I’m thinking of going cold turkey for a week. ( I don’t think anyone will say”Where’s Atqui?”), but I seem to be spending too much time checking posts and think , as someone on the book thread said , I should be reading a book or doing something productive.Does anyone else feel the same?

Grandmadinosaur Sat 27-Nov-21 20:23:18

Yes. Not just here though but online in general.

Sometimes Atqui I do stop and read my Kindle though, and I tend to post on the days I am not in work.
I just enjoy reading and posting on Gransnet, and when I dont I will stop.

Hell yes! Time when I should be working, hence cutting down on the amount of real free time I have.

Shinamae Sat 27-Nov-21 20:31:47

No, I am comfortable with the amount of time I spend on here..

Calistemon Sat 27-Nov-21 20:52:35

Yes.

I need to write Christmas cards, bake a cake, finish a blanket, do some decluttering ......

You name it, I need to do it.

Yes, so annoying!

I definitely spend far too much time on social media. I had a break for a month and I don't think it was long enough. It's very easy to become addicted.

Kandinsky Sat 27-Nov-21 20:58:20

I’m shocked at the amount of time some people spend on here, like literally posting on threads all day long.
I think it’s an addiction for quite a few.
I think I spend way too much time on here - about 2 hours a day maximum, sometimes a lot less, and some days I don’t log on at all. But I still think that’s a lot.

BlueSky Sat 27-Nov-21 21:05:01

No I enjoy social media, why stop if you like it? You don’t have to read a book or ‘do something productive’, unless you want to.

Atqui Sat 27-Nov-21 21:21:40

I suppose I feel I’m becoming addicted ! I enjoy drinking wine, but don’t want to have a drink problem!!

Urmstongran Sat 27-Nov-21 21:32:48

I took a sabbatical during the summer. When I came back in September I thought to myself I’ll limit my usage. Hmm. It’s creeping back up. My excuse at present is I’ve been confined to barracks for 10 days with a nasty viral infection.

When I joined GN, another poster told me it was addictive and I didn't know what she meant. I think I do now!
I dip in and out regularly, rather than for long periods at a time. I don't have the stamina, nor the inclination, to spend many hours on here but it is certainly my go to place as opposed to something like daytime TV.
I wonder how long you need to be away from GN to reduce your time on your return?

CafeAuLait Sat 27-Nov-21 22:13:41

No. I just pop in for short periods of time during the day, like over a cup of tea. Between doing things. I'm happy with that.

Calistemon Sat 27-Nov-21 22:22:05

When I say Yes I mean I pop in and out.

I've had breaks of weeks when I've been overseas as the internet is not good but we've been home so much more since Covid arrived.

Maggiemaybe Sat 27-Nov-21 22:37:55

Not really. But I set up screen time on my phone recently and was embarrassed to see just how much time I spent online overall. GN came out at about 20/30 minutes a day, which paled into insignificance against the time I spend on Safari, Facebook, BBC News…..

Sometimes you just disappear down the rabbit hole.

Calistemon Sat 27-Nov-21 23:21:48

I do multi-task ......

Atqui Sun 28-Nov-21 10:12:22

Josianne I suspect taking time out will not alter the amount of time spent when one returns - but might prove it
Can be done

Peasblossom Sun 28-Nov-21 10:21:34

You can time my meals and coffee by my posts?

Urmstongran Sun 28-Nov-21 10:27:34

I note there’s ‘no comment’ from the most prolific posters.

That is so funny you spotted that!

Calistemon Sun 28-Nov-21 10:31:17

Too much time on here is certainly not good for blood pressure!

henetha Sun 28-Nov-21 10:35:37

No. I'm comfortable with the amount of time sent on GN.
I don't think I overdo it. Just once a day for an hour or two.
