It occurred to me that I can’t remember the last time I had a cold or anything catching.

I guess it is down to social distancing etc.

Has anyone else had a cold if late?

Around 12 years! Which considering my body is failing in so many different other ways is quite amazing really!

I put it down to my sleeping arrangements, which are a bit weird - as I am now unable to get comfortable in a bed I have slept in a riser recliner in my kitchen for about 10 years now, and unless it really is bitterly cold outside I have the door open!

I relate it to those sanatoriums they had for TB sufferers where they brought the beds out on to the verandahs - works for me!

I can’t remember when I last had a cold I rarely get them. I put it down to always washing my hands upon returning home even pre-Covid and taking Vit C every day during Winter. As more people are doing this it makes sense that there will be less transmission of common illnesses.

Grandchildren are beginning to get colds at school, thank goodness for that, as they need to build up their immunity. But inevitably they will give us one at some point! grin

I've had a cold, it started 2 weeks ago. I have no idea how / where I got it..
I went for a covid test which thankfully was negative.

Kate1949 Tue 06-Oct-20 11:20:54

It must be 30 years since I had a cold. No one believes me but it's true.

Gwenisgreat1 Tue 06-Oct-20 11:26:10

Yes, i've had slight symptoms of a cold, because I have lung problems I contacted the doc I have to have a Covid test before they can see me.. Yesterday I used a home kit and was very wobbly doing it yesterday at 7 am!! So it will probably come back 'inconclusive' and I shall have to self isolate for a further week, by which time I will either be better or have died of Covid!!

Shrub Tue 06-Oct-20 11:31:27

I can believe that Kate1949 as I rarely get them either, and I've never had flu either. Perhaps I shouldn't have written that - fingers crossed!

I get a couple of colds a year, probably because I've always worked with patients (been a hospital ward receptionist, now a healthcare worker on a ward).

I had one a few weeks ago, felt really rough for a couple of weeks. My employers insisted I have a Covid test, which was negative.

Callistemon Tue 06-Oct-20 11:37:06

Yes, just a slight one which DH then caught.
The only place I have been is to hospital! (Out patient).

FlexibleFriend Tue 06-Oct-20 11:38:57

I've never had a cold.

Kate1949 Tue 06-Oct-20 11:57:08

Quite a few of us who don't get them then. I had one after the other as a child, so maybe I'm immune! I bet I'll get one now!

Marydoll Tue 06-Oct-20 12:18:44

I usually have at least two chest infections after Christmas, I've had none.
It must be down to the fact I've rarely been out in public.

BlueSky Tue 06-Oct-20 12:35:40

Not since retiring and this year should be even better! (Touch wood!)

MamaCaz Tue 06-Oct-20 12:44:34

I thought I had outgrown colds, but then the dgc started to come along, and as soon as I started looking after them I started catching regular colds again!!!

JenniferEccles Tue 06-Oct-20 14:05:39

I think this is normal as we get older.

I believe there are only a certain number of cold viruses and by the time we reach our 60s and older, we have encountered most of them.

Our immune systems are amazing aren’t they?

maddyone Tue 06-Oct-20 14:11:02

I don’t get colds these days, but I pick up every little cough due to my asthma. And they take forever to go, despite using high dose steroid inhaler daily all the time. Occasionally I go to the GP and get oral steroids but I try to avoid that if possible. So no to colds, yes to coughs.

I had a head cold 3-4 weeks ago, probably got it from DGD. Was over it pretty quickly, definitely not Covid-19. I just took standard symptom relief remedies. I always have a bit of a wheeze and cough as I have asthma.

Cabbie21 Wed 07-Oct-20 10:04:45

I rarely get colds. I start with a sore throat, but it normally just affects me as a severe cough. The last one I had was in February. Just as I thought I was getting rid of it, it kept going. If I had it now, I would get tested for Covid, but I think it was just my usual type of cold which goes to my throat.

TrendyNannie6 Wed 07-Oct-20 10:27:30

It was last year not a bad one but few sniffles I’m immune compromised so I usually get them

vickya Wed 07-Oct-20 10:27:56

I get them every few months. I used to get some from small grandchildren when I collected them from school, or from the daily swim, some chemical triggers sneezing and running and blocked nose and it can go on a few days or go in a day. I'm just finishing one now after not having one all summer. It started Saturday, so if it has really gone that's not too bad. They do say at least a week. I did feel a bit fragile but since cold is not a corvid symptom and had no cough or fever it was just a cold.

Theoddbird Wed 07-Oct-20 10:33:07

Not had one for over 30 years.. I had a very bad one then and was determined it would not happen again. I started telling them to go away at first sneeze. Mind over matter. I took control. It worked.

Scottiebear Wed 07-Oct-20 10:34:56

I am hoping that the extra precautions we are all taking against the virus will also help protect us against catching colds and flu. Fingers crossed.

Northernandproud Wed 07-Oct-20 10:36:54

Yes last week I'm not sure how i caught it, i wear a mask, wash my hands and socially distance, but in any other year if i get cold im miserable for ages with it, this one i started sneezing last weekend felt awful for a few days and then seemed to get over it much quicker

Riggie Wed 07-Oct-20 10:37:29

I have one now. DS is at a special needs college and although they are being as careful as is possible due to having some very medically vulnerable students he has brought a cold home and shared it with me.
