Last night at the Spectator awards Boris apparently said Brexit will be a titanic success........

ninathenana Thu 03-Nov-16 12:15:00

Doesn't get any better does he thlgrin

Lazigirl Thu 03-Nov-16 12:43:44

Icebergs ahoy.

Luckygirl Thu 03-Nov-16 12:50:20

Groan!

Jayh Thu 03-Nov-16 13:04:07

Man the lifeboats!

Lazigirl Thu 03-Nov-16 13:05:32

Oh! It's not an iceberg, it's Gina Miller!!

GrannyMac1945 Thu 03-Nov-16 13:13:56

Ahh, but was it a coded message ? Notwithstanding I'd like to clip his ear - he's not as daft as he would like us to think.

whitewave Thu 03-Nov-16 13:39:57

He's keeping it well hidden granny

Penstemmon Thu 03-Nov-16 14:24:43

and the band played on.... what a plonker? or a calculated "gaffe"?

POGS Thu 03-Nov-16 14:35:12

It depends on how you hear / read / perceive his meaning I suppose.

Some obviously find the use of the word 'titanic' amusing because they visualise or immediately think of the sinking of the 'Titanic'. Boris is fair play to be 'the butt of a joke' , never given credence of having any intellect, a fool.

Others will hear / read / perceive his words in the literal meaning .

Strong, extremely powerful, important, immense, great in ability of strength etc. etc. etc.

Either way you perceive it he is likely to find amusement in his choice of words/gaffe and won't be wounded by it.

He is pure Marmight isn't he.

thatbags Thu 03-Nov-16 14:53:46

Calculated, I reckon. He apparently has a sense of humour.

whitewave Thu 03-Nov-16 15:07:54

Not sure who finds him amusing though. I expect Boris finds himself amusing, he certainly acts as if he does.

Ana Thu 03-Nov-16 15:16:41

Makes you wonder just how many people actually know the meaning of the word 'titanic', POGS!

Jayh Thu 03-Nov-16 16:09:00

I do know the meaning of the word titanic, but I find find his choice of it in this context amusing. Probably well chosen too to get a response. Also, I don't doubt his intelligence as I have seen the difficult Latin entrance exam that he had to sit and pass as a young boy.

Lazigirl Thu 03-Nov-16 17:37:35

I don't think May finds Boris very amusing going by the barbed comment she made to him apropos Heseltine's dog.

rosesarered Thu 03-Nov-16 17:39:30

Think of the Titans! They were pretty big and spectacular, rather like Boris himself.grin

MaizieD Thu 03-Nov-16 17:43:54

But the Titans were overthrown by their rebellious children, weren't they?

Interesting...

rosesarered Thu 03-Nov-16 20:54:52

Boris lives a charmed life, so he would no doubt be ready for any rebellion ( possibly knock them out with a Cornish pastie.)

MaizieD Thu 03-Nov-16 22:02:05

But will it be a real Cornish pasty or will it be one of the imitation Cornish pasties which are poised to flood the UK post Brexit?

Ana Thu 03-Nov-16 22:11:20

Hmm - what's 'Scotch beef' and 'Scotch lamb'?

Jalima Thu 03-Nov-16 22:16:49

Pasties were invented in Devon anyway, the Cornish pinched the idea grin

Jalima Thu 03-Nov-16 22:18:04

Well, it's a titanic struggle, that's for sure!

maryhoffman37 Fri 04-Nov-16 10:28:57

Teresa May buried her head in her hands when she heard it!

Disgruntled Fri 04-Nov-16 10:31:42

I've just heard Alan Bennett asking how can Paul Merton and Ian Hislop sit on the same panel with people like Boris, Farage et al, as though they're harmless buffoons, when they're not. (But he said it better than that, obviously.)

HootyMcOwlface Fri 04-Nov-16 10:33:17

Freudian (spelling?) slip obviously, probably meant 'gigantic'. I don't think it is very funny though, this is our country's future they are all playing with here. He is an idiot (putting it politely!)
