Hello all!

Further to the rather pointless ‘Hello from GNHQ’ thread, in which we suggested and asked for several things, but nothing was actually addressed.

One particular concern was Iam64’s continuing inability to post.

I wondered aloud on the aforementioned thread whether we should have a ‘Day of Direct Action’, and all email the management about this
([email protected])

What do you all think?
Any ideas, suggestions, anything?
Thank you smile

One of the rudest (to my mind) has disappeared.
I remember her saying, quite poignantly, that she wished that she could ‘start again’, meaning that she was aware that she’d gone over the top, and was stuck with that persona.
It would be nice if she did come back, and start again afresh

BlueBelle Sun 05-Sep-21 11:41:13

I m definitely in, I think life time bans….. unless it’s someone constantly trolling or hurling racist or homophobic or some other kind of abuse, is a complete Nono it’s draconian and abusive I didn’t know EV had a lifetime ban does anyone know what she is supposed to have done ?
I think it’s a good idea …are we having a particular time frame to bombard ? Say between 9 and 11 or just randomly throughout the day
If that doesn’t work we all need to decide on one day with us all posting nothing ….a postal strike ? !

FannyCornforth Sun 05-Sep-21 11:51:15

Thanks BlueBelle good idea, we’ll see what others say.

I was thinking about a ‘postal strike’ (brilliant phrase!) yesterday.
It would be very interesting to see what would happen

toscalily Sun 05-Sep-21 11:56:32

It would perhaps get the point (or points) across that a lot of us are getting a bit fed up with being ignored. But, a "postal strike" might be difficult as some people only come on GN for the games or competitions and rarely if at all open up general threads so would be posting as normal.

I'll join in for IAM64. She's been away far too long.

That's a shame. Whoever she was, there should be a way back if people realise that they've gone too far.

I'm sure that all of us have said or done things in life that we regret, and it's a cruel system that doesn't allow people to make amends.

I’m in.
Wasn’t EV’s ban concerning the altercation with an accessory?

No, EV was posting long after FH had been given their marching orders

DiscoDancer1975 Sun 05-Sep-21 12:11:24

Curioser and curioser. There’s only one poster I’d like to see gone. Absolutely no one else sticks in my mind at all. Certainly not the posters mentioned in this thread. Who is/ was FH?

nanna8 Sun 05-Sep-21 12:17:01

The one poster I didn’t think much of has disappeared, thankfully but I can’t remember anything nasty from EV. If it is a one off thing it seems very harsh to ban them forever.

Smileless2012 Sun 05-Sep-21 12:21:34

You can count on me Fanny I'll email GNHQ tomorrow. Well done, it's a brilliant idea.

Redhead56 Sun 05-Sep-21 12:59:54

I don’t know or understand why certain posters have been banned. We are adults a simple caution should suffice unless someone is offensive.
It’s unfair that recently a lovely lady poster who has serious health issues but still brightened our days with her posts. Has felt the need to stop posting anymore she is missed already by many on here. She was receiving unnecessary remarks and messages. Is it fair that such messages are not moderated?
Fairness surely should be the main aim to keep this a pleasant sight to post on.

Charleygirl5 Sun 05-Sep-21 13:06:14

I had a run in with FH and I was banned for 2 weeks but I was not alone- there were at least 4 of us. I am on the norty step for life- if I put a foot wrong ever I will be banished to the hills. I think it to be so unfair because prisoners who are good get a reprieve but somebody as nasty and rude as myself is on a permanent cliffhanger.

dragonfly46 Sun 05-Sep-21 13:15:18

It is quite incredible that anybody on this site of mature adults should be on the 'norty step' for life Charleygirl.

As Redhead said there are some on the site who are so underhand they get away with gross unpleasantness.

When we email we must also mention that no-one should have a threat of a ban hanging over them.
It is extremely childish.

nanna8 Sun 05-Sep-21 13:28:08

I wouldn’t mind so much if it was the mods/owners who decided but I think it is unpleasant that someone with a chip on their shoulder can report someone just because they take offence to a particular comment. Reporting posts seems very arbitrary. These particular online forums are very pleasant and certainly not nearly as aggressive and slanderous as others I have experienced and I hope it stays that way.

Grandmajean Sun 05-Sep-21 13:28:49

I am happy to support but don't know the banned posters. What do I say ?

Callistemon Sun 05-Sep-21 13:34:56

Iam64 has not been banned, Grandmajean, I think she has just had technical difficulties and can't get into GN for some reason.
She is a very sensible, reasoned poster and her views are missed.

I have no idea why EllanVannin was banned, if she was and it's very sad if she is an older, vulnerable poster.

Lillie Sun 05-Sep-21 13:39:29

all very curious and a lot must have passed me by because i don't recognise one of the missing names mentioned.

was this due to heated comments over vaccinations i wonder

as other posters have also expressed bewilderment, would it be possible tomorrow fanny to have a tiny explanation about individual situations when you address gn so we know what you are talking about?

i support you in wanting to reconsider unfair lifetime bans.

sending upsetting private messages sounds horrible.

SueDonim Sun 05-Sep-21 13:57:19

I’m another who would need to be told what to say as I’m not familiar with all that’s gone on. blush

I think a lifetime ban for regulars who’ve not been racist etc sounds OTT. Even murderers get a second chance, for heavens sake.

FannyCornforth Sun 05-Sep-21 14:02:28

Hello Lillie
I don’t really want to take ‘ownership’ of this, as it were.
The idea came simply from the ‘Hello from HQ’ thread. It has really annoyed me and others.

I’ve got loads to do at home, but keep popping back (as you do!)
I’ll be back later with some further thoughts.

But basically, just tell them your thoughts and make sure that you get some sort of reply.

They should give us a little respect and credit by actually communicating with us, their customers, and more importantly their actual, product.

FannyCornforth Sun 05-Sep-21 14:03:51

I don’t know anything more other than what I have said about EV, so I can’t comment further on that.

Smileless2012 Sun 05-Sep-21 14:03:57

This thread isn't about re instating banned posters or campaigning for no one to be banned in the future. It's about the technical Iam64 has been having for ages which she means she can't post.

I think we need to keep our focus on Iam64 as far as tomorrow's 'Gransnet Day of Action' is concerned. She's a well respected, thoughtful and caring poster whose contributions to GN are sorely missed.

Charleygirl5 Sun 05-Sep-21 14:04:43

Ah but SueDonim you are not as rude and nasty and I am!!!!!

Lillie Sun 05-Sep-21 14:10:26

thanks fanny

Galaxy Sun 05-Sep-21 14:11:11

Yes I would completely agree smileless, I certainly wouldnt be asking for a reinstatement of a poster if I didnt know what had happened.
