My Grandchild said to me..

My youngest grandaughter 6 and I had lunch together at half-term then we went to the park , we have a large open park just round the corner and as we got to the edge of a large open field and the sun was shining I had the urge to run (which I don't do very often having arthritis and a hip-replacement) anyway I said "beat you to the playground", and we raced each other across that field. When we got near the playground I slowed down she was in front of me , she turned with such a look of surprise and said " I never knew Nannies could run", it was such a wonderful moment and I'll remember it always. She is a beautiful child.

So any other My grandchild said moments to share?

My eldest grandson thought it was very funny that I need a step stool to get things off the top shelf in the kitchen cupboard , he collapsed on the floor with laughter wnen he saw me on it ( I'm not that short... honest) He couldn't wait to tell his mum when she came to collect him, he even told his teacher at school. A year on and he still mentions it now !smile

My eldest granddaughter also six told me she would draw a picture for me to take with me when I am away. She drew pictures on one page of us together. First we are standing together holding hands, then we are both on a seesaw, next we are climbing on a climbing frame and then together swinging on the swings. She wrote on it.....I love Yuo grandma.

I will keep it with other special pictures. I always think how lucky I am to have her as my granddaughter. smile

She didn't say it to me but my four-year-old granddaughter asked her Mum, "What happens when you die?". Her mum asked "What do you think happens?" After a pause, she answered, "I think you go up into the sky and see God and Elvis".

1. GD (6) to GS (3) "I know lets do a star wars show for nana" GS "What are you going to use for a Light Saver (sic) ?" GD "It's imaginary" GS "Can I have a turn please?" GD "NO!"
2. They are jostling for position on cosy sheepskin in front of fan heater. GD to little brother, who has an ear infection: "Just because you're not well, doesn't mean you can have ALL your own way!" GS "Oh yes it does!"
3. Walking my GD to school, she nattering away nineteen to the dozen, looking cute in her plaits and trying to skip at the same time (with a rope).
We get into the town centre, going along a narrowish pavement. "Might not be a great idea skipping here darling, you might trip up an old person, or hit a child with the rope..." She mulled on this for a moment and then came back with "Or hit a policeman in the nuts"

When my granddaughter (now 21) was about 7 or so, we were walking through M&S, and as we reached the underwear section, she asked me very loudly, "Grandma, did they have bras in the olden days when you were younger?" shock

I often play football with my Grandson aged 4,.. On one occasion - after playing for a long long time, I said to him 'I need a rest now - Not many Grannys can play football you know !'
He replied 'Well,.. you are lucky then, aren't you Granny ?'

I couldn't argue with that !

On another occasion, GS asked me 'Will you be dead before my Gangies?' ( he calls his maternal Grandad, Ganggies)
I told him I did not know and that no one knows,....
He was quite irritated and told me 'But Granny,.. I NEED to know' !

My not-quite-3 year old GD said 'You made me sad.'
I asked her what I'd done and was told, 'You went home.'
Bless her smile

Last week sadly I had to have my very frail elderly cat PTS we were all very sad , when my daughter told my smallest grandaughter she thought about it for a moment then said ' will it be in the papers'. Kids say the cutest things..

Torben is seventeen months old. He lives in London. I live in Scotland. We meet rarely, but when we do, we have enormous fun. At the weekend, he came to me with my walking stick and said; 'Nana' for the very first time. Then he tugged on my skirt and led me to the door. Off we went, holding hands, to the local park. A magical moment smile

I think the most throat-choking, eye-filling, heart-breaking thing ever said to me was when my four-year-old granddaughter twice asked on the phone if she come for a sleep-over – she lives in New Zealand.

Gally Thu 10-Nov-11 14:12:17

Barnaby, aged 3 1/2, when reprimanded by Grandad retorted in a broad Australian accent 'I don't like you Grandad' then turned round, dropped his shorts and wiggled his bottom at Grandad. shock

supernana Thu 10-Nov-11 14:22:56

absentgrana I feel for you...x

JessM Thu 10-Nov-11 17:26:44

Ah absent my 3 yr old GS a few months back, on Skype... I said "I'm sneding you a kiss and a hug through the computer" to which the reply was "Can you send YOU through the computer".
One of the trials of being so far apart is that they can't come for a sleep over isnt it.

gulligranny Fri 11-Nov-11 17:46:32

Oldest granddaughter Megan, nearly 4, told me and Granddad that we were old and were going to die, and that she would be very, very upset. Then she looked us up and down and said "But I don't think you're going to die SOON".
Which is very reassuring!
