Supermarket delivery success

Like many of you, I have been trying for the last weeks to get a delivery slot from several supermarkets. I can't even get through to register as vulnerable.
Today I tried Iceland---not somewhere I would normally look--because I heard that someone else had been successful.
Sure enough, registering as someone in their vulnerable group---over state pension age---was easy on line, and I am having a delivery tomorrow.
True, the choice is limited, but sufficient to feed us

Many thanks for that. I've registered too, but no slots available. I'll just keep trying.

I wish you good luck with your order. I was thrilled to get a slot from them yesterday which was today (Wednesday) and only half of my order came. The half missing included most staples eg eggs ,cheese, stock cubes, tea, marmalade, frozen vegetables etc but I was still relieved to get bread, frozen fish, pizza, fruit juice and fresh tomatoes and cucumber so I now have some food in my house.
Be interested to know what happens with your order when it arrives.

avitori have you tried signing up with a local milk man? Mine delivers milk, cheese, eggs, bread, fruit juice. Twice a week.

avitorl Thu 02-Apr-20 10:16:17

Thank you,Pikachuc,I've tried all local Milk men,Farms etc and no chance of getting deliveries as a new customer and I completely understand that.

I’ve been with MilkandMore for many years, and hardly any extras are arriving, nor the regular weekly egg order I’ve always had.
They’ve been absolutely inundated with new customers.

At least 3 times now I’ve ordered a fruit and veg box, which has never arrived.
Milk and Saturday’s fresh orange juice are still arriving so far though, thank goodness.

I’m with MoreFresh and, so far, they’ve been delivering extra. Fingers crossed it continues.

Having been a regular Sainsbury’s online customer for some years now and also 82, I am getting weekly deliveries and I do know just how fortunate I am.
I am having one this afternoon and things must be getting back to normal as the email
I received this morning as usual only have two substitutions, fine sea salt for course and 1kg of raisins for 500 gms.
My friends are waiting to hear if they have been accepted for deliveries, he is 88 and in poor health.

I managed to get a click and collect Sainsbury's order last week but not been able to get anything since with any of the supermarkets - until this morning when I logged into Morrisons at 5.30 am and was only in the queue for 2 mins. I managed to book a delivery but not until 22nd April . We can probably manage until then apart from milk, bread and fresh veg

My husband went to the local farm shop for potatoes and picked up 6 local eggs. They were lovely. I was using the last one to make scrambled eggs and put a supermarket egg in the bowl to whisk them together. What a difference! The farm egg had a large, bright orange yolk and the supermarket one a little pale one.

Liz46 Thu 02-Apr-20 11:31:07

I forgot to say that I am on the very vulnerable list and am unable to get a delivery.

glammanana Thu 02-Apr-20 11:42:36

Marydoll If you keep checking Iceland between 12-2pm you may find that they release some more slots as and when they aquire more drivers.
I was lucky to get a delivery last week for DD and myself which will keep me going for a few weeks.

Marydoll Thu 02-Apr-20 11:44:06

Thanks for, * Glammanana*?

I booked one with Tesco 3 wks ago it’s coming between 3&4 today but nothing available since.
How does it work as it says no bags, do they just tip it out on the floor or should I help unload the goods? It’s ages since I had a home delivery. I’m wondering what will actually arrive ?.

avitorl Thu 02-Apr-20 12:01:58

I've been back on Iceland and have managed to book another slot for tomorrow.I booked earliest delivery in the day so hope it might mean that I will get the items that didn't arrive in my order yesterday.
I hope this will give me the essentials I need. Good luck everyone.

Marydoll Thu 02-Apr-20 12:29:47

I too have managed to get an Iceland slot for tomorrow. Thank you so much for the tip.

Charleygirl5 Thu 02-Apr-20 12:41:01

I ordered with Morrisons for 3 household and the delivery came on Tuesday 2 days ago. Everything was bagged, the fellow was going to leave them in the street but there is no way I could have managed to lift that amount indoor. He kindly left in my hall while I stayed in the living room with the door closed.

There were many substitutions but nothing vital.

I have tried to get another Morrison's online slot but zilch available even until the end of April. I think I will be shopping at Waitrose the closest or Lidl the cheapest.

cornergran Thu 02-Apr-20 12:49:55

Morrison’s delivery today. Only one missing item and two substitutions. Much delight here. smile. I also can find no more slots charley. Waitrose won’t let me order as we’re not in their ‘at risk’ because of age list, probably because the on line system won’t let me attach the Waitrose loyalty card. I’ve emailed. Don’t expect a quick response though. N Sainsbury sometimes offer a slot, so we’re pretty well served here. We’ll be fine for things other than milk and bread for a couple of weeks. Apparently the nearest farm shop has both and no customers, will head there and see. If all else fails I’ll go to Waitrose as their system is pretty good.

BlueSky Thu 02-Apr-20 13:15:05

Tanith no bags means that unfortunately you will have to have your bags/boxes ready by the door to transfer items either from their crates or your doorstep. Hopefully they will reintroduce plastic bags for the time being.

rosenoir Thu 02-Apr-20 13:36:02

Tesco are delivering with bags, and not that it matters but there is no charge for them.

tanith Thu 02-Apr-20 13:49:20

Thankyou both

QuaintIrene Thu 02-Apr-20 14:03:01

Holy moly. Got an Iceland slot for tomorrow. Ordered for ages from them, but they have been so busy obviously.
Yay !
Got things that I can’t get from the corner shop like fruit and veg. Oh, and butter.
My friends son has got a new job delivering for them this week. They are taking hygiene very seriously. His manager reckons that when things calm down home delivery will really take off because people who never used it before will carry on with it and he might be kept on.
