Buyers remorse!

Have bought clematis montana, "Spring Joy" £13, flowers May & June, 20 - 30 ft.

Now wish I had gone for Montana "Fragrant Spring", £10, same flowering period, 15 - 20 ft, and scented

Grrr!

Oh phoenix!

You've told me on the Evergreen Climber thread that Spring Joy isn't supposed to be very vigorous... 20 -30 ft, not vigorous? shock grin

Get rid, or plant it to climb up a tree, and get the other one. It sounds much nicer..

Can you take it back and say you picked up the wrong plant by mistake?

Callistemon Mon 14-Sep-20 17:05:15

I think one of ours may be Montana "Fragrant Spring but I can't say I've ever smelt any sweet fragrance from it.

MaizieD I'm sure I read in the catalogue that it wasn't as vigorous as some. blush Currently don't have a suitable tree for it, in fact in the process of planning the thinning out of the hedgerow at the bottom of the garden.

Callistemon no, ordered on line from a specialist grower.

Would it wind through the hedgerow? It could look lovely in the spring.

Well....I suppose it’s not as vigorous as the Russian vine! Otherwise known as the mile a minute?

Probably would, Callistemon but Mr P has just squeezed himself behind the oil tank to fix the trellis to the fence in the exact place where I was adamant that it would be just right confused, plus the ground by the hedgerow would probably need a pneumatic drill to make it workablesad.

Add to this sorry tale, I have been gently reprimanded for the amount I have spent on this project so far. blush

I won't tell him that I have contacted the rose grower to ask if I can add Etoile de Hollande to my New Dawn and Papi Delbard that will be arriving in November.

Still, on the plus side I'm getting 28 free bulbs with my winter flowering honeysucklesmile

PS, any ideas why auto correct changes the word "hedgerow" to "bacteria"confused I can't see any similarity!

Because you want a lovely garden
Because you're worth it.

The rhodendron looks just the same, not growing but not defunct.

hedgerow

Callistemon Mon 14-Sep-20 21:37:56

No, my autocorrect likes hedgerow

I've never been one for an excess of bowing, although I did occasionally have to curtsey when I lived in staff quarters at Windsor Castle with exdh.
