedroom. Unfortunately the smell was so overpowering I decided to change to the lidded boxes. And I put all of our coats/jackets into our wardrobes so they’re not cluttering our home up. We’re in a bungalow so don’t have to traipse upstairs for anything.

NotAGran55 Sun 07-Mar-21 14:00:57

The daily shoes are in the cupboard in the hall along with the daily coats etc out of sight.

Wellies and muddy stuff is in the garage .

Everything else is in wardrobes in each bedroom.

We have a specially made cupboard under the stairs, and a hanging canvas shoe rack inside the broom cupboard in the hall.

We still find stray pairs of trainers about though.

Gwenisgreat1 Sun 07-Mar-21 13:41:41

Out of season shoes are either under the bed or in the wardrobe. I have a small rack under my dressing table for current shoes (and slippers). DH (who thinks he is the tidier monster) keeps his under the bed, on the bedroom floor, in the middle of the floor and taking up all the floor in our tiny porch.

Yearoff Sun 07-Mar-21 13:30:59

Decent shoes - in boxes . Current ones upstairs - summer ones in drawers in new house.

Everyday (which tend to get very mucky at the moment) are on a my homemade rack by the door. These consist of wellies, welly boots, walking boots and one pair of shopping boots and old trainers I use for nipping out to the log store and bathroom. MrM's various boots are there are well. His main ones are his Rigger Boots. His sandals lurk in the corner (he uses them as slippers).

You go out to the bathroom?

Elvis58 Sun 07-Mar-21 13:22:14
