Brexit all done and dusted?

As an arch REMOANER I for one (of many) will not simply roll over and say that is that. As things progress at the very least parliament must ensure that the country does not Brexit in a bad way because of "The Will of the People". So many lies were told by both side at the time of referendum that when the full facts come to light a re-think should be considered.

I have yet to hear a sound reason for voting LEAVE. Of course the EU is far from perfect but we are better trying to change it from within than sniping from outside. A general election or second referendum before the point of absolute no return.

I happen to be visiting Brussels on an educational trip after Easter so until then I will put up and shut up unless really provoked.

Nobody should get too worried/excited/depressed/etc at the thought of Citizen Corbyn in charge, because with a bit of luck it will never happen ( this GE or the next one.)

rosesarered Sun 23-Apr-17 21:43:35

100 staff being made redundant here.
Architects were always the first to go in the building industry.

She said it in Wales. Maybe she means preventing tourism to Wales, unless the Welsh support her.

You cannot blame companies for wanting to relocate. Almost all of the comments we have heard since last June are along the lines of "we're out" as David Dimbleby said when the result was announced.

We are not out. It was an advisory referendum where 37% of those registered to vote (about 25 % of the poulation) decided to advise Parliament to negotiate a leaving deal.

This seems to have been taken as an inviolable instruction by almost everyone, although it is a distorted view promulgated by vested interests.

Even although Article 50 has been triggered, it can be revoked, as we have been assured by the legal expert who drafted it.

Theresa May's hardline pronouncements have been welcomed by a delirious Nigel Farage who has said he couldn't be happier with her policy. I think this is the main reason he is not standing as a candidate - no point, the Tories are following UKIP policies.

The "we're out" hype has scared off firms like Nestle who are big employers, and they won't be the last to go unless we can reverse the slide towards Brexit.

I know we are more likely to be leaving the EU than remaining in, for many reasons, mainly the power of the right wing media, but I do not think we should give up campaigning to remain in the EU.

The life chances of our British grandchildren are too important.

Fitzy54 Tue 25-Apr-17 17:56:42

DJ the Nestle post doesn't seem to be anything to do with Brexit? Not sure about the others either apart from the architects?

durhamjen Tue 25-Apr-17 18:06:04

Why do you think Theresa May wants to prevent tourism, if it's not to keep out the foreigners?

daphnedill Tue 25-Apr-17 18:08:42

There's a building boom in Poland. Foster (the architect) could relocate to Warsaw, to take advantage of the extra wealth generated by the new jobs from Nestle. Simple!

There'll still be plenty of jobs in the UK - if you fancy picking potatoes and wiping bums. hmm

At least "they" won't be taking our jobs!

durhamjen Tue 25-Apr-17 18:09:14

Nestle moving Blue Riband production from Fawdon to Poland nothing to do with Brexit?
I used to live near that York factory. It didn't look like that. I know someone who helped build the new stuff, which is easily transportable to EU countries.

Welshwife Tue 25-Apr-17 18:11:35

Nestlé have actually said it because of Brexit they are moving the jobs to Poland. I think we can expect more to go if a hard Brexit goes ahead but I expect a lot depends on how much they export to the EU. If we go to using WTO rates the tax for food items is quite high.

durhamjen Tue 25-Apr-17 18:15:22

Like I said, Fitzy, the first jobs to disappear in the building industry at times of downturn are the architects.
My husband was an architect. Every time redundancy reared its head, my husband started looking elsewhere for a job.
We moved from Northumberland to Norfolk to Peterborough to Hampshire to Hull all because of the threat of redundancy at various times in his career.
You can say it's nothing to do with Brexit if you like, but you can't prove it.
There must be a downturn in building for Fosters to make that many redundancies.
