I see the FBI have stated that there is no further case to answer.
Will this affect the election?

TwiceAsNice Sun 06-Nov-16 23:25:08

I hope so if it means she has a better chance. I think they were rash to reopen it again so close to the election and a bit biased if I'm honest. I quite like her and would like to see her win. Donald Trump is a nightmare, we could be heading for Armageddon if he's in power

Probably not because those who are convinced that there is a case to answer will remain convinced and Mr Trump, if he runs true to form, will continue to claim that there is and the whole thing is corruptly being swept under the carpet.

This looks hopeful. Apparently a third of the votes have been cast already and she's well in the lead, although not as comfortably in the lead as Obama was four years ago.

I do hope the FBI conclusion encourages those who were swayed by the Crooked Hilary claims, to vote for her. I find it difficult to believe the FBI director, who is a Republican, acted without the full knowledge it would play into Trump's hands.
The idea of Trump as POTUS is genuinely terrifying.

Anya Mon 07-Nov-16 08:06:41

Anyone is better than Trump, even Hillary.

Anniebach Mon 07-Nov-16 08:28:12

Trump devotees are not going to change their opinions on Trump or Hilary , they see Trump as the second coming .

Im68Now Mon 07-Nov-16 08:39:42

Times change.

Anya Mon 07-Nov-16 08:57:24

Crude

DaphneBroon Mon 07-Nov-16 09:13:21

And unnecessary.

DaphneBroon Mon 07-Nov-16 09:15:35

In the meantime however I understand 4million Americans have voted already presumably believing Clinton had a case to answer. This must have had some influence? The US system leaves me beyond baffled. confused

Also confused because I clearly (?) remember writing this last night!

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 09:43:18

40 million have voted already, not 4 million, around a third of the voters.
Clinton is leading Trump by 4 million votes.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 09:55:11

I hope the fact a republican was beaten up by Trump's men for having a Republicans against Trump banner will have an effect on the vote. It might make people who are unsure think again about what might happen with Trump as president.

annifrance Mon 07-Nov-16 10:15:53

The mass hysterical supporters at his rallies are not going to change his mind. But hopefully waverers, undecided and others might just see the light. Especially in view of his declaration today that climate change is a hoax and he will rescind the Paris Agreement - actually nothing can happen on that for four years so even if he gets in he can't do anything and by then America will see the evil of his ways and not vote him in for a second term. Caveat No sitting president has ever not got a second term.

Can only think there is corruption within the FBI, all such a set up. Foolishness in the past on HCs part but since proved not harmful.

Going to be an interesting few days.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 10:25:27

I do not understand what wikileaks got out of it.

A very interesting article. It's a long read, but does give some perspective on the issues surrounding both Trump and Clinton which either didn't make news in the UK or I missed. I googled the author and it seems he's a well known political journalist and blogger.

The election antics in the USA have been jaw droppingly awful. I shall be glad when it's over but only if Hilary wins. Politics seems to be a dirty game anyway - and I long for some sense of honour and integrity in it. Dull to some maybe - but very different.
My daughter is out there for a week for her work. I look forward to her take on it when she returns.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 10:34:27

Presumably when Hillary wins, there will be an enquiry into Comey's links with Trump. Or maybe she will just sack him.

Ginny42 Mon 07-Nov-16 10:36:29

Meant to say that I had thought that just as Obama was unable to make some things happen (remember his comment that even the President of the USA can't do some things) I hoped that should Trump win, his powers would be severely restricted by the Senate. Sullivan dispels my hopes!

These are not actual votes counted, they are the party voting turnout. Very different. You can be a registered Republican and vote for anyone, and that even means a write-in. You do not have to vote party, so there are likely many Republicans who are 'holding their nose' as it's been styled, and voting for Hillary. They well are likely voting for their representatives along party lines. Numbers in the below quote are old, it is up to 37+ million now. Hispanic votes will likely make more of a difference this time than African American votes which were cast in a huge turnout for Obama.

^These findings represent absentee ballots and early votes cast by more than 18.6 million Americans across 37 states where data are available. CNN has partnered with Catalist, a data company that works with progressive candidates and groups, to receive detailed early vote return information this year. Catalist's voter list connects returned ballots with demographic and registration information, such as party registration, gender and age, and allows a closer look at who has already cast a vote.

These are not results -- ballots aren't tallied until Election Day. But the findings provide clues on who is voting, and which party is turning out to vote. And while the numbers track voters' party affiliations, not all Democrats are voting for Clinton, and not all Republicans are supporting Donald Trump.^

Fingers crossed...the whole world is watching!

Ack, the quote tool does not work between paragraphs, sorry about that. The last two paragraphs are a quote!

rosesarered Mon 07-Nov-16 11:09:38

I think that not finding evidence by the FBI will definitely help Clinton.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 11:41:12

The CNN link is from October a,d the WSJ is behind a paywall, LewLew.
I look at www.fivethirtyeight.com which gives up to date polling news, and includes WSJ polls.

durhamjen Mon 07-Nov-16 11:44:25

It's six hours behind at the moment because most of the US is still asleep.
