What’s your favourite mondegreen?

We always have sung “Another one bites the duster” in the Queen song. Our son was convinced it was correct.

My sister always used to sing “And keep away for ever and ever..” to the Hallelujah chorus!

"Gladly, the cross-eyed bear" ?

The opera La Donna e mobile has an aria where it sounds as though he’s singing about elephants ears. I’ve heard it many times and I still think it sounds like elephants ears!

My favourite from my young grandson whilst watching Train my Dragon, he kept saying “wooden helpers”, it turned out it was “Woden help us.” We still have a chuckle with him about this.

At the end of the chorus of Hi Ho Silver Lining, my friend used to sing " But I won't make a fuss, blowing coffee dust". We couldn't convince her that the correct lyric was "But I won't make a fuss, though it's obvious"! x

And also Suedonim I can see Deirdre now Lorraine has gone.

My favourite is...

‘A wean in a manger’ ?

For those unfamiliar with Scots, a wean (pronounced wane) is a baby or child.

Thy bountiful mare, what tongue can recite
It breathes in the air;
it shines in the light;
it streams from the hills,
it descends to the plain,
and gently returns to its stable again.

Church choir used to sing this and see if the organist noticed!

My cousin recited this for years before someone corrected him:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed are the monkeys swimming...

(Should be ‘blessed art thou amongst women’)

I always thought Mary was full of grapes because we were blessing the fruit of her womb.
