Now he has to go!

Well, that's that then. It's all arranged. For me at least. Booked the hotel to stay in when I take my son to university! I was going to pay for someone to take him with all his belongings but it would have worked out the same money for me to be away in a nice hotel for a couple of nights so chose that option instead.

So he has to get the grades enough now to get in. No pressure then. grin

Alea Mon 27-Jun-16 22:54:28

So why is it such a mystery? hmm

Why are you so interested Alea in my son's life? It seems very strange to me. Yes, I post how I am feeling but his business is his business and unlike some people he doesn't do selfies, or sit on facebook or twitter, he has things to do. I suggest you do the same and stop obsessing over where my son is going to university.

Neither he nor I have to prove to anyone about his education or intelligence level. I have got my two children to university, a (now) single mother on benefits, whoop for the downtrodden amongst us! (Sarcasm). I was grammar school educated and can hold my own in a give situation. Also I was taught to have my manners so I will not be rude to my elders, you being older than I am, so please move on to someone else or only say polite things in future. If you have nothing nice to say . . .

Gosh! Alea doesn't deserve this at all. It is you telling us about your son and it is very confusing if you say conflicting things and then refuse to clarify if someone asks you to explain.
I hope your son gets the grades he needs and he has a great university experience academically and socially.

Classic controlling behaviour. Or so it seems. Withold information. Only tell half a story. Make things confusing for listeners and don't clarify when they express confusion.

Alea Tue 28-Jun-16 07:40:39

Oops! Slapped wrist for taking an interest.
hmm
Usually when people start to talk about their children or grandchildren on GN it is because they think other people might be interested. Clearly not the case here so , note to self, next time must make sure not to read any posts on the subject.
Now as to selfies, Facebook or Twitter. Who brought them up? Not me I don't think. confused
Being polite to one's "elders" however that is a bit of a back handed compliment /issue on GN. The politeness to our elders policy in the guidelines? Me neither.
So, apologies for taking a "polite interest " in a subject on which you have written copiously, Rubylady Would you prefer me to say I am agog with indifference?
Quite what has occasioned this outburst about single mothers, benefits, intelligence or anything is beyond me. Perhaps your " Cambridge " comment was meant to be sarcastic, but a simple question, only needed a simple answer. hmm
PS when you are driving him to uni in the Autumn turn RIGHT out of Stockport for Wales, LEFT for East Anglia. grin

annsixty Tue 28-Jun-16 07:44:34

Stockport? That's me Alea.

Alea Tue 28-Jun-16 07:48:07

Sorry, annsixty just showing my geographical ignorance of the North-West blushblush

And she knows it.

ruby since you post a lot about your son, we are only taking an interest. You say he is going to Cambridge so naturally we expect it to be one of the Colleges in Cambridge that make up the University there.Simple as that really.
If it is a FE College in Wales, that's fine, you just needed to say.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 28-Jun-16 14:22:26

hmm

God save us from bored women.

Jalima Tue 28-Jun-16 15:17:21

It can't be an FE College if he is awaiting his 'A' level results

Hope he gets a place where he wants to go ruby, be it University of Wales - very good - Cambridge or wherever

Hope you have a sat nav wink

My son has just finished his A levels and is possibly off to Manchester Uni. I'm seriously concerned that he won't get the grades needed, so might take a year off and resit, which will be problematic as the exam specifications have changed.

It's a worrying time. I wish he could just relax and enjoy the long break, but he dislocated his knee last week, so can't do anything much for six weeks.

thatbags Thu 30-Jun-16 06:21:54

The nice thing about the Scottish system is that you can secure a place at uni on the basis of your Highers results a whole year before you leave school, so sixth year is spent doing stuff you couldn't fit in before.

NanKate Thu 30-Jun-16 06:40:49

My DS went to Exeter Uni many moons ago. He joined the Rugby Club as sixth reserve, never went on the pitch, which is fortunate as he had never played the game. He was on the committee for the Cocktail Society and in his quiet moments wrote a few essays and reviewed a few films. The joys of university life. grin

Best of luck to your DS Rubylady and enjoy your mini break.
