I had my 4th shot yesterday evening. Unlike the last one, I don't feel tired or ill but the injection site is very hot and my upper arm and shoulder feel as though I've been hit by a train.

Was in 2 minds but have just booked it and the flu jab.

I had my second booster last week. I’m so grateful for the opportunity. My arm was very sore for 2 days but otherwise no problems. Some immunisations eg measles are designed to protect you for life. Others such as the covid vaccination are designed to give you protection against serious illness. They need topping up.

When I was at the GPs the other day the practice nurse said she is dreading the winter because so many older people are saying they are not bothering with the booster vaccine!
Madness, and selfishness I think, because although we do have free choice, unless there is a medical reason for refusing health workers will have to bear the consequences.

Further to my earlier post I went for my covid booster and was offered a flu jab at the same time. I accepted, so I've had a double whammy!

I had my 6th jab yesterday and for the first time I feel a bit groggy. Had a bad night, with flu like symptoms, stayed in bed, and today they are starting to wear off,

The vax my dh had was moderna spikevax which according to the information sheet is subject to additional monitoring.
He has not had a problem with his other 4 jabs.
Has anyone else had this vaccination and had after effects.
He still doesn’t feel right 3 days later.

I had my 6th vax last Friday afternoon ( 2x AZ, Pfizer, 2xModerna ) . I'm 80 , CEV with RA . I have had reactions to all vax so far , Moderna being the worst and last year I had a reaction to the 'flu vax for the first time .
This time it was the Moderna bivalent , Spikevax . I felt it going in , as my husband did with his . Friday , afternoon , evening and night were fine . Then Saturday morning I felt really rough and my RA started to flare . I was poorly for the rest of the day and told anyone who would listen that this was my last , ever vax . Passed a rough night , felt washed out Sunday morning then gradually got better over the afternoon. Husband felt a bit tired but OK otherwise . Oddly my arm didn't hurt .
I'll now book my 'flu for later in October. I cancelled the "double whammy" booked for end of October as I thought , rightly or wrongly , I didn't want to have to feel doubly "yuck" .
I guess I'll have next year's vax if/when offered . Oh , and I haven't had covid . Yet !

I had the spikevax this morning so will soon know if I have any side effects. Reading the leaflet, it said a second dose to be given in 28 days but nothing was said about it. Does anyone know? I will have to ring the pharmacy.

silverlining48 Tue 20-Sep-22 17:08:46

My dh wasnt told about a second Vaccination Greenfinch.
Not sure if he woukd want one given he still feels unwell, though a bit better than yesterday.
Thats interesting that you had the spike vax as well Wedi.

silverlining48 Tue 20-Sep-22 17:10:57

Meant to say my dh arm doesnt hurt either, its his neck and shoulder aching and just generally not feeling well.

Greenfinch Tue 20-Sep-22 17:15:18

Thanks silverlining. I must have got it wrong.

Wedi Tue 20-Sep-22 17:23:19

Hi Greenfinch - I’ve just resurrected my Spikevax bivalent leaflet and read it again - all 8 sections .
Nowhere can I find any reference to having a second dose , anywhere .
Would you be able to point out the section where you read this. I’m intrigued . ( Not doubting you ! )

In India, a low wage country, they have to pay for the Covid jab.

Hello, silverlining48. We both had the Moderna ~Spikevax on Saturday afternoon. We both felt ill, aching all over and very tired, that night and also on Sunday but I was better by Monday. However, dh is till not well, aching and very tired, so I'm quite relieved to hear he is not the only one suffering. I suspect the difference between me and dh is that I took paracetamol every four hours and he would not. Let's hope both our dhs feel better soon!

NotTooOld Tue 20-Sep-22 17:42:17

PS I should add that we both had the flu jab at the same time.

Wedi Tue 20-Sep-22 17:57:23

NotTooOld - that was very brave . I cancelled my covid/flu vax because I knew , previously, I had suffered badly with the individual jabs .
Having suffered from painful RA for many years , I’m well versed in pain management and keeping on top of it with regular paracetamol. Sometimes it just doesn’t work for me .
I’m still grateful , though for all the help we’re given through the NHS and the work our scientists do with innovative drugs .

Biscuitmuncher Tue 20-Sep-22 17:57:33

mumofmadboys no I dont know anyone who's died of covid. I know plenty made ill by the vaccine though

Lathyrus Tue 20-Sep-22 18:34:09

You’re lucky, biscuitmuncher.

My family working in the NHS know over a thousand. And that’s just one town.

Sparklefizz Tue 20-Sep-22 18:35:52

I’m not blaming anything.
She tested positive too soon to have picked it up at the party.
Did she already have it when vaccinated or could it possibly be a rare occasion when the vaccine gave her Covid?

There is no live virus in the vaccine so the jab can't give you Covid.

Lathyrus Tue 20-Sep-22 18:38:38

Covid cases in Hospital will mean other treatments being cancelled.

If you’re in the group that’s decided not to have the vaccine don’t grumble when your hip or heart operation doesn’t happen. You’re the cause☹️

silverlining48 Tue 20-Sep-22 18:41:15

Thats interesting and thanks NotTooOld. Hope they both feel better soon.
Biscuitmuncher sadly we know of people who have died, dd a lot more as she works in the nhs, but know no one who died through the vaccine.

DH had his 4th yesterday, Spikevax, headache last night, feeling general flu like symptoms today and spent day on sofa. Got mine Saturday, plus sheet from local pharma to fill in and book flu jab. A lot of people don't seem to realise these effects are your immune system doing its job. My eldest daughters good friend of over 30 years, contracted Covid March 2020,was intubated, remaining severely unwell, has been on TV with Kate Garroway, yet she herself had 2 jabs,no booster,no flu jab,is a healthy 52 year old,got Covid a few months ago, couldn't even get upstairs , said she wasn't having anymore.

Normandygirl Tue 20-Sep-22 19:50:24

I suppose all the treatment now being given to the vaccine damaged don't impact on the service at all?
As of Aug 2022 there were 1, 259,000 cases of concern regarding the Pfizr /Biontech and Astra zenica vaccines.
As of Aug 2022 regarding the Spikevax there were 247, 645 cases of concern reported. This is a large number given the relatively low number of doses given.
Many of these are heart, blood clot and stroke related, requiring hospital treatment, many for the rest of their lives.
I have no problem at all with anyone who trusts and wants these vaccines, but can we please stop with all the attempted shaming of people who feel naturally cautious about putting a still unlicenced product into their own bodies.
Everyone should do what is right for them according to their own circumstances and previous experiences and not be heckled into conforming to your experience.
