Large sofa recommendation

We’ve had our two M&S three seater sofas for over 20 years and they’ve been amazing! Sadly the upholstery has faded and so either we need to get them recovered or just replace them. Any recommendations for where to buy good quality sofas which will last?

Take a look at Sofa Sofa online. They are made in Wales.

Ours are GPlan they still look good and as comfy as ever bought from furniture village if you have one near but lots of outlets sell them i think. They arent ultra modern style but are so comfortable with a high back.

We’ve got both sofa sofa and G-Plan furniture. All very comfortable and hard wearing. Our previous sofas were also from G-Plan, lasted well and were passed on in the family.

I’ve had a nice sofa and armchair from DFS. My friend has also had several sofas from them, we’ve both been pleased

We also have G-Plan. The Dining room suite was bought in 1961, from The Ideal Home Exhibition.
(mid century and now in demand ?)

Our two sofas have been replaced by G-Plan leather ones.
Like Tanith's, they have high backs, maybe not ultra modern, but extremely comfortable.

Tetrad are British made and they do large sofas, I loved the Eastwood, now sadly discontinued. But the Montana is available and you can select the colours you want.

Another fan of Tetrad, have had several over the years, I don’t know what they are called, but our current ones are gorgeous shades of purples and wines in crushed velvet, comfy and beautiful.

I bought mine from Sofas by Saxon, it's beautifully made. I believe they have showrooms in Bolton and London. The quality is exceptional and their customer service makes for a simple, stress free experience. Take a look at their reviews. I wanted a large purple leather sofa bed ( not easy to find) and I got exactly what I wanted.

I would say don't buy from DVD the price on the ticket in the shop is not what you pay...many, many hidden costs.

I made the mistake of having a three piece suite specially made without checking if it would fit through the porch, hall and round a tight corner into the living room. They just about managed to squeeze it in. I’ll never do that again.

Ours is a four seater from Alston’s and I love it.

I recommend you look at Nabru: www.nabru.co.uk/

I bought a sofa that converts to a bed and a wide chair 13 years ago. They have lasted well and are still comfortable and look good. You have a huge choice of fabrics and styles.

Nabru furniture is delivered on a pallet in pieces. You carry the pieces into your room and then slot them together. Their guarantee says “ OUR PRODUCT ALWAYS FITS! We've supplied our products to just about every conceivable difficult to access location including lofts, cellars, boats and spiral staircases - in the highly unlikely event our products won't fit (this has never happened) we will give you a refund in full! You are obliged to ensure that there is sufficient space in the room to fit the product.”

I bought my large reclining 2 seater sofa from DFS ,which I use every day , well over 10 years ago and it’s as good now as the day I bought it . I’d also bought at same time two leather reclining chairs to go with it from Argos , they are also as good as the day I’d bought them .

We have a large Alstons sofa in the TV room. With energetic grandchildren and two dogs on it, it is very robust and wearing well.

We have two Tetrad sofas with removable washable covers. These sofas are 25yrs old now but we have had new seat cushions made and two new sets of covers.

Sara1954 Sun 24-Jul-22 09:23:22

When I was young and we didn’t have much money, I used to drool over a huge Tetrad sofa in a furniture shop window.
Now I’ve had several, I haven’t chant mind, love them.

Sara1954 Sun 24-Jul-22 09:23:48

Sorry, changed my mind

JaneJudge Sun 24-Jul-22 09:32:27

you aren't going to get what you paid for 20 years ago and if the frames are still sound and you still like the sofas, I'd be inclined to get them reupholstered and recovered in a fabric you really like rather than one dfs suggests you want smile

I bought my sofa and armchair from Sofa Sofa 3 years ago. They are made in a factory just outside Newport. I visited and was able to try out the different styles first. When you are only 5ft. 3ins. like me, it's important that the settee "fits". I don't want my legs dangling at my age.
The furniture was delivered within 3 weeks of ordering. Some furniture brands take months to deliver.
I am very pleased with the furniture and would recommend them, they also come with a 5 year guarantee.

I am only 5 feet tall and chairs and sofas have to fit me too. I cannot abide having to dangle my legs when I sit on any seating, it makes then ache.

As someone else has stated, if you like your existing set up then get them recovered.

Thank you everyone - some great suggestions!

Wrigleys Thu 22-Sep-22 18:14:35

Hi Dotty! Logged in to ask for sofa recommendations and found that you’d already asked the question! How did you get on? We need to replace our 28 year old M&S sofabed and armchairs but haven’t seen anything we like in our local M&S and our other favourite shop Wesley Barrell has closed down. Now going to Google the shops suggested in this thread and see if I can find something suitable :-)

Wrigleys Thu 22-Sep-22 18:19:41

ps When I asked the shop assistant to see samples of linen mix floral upholstery fabrics she told me that that sort of fabric was ‘of its time’ and few people chose it nowadays. I felt instantly old blush
