Where have my lips gone?

I am 67. Late menopause. Hysterectomy three years ago. Now I am beginning to look like someone who has taken their false teeth out! Lipstick (which I rarely wear) accentuates this. Genetics are probably part of this because so did my mother. However she didn’t have any teeth. (The dentist who advised that should have been burned in oil). Totally against any invasive treatment. Any ideas?

I use a lip liner which I use to outline my lips then fill in with lipstick finally a lip plumper. All of these reasonably priced in Superdrug.

Lips tend to thin has you get older like Jimjam I use lip liner and l use lip colour with lip plumper in I don't use pastel colours I find bright reds make my lips look even thinner .if unsure what to buy ask advice at counters you may even get some samples !clarins and no7 come mind .

Yup. I had a lovely full mouth. Then menopause and although I still have lips, now they are thin. I use a sheer colour (peachy pink) which makes them look a little better. OR a lip stain if I am making an effort, which is rare. I apply it just around the outside of my cupids bow and on either side of my bottom lip to make them look a little fuller. A very slight amount inside the edges of the bottom lip but none in the front middle bit. The slightly darker edges but pale front bit give an illusion of fullness. After the stain has totally dried, I use a little lip salve or vaseline over the top. Not gloss because I hate the sticky feel. Takes about 30 seconds. But still, I don't often bother.

I think thin lips look better than the ghastly plumped up mouths that the women on Love Island or suchlike have. Not that I watch it, the trailers are enough to put me off.

I never really had lips.
Sadly, although this means nothing much to lose. It does mean I can do nothing acceptable with what now remains!
I tend to barely hint at lips and concentrate on my eyes (if I ever wear makeup, which is rarely).

Mbra12 - when you find yours, could you take a look around and see if mine are there too?!

But I do not care at all about it - as you get older features change - I do not regard this as a negative thing, but it is just a fact of life. I certainly can't be bothered with playing about with make-up!

Very trying, isn't it? I go for the Max Factor or Number 7 extra moisture lipsticks which seem to keep my lips soft and make the best of them. The very worst kind seem to be the longer lasting lipsticks which look so dry and make my mouth look tight. A colleague said I had a lovely model girl mouth - I was so thrilled, but that was about thirty years ago and when I catch sight of my face now I seem to have a mouth that would sit well with a hag in a temper - two thin straight lines!

I agree with NotSpaghetti. If they are thin why draw attention to them? Better to highlight your best features (or least ugly)!

I think we all vary. My lips are still there but paler, but where the hell are my eyebrows?

I agree Calendargirl. Same thing happening to me and I'm adjusting my look rather than trying to cling on to my earlier self. I always feel sorry for women who try to stay the same when it's actually time to change into a style just as good but different. Go for being well-groomed. Use a sheer lipstick that is close to your natural lip colour. Use a lip pencil the same shade or similar, to give definition. I find lip plumpers irritate my lips (that's after all how they achieve their effects) but there are many not too expensive for you to experiment with.

Equally, make sure your eyebrows are cared for as they will frame your face. No need to spend a fortune. You can do it yourself. (I was once asked "Where do you go to get your eyebrows done?" I answered " My bathroom.") Go for elegance and definition.

Clarins have a lovely Lip Oil which gets your lips in good condition - it was the only thing that restored my lips after a bout of pneumonia a few years ago.

I have always had thin lips - something that was very kindly pointed out when I was about 10 by a friend's mother !
I find wearing a slightly glossier lipstick rather than matt works.
If you use a lip liner, make it the same colour as your lipstick - a darker colour is very ageing, or do away with the liner completely.

I am so lucky. I have inherited my mum's full lips which at the age of 89 she still has. I am 66yrs old and they show no sign of thinning. I believe there may be some lipsticks which contain something that plumps lips up, but of course it is only temporary.

If you have lost your eyebrows get your thyroid checked. Low Thyroid is one of the main reasons for loving your eyebrows. Good luck.

polnan Wed 22-Jan-20 10:06:45

I think smiling is good! Hopefully people will pick up on your good nature and not bother to try and measure your lips!!

My first post and what a comfort you all are! I have always had thin lips much to my misery, especially these days with “the pouty (spelling?)” fashion now. I certainly wouldn’t want to go this extreme but will be going to Superdrug to look for the recommended productsThanks all x

I use o 'keefs lip conditioner, one application lasts all day. Always wear make up when not staying at home all day and lipstick helps to make my lips look fuller. I can't wear red anymore as it makes them look thinner but use a more natural lip colour. It's the only make up I spend money on and usually go for Estee lauder, everything else is the cheaper end.

HettyMaud Wed 22-Jan-20 10:33:57

Why not accentuate your eyes instead -perhaps eyeshadow and mascara. Or some beautiful specs. I've always had thin lips and a tiny mouth so don't even attempt to draw attention to my lips other than a bit of lipstick for colour.

Rozzy Wed 22-Jan-20 10:34:29

While you're looking for your lips, please keep an eye open for my waistline.....!
Agree that the current trend for pouty lips looks horrible though; my mother used to have an allergy to some seafoods & her lips would swell & be really painful, it reminds me of that.
