NHS staff NOT first in the queue for vaccine

NHS staff will no longer be among the first people to be vaccinated against Covid-19 after a rethink about who should be given priority.

Hospitals will instead begin by immunising care home staff, and inpatients and outpatients aged over 80. The change is likely to disappoint and worry health service staff, some of whom had already booked appointments to get immunised.

Frontline personnel were due to have the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine when the NHS starts rolling it out, probably next Tuesday, after the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency approved it on Wednesday.

I am glad you said that MOnica

If enough people falsely believe that any of the vaccines contain a live virus we are in serious trouble regarding the high take-up necessary to beat covid.

Maw, Yes, I heard the item on WH, and was going to recommend it, but I do not need to as you have done it already.

I would also add that the hospitals listed on the previous page are only centres for the start of the vaccination programme, where they have the facilities to store the vaccine in the extreme cold it requires

As more vaccines get approval that can be stored at room temperature or only in chilled conditions the intention is to have it administered in GP surgeries and other public buildings near large concentrations of population.

Well I am NHS staff and I had the 1st Vaccination last week.

My GD's other gran and her mum both got it last week ,as did the rest of the staff in the care home they own and run.Think its different in Scotland as I've seen a lot of local nrses and carers saying they had the vaccine on FB.The first minister said on TV there was no issue with supplies .

Casdon Sun 27-Dec-20 00:32:33

It’s not different in Scotland in terms of supply paddyanne, the allocation is UK wide and based on population. However, each nation has chosen a different order of the groups to receive the vaccine. I’m in Wales, and here key workers have received it first,
The second Pfizer allocation to the UK has now been received, so all areas have more vaccine to administer.

growstuff Sun 27-Dec-20 00:40:56

Casdon How many doses are in the second allocation? I still can't find any details about it online.

growstuff Sun 27-Dec-20 01:03:22

Was Jeremy Hunt lying just a few days ago when he said the country would run out of the Pfizer vaccine?

Everything seems to have gone very quiet about supply of more doses.

Casdon Sun 27-Dec-20 07:55:12

I saw it on Wales Online (news), Northern Ireland had confirmed they had received a second allocation of 500,000 doses, which based on population had been calculated for Wales as 800,000 doses, so the same amount as the original allocation.

Casdon Sun 27-Dec-20 07:59:25

Sorry just realised I’d put an extra 0 on, it should be 50,000 and 80,000 not 800,000!

Brother who is a firefighter got a call on shift from local surgery , just turned 6 said if you can get your crew here in next half an hour can all have the jab
They were quick to take advantage and were told if you had y if come it would had to of been destroyed!
My thanks to the nurse that stayed on duty to administer it

That is what I’m thinking?

The other puzzle is that I read that the Oxford vaccine was going to be delayed for a few months because of the error in dosage snd the fact that there was insufficient data to explain the anomaly?
Now I hear it might be verified as soon as next week?

Weeks after the vaccine arrived here i only know one person who has had it. New vaccine delivered to european countries yesterday and they were started that evening. Thousands vaccinated in a 24 hour period.
Our vaccine arrived here weeks ago, amid great fanfare of us being first in the world... blah blah ...but I listen, read and watch media every day and have no clue about daily and total vaccinations done. I am not surprised but am concerned. This has been such a mess. My dd and partner both frontline dd with health issues, not a word.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 27-Dec-20 17:48:06

There have been some high profile folk. But how many GN folk over 80 have had it do we know?

Casdon Sun 27-Dec-20 18:56:11

Quite a few gransnetters have had it or have dates Whitewavemark2, there’s a separate trail on the site devoted to that.
The policy for administration rollout is different in different parts of the UK so it will vary by area, but there is a weekly tally in Wales so we are aware of how many doses have been administered each week - I don’t know if that’s also happening in the other parts of the UK or not?

Whitewavemark2 Sun 27-Dec-20 18:57:13

That’s good to know. I began to wonder whether it was all an illusion!

Casdon Sun 27-Dec-20 18:58:08

No, it’s definitely happening thankfully.

MissAdventure Sun 27-Dec-20 18:59:40

Shouldn't it be broadcast regularly, just so we know that everything is on track?
A big enough fuss was made about us being "the first".

It seems suspiciously quiet now.

Brilliant! People using their initiative.

Casdon Sun 27-Dec-20 19:46:08

It is in Wales, are you signed up to the local news channels, your local health organisations etc., that’s the best way to find out?

MissAdventure Sun 27-Dec-20 22:36:01

I'm signed up to my local news, plus I'm a keyworker, but my company have heard nothing yet regarding vaccination, which they are obviously more than keen for the staff to have.
