I saw a little girl almost hysterical with excitement last year, because they were going to put their Christmas tree up when they got home.
Her mum looked a bit sheepish, but said "How could we resist?"
It was quite touching, seeing the dad humming christmas songs, with the tree tucked under his arm, and the little girl jumping up and down with glee. smile

Oh I know. Three of our grandchildren live here, last year they kept on and on to put the trees up, I said there was absolutely no way I was putting trees up in November!
Guess when the trees went up.

It is a silly thing for me to get het up about, I've decided, so I'm not going to anymore.
It's a bit like people putting tomato sauce on a roast dinner. Hard to accept!

Christmas means different things to different people

For some people it is a happy time of year A reason to be happy and look forward to happy times

For some people it means being reminded that you have no family to speak of

So you see we all have our own experience and own opinion of Christmas and I guess we would do well to accept that

My youngest as a small boy had tomato ketchup on everything he ate. Never ever had I imagined the sauce bottle on my Christmas Day dinner table, but I had to accept it ?

Today I have booked tickets to a Christmas lunch and musical show at our town's recently refurbished assembly rooms at the end of November. In two months time I'll be glad I did!

I’m not keen on Christmas really, I’m exhausted by the time it gets here, despite my best efforts I spend too much, we only have a few days off, and with the children going backwards and forward to other family, it’s all a bit disjointed.
So, I try and focus on the bits I like, which are making the house festive, doing things with the children, eating chocolate, carols, but my goodness, I’m relieved when it’s over.

I loathe it!
I'm working on that, but suspect I always will.
I think it is because it starts so early and is so ridiculously expensive for a lot of people.
It feels like some sort of experiment in pack behaviour.

I think social media has put it into overdrive, we only had the pressure of the TV ads, now it’s coming at young parents from every direction.
I imagine a lot of lesser off families feel they’ve failed, before they’ve started.
Hence the loans and credit cards.

Ooh, for the golden days.
A lovely roast, followed by mince pie or christmas pud with cream or custard.
All washed up and almost back to normal. smile

If I put my decorations up in Nov I'd be sick of the sight I'd them by Christmas.
When I was a child most people put them up in the week or so before Christmas. By Christmas day everyone had reached a nice level of excitement, and the days after Christmas were spent visiting relatives, going to the pantomime and/or cinema and spending your book vouchers once the shops opened up. Then, on 6th January, the decorations came down and life went settled back to normal.

Nowadays there seems to be months of hype and preparation, people exhausted by Christmas week and a terrible sense of anti climax afterwards.

Times change, but I preferred the older style Christmas.
