Room 101

I m sure this has been done before but hey ho let’s do it again
What’s your Room 101?
I have a great hatred for squeezy bottles of things (tomato sauce/ mayonnaise etc) at the moment I am fighting with the latter it will not drip down but all sits ‘up in the bottom’
So the ‘thing’ is sitting upside down (as it’s made to) but the mayonnaise is sitting in the bottom which is on the top
Get your head round that
So I have to take the top off ( which is at the bottom) try and squeeze the stuff down or keep the top on and bang it or get the knife out to scrape it but then you can’t get in the corners and miss half of it
Grrrrrrr
How about you ?

Not rude FannyC - straightforward, often very funny and generous.

Bluebelle I know exactly what you mean and describe about those squeezy bottles. I never normally use them but did buy a mayonnaise one for a picnic. It acted exactly like you described when it came back home with me. However, I purchased some long, thin flexible spoon type things that I could poke into this container and get to the stuff left at the top (bottom). These are also great for using in jam/marmalade jars, etc.

I do remember the Room 101 of Orwellian 1984 and always knew that (with me) it would be spiders. Do think I would have said anything they wanted me to say, if I was threatened with a room of these.

Knitting patterns that require an i-cord - why can't I get the hang of such an apparently simple thing?!!
(Guess what I was doing yesterday!!)

Hoax callers and fraudsters of all kinds scare me because they are so clever and manipulative. I would dearly like to consign them all to a permanently locked room, 101 TV programme style.

Blossoming Fri 05-Aug-22 10:14:45

In the spirit of both Orwell’s room 101 and the TV programme of that name, I would put wasps in room 101. I’m allergic to the little b******s and they have made many a sunny August unbearable for me.

Sticky labels that don't come off..
Cards, books, flowers anything you want to give as a gift and the thing is stuck on with glue that would hold up a elephant... what's wrong with a bar code.

Arguments

Can we please chuck in arguments

It takes at least 2 people to have an argument and even if the subject matter is really important to someone, people who just like a good argument will find a way to bring it down to their level.

Or just people who think their superior point of view mens they don't have to listen or understand anyone else

Throw them all in

World would be a better place

The word “unprecedented” - bandied about all the time theses days.

Spiders

ShazzaKanazza Fri 05-Aug-22 11:49:29

I’d like to throw in Room 101 my best friends mobile phone because she’s always on it looking at Facebook and in advance people who are prepared to go out of their way to report their neighbours for using a hosepipe.

Blossoming my DH is allergic to wasps so I agree with you. I had to surround us with citronella so we could enjoy a drink in the garden the other night.

Companies who make you press button a,b,c,d,e,f and g before telling you they are experiencing a high volume of calls at the moment and you are number x in the queue.

Another Tory government especially with Truss in charge.

I don't think Fanny Cornforth was rude at all, just intelligent

Gabrielle56 Sun 07-Aug-22 11:27:04

FannyCornforth

Sorry to be a pedantic bore, BlueBelle but the misuse of the term Room 101 really gets on my goat!
Orwell’s Room 101 contained what you were most scared of.
In Winston Smith’s case it was rats.

And that's the truthththth! Let's open up that unused ROOM 202 eh!?
My contribution, snobs! Oh and dental floss that isn't! It gets jammed between the peggies and you need another tool to extract it!! Grrrr!

Alioop Sun 07-Aug-22 11:31:24

Any bottles that you have to squeeze the lids in at the sides and then push down to open, like some bleach bottles, Toilet Duck bottles, etc. I know it's so children can't open them, but I'm 56 years old and can't open the darn things either.

mrswoo Sun 07-Aug-22 11:39:09

I have a fear of metal coat hangers- sounds daft I know but I swear they reproduce in my wardrobe. They then get all tangled up and become impossible to separate.I honestly hate them!

Milest0ne Sun 07-Aug-22 11:43:00

I have turned into a grumpy old woman as so many things irritate me.
1. Lazy misuse of the English language. eshpeshally links on the TV. Don't yah fink?
Long live regional accents for our own regions
2 The person who does not live on our road and brings his rubbish to our bins. Yesterday a large black bag was put in the paper bin which says on top "Paper and cardboard only. No plastic bags" The council then puts a notice on the bin saying pay £75 for a special collection.
3 The booze shops which put tables and chairs blocking the pavement and on the road in parking bays.
(Yes there is occasionally a dry day to sit out in the north)

sundowngirl Sun 07-Aug-22 11:45:27

Child proof lids - why can't we buy bottles with senior friendly lids?
Wokery
Littering
The idea that there are over a hundred different genders currently being being taught in schools - stop indoctrinating our children!
The protesting idiots that block the roads/airports etc who stop the rest of us getting on with our lives
Companies still using Covid as an excuse for poor service
Spiders!

pascal30 Sun 07-Aug-22 11:46:33

Alioop... I have an amazing tool, from any hardware shop, which helps open all those bottles. really recommend getting one

GrammaH Sun 07-Aug-22 11:47:45

Plastic dummies /comforters, I can't bear them. Also small children with earrings.

DaisyL Sun 07-Aug-22 11:54:06

Can I put in plumbers (or other workmen) who don't turn up!!! Say they will be with yon on Tuesday morning, you wait in all day, then ting the next day and it turns out they forgot/were on another big job/had Covid. You make another date - same thing! Plumber number one was delayed by another job and then too busy, found another one who then broke his wrist, went back to plumber number one who came and said he need some other equipment - went away and got Covid and went to Australia when he recovered but passed me on to another one who made a time and then forgot! I think I may be on some secret plumbers' blacklist! Sorry - ranting here but the frustration of a dripping tap at the moment is terrible.
