Let's not forget Brexit

I still feel that Brexit is wrong though have no idea how stop it. We get mixed messages on the negotiations, DD says that are going fine but the EU side says otherwise.

There was a protest in Manchester where Lib. Dems., European Movement. Open Britain and other groups made their feelings clear.

Our democracy and standard of living is under threat from dogmatism on both the left and the right.

Oh them, yes idiots!

durhamjen Wed 11-Oct-17 21:16:04

They want to get rid of the NHS as well, because people should be able to pay for their health if they are hard working enough.

whitewave Wed 11-Oct-17 21:17:00

Yep all of that. Wonder whose pulling their strings

durhamjen Wed 11-Oct-17 21:34:18

Karen Bradley telling lies today.

Who do you trust, her or Factcheck?

I don’t think they actually understand themselves. Brady wouldn’t say that she would vote for Brexit now On television this morning.

Devorgilla Wed 11-Oct-17 22:22:24

Nothing to do with the Brexit theme but just curious to know if any of our political watchers know what the badge was all the Labour group were wearing at PMQ. If so, please put me out of my misery and tell me.

durhamjen Wed 11-Oct-17 22:45:14

It was a back bombardier badge.
They met the Bombardier union today.

MaizieD Wed 11-Oct-17 23:11:27

What can Labour do about Bombadier, dj? They can't stop the US slapping a 200% tariff on them.

Devorgilla Wed 11-Oct-17 23:14:10

Thank you dj. I can approve of that. I can now sleep easy.

durhamjen Wed 11-Oct-17 23:15:39

300% now. They can't do anything; they were just making a point to the tories.
Bombardier don't have to make aeroplanes. Their engineers can turn their hands to much more useful things.
I wonder if Siemens would think of taking over the Northern Ireland factory and make wind turbines for the Irish Sea.

durhamjen Wed 11-Oct-17 23:17:48

It was also international emergency nurses day today, so I wondered if some of them would be wearing badges for that, but I couldn't see how the aeroplane fitted in.

I agree with the opinions here. The UK is connected by trade to the rest of the EU and a large share of our exports and imports go to there. It is therefore logical to expect consequences if we quit. It is impossible to know how post-Brexit UK-EU trade relations would go. It is a very precarious moment for the UK..

whitewave Thu 12-Oct-17 08:20:01

The DUP wouldn’t accept a no deal I’m sure, so they will vote with labour in the event of a no deal along with the Scottish MPs and I assume some of the lily livered Tories.

Love the way the loons are jumping up and down at Hammond. Oh they say “spend the money -not to do so is being a traitor to the cause”

durhamjen Thu 12-Oct-17 08:28:19

There's an amendment in here to block a no-deal deal.

durhamjen Thu 12-Oct-17 08:31:23

Carwyn Jones also says that no deal would be a disaster. When asked about what Downing Street says, he said that Downing Street doesn't matter any more, it's the committees that matter.

Bank of America moving its European HQ to Paris, Citibank to Luxembourg.

durhamjen Thu 12-Oct-17 08:36:36

Are Brexiteers sure they don't want to chnage their minds?
Dominic Cummings has changed his, and he was one of the leaders of Vote Leave.
Of course, he's blamimg May and Davis.

I voted to leave and would do so again. I considered long and hard and read as much as I could to gain an informed opinion. None of us know what will happen but what I do know is that every piece of encouraging news seems to be ignored.

I love the countries on the continent. I wish them well but think the UK is different. It is not a better place being dictated to by Brussels. I have just come back from holiday - we travelled nearly 4000 miles through France, Spain and Portugal. The difference in those countries compared with the UK is staggering. Obviously they differ in so many ways but one of the most noticeable is the size of the populations. The population in France and the UK is the same yet France is 3 times bigger. I am not a racist but i believe it is entirely reasonable for us to control our borders.

The EU legislation that has a stranglehold on business in the UK is largely ignored on the continent... an example is in construction. Houses are often built using methods which would simply not be allowed in this country - very little scaffold, lax working practices, etc. Yet here we have ridiculous situations where common sense is no longer used. My husband runs a business in the construction industry and finds it increasingly difficult to function. An example he encountered fairly recently was where a site was closed for a whole day because a H&S rep decided that the basins in the portable toilets weren't sufficiently long for someone to put their whole forearm in. Work was stopped causing massive problems.

The Europeans need us. They won't want to lose trade deals with the uk. Amongst many imports, we are the biggest single destination for the export of German cars and the uk is the biggest importer of Champagne.

I think de Gaulle had it about right when he opposed our entry into the common market.. the UK is different.

lemongrove Thu 12-Oct-17 09:56:52

I agree entirely Oriel and in any case, what we have today (EU) is certainly not what we thought it would balloon into when we initially voted for it.

whitewave Thu 12-Oct-17 10:10:49

I see the First Secretary of State has told Newsnight that the U.K. would be better iPod if it had voted to remain. hmm

whitewave Thu 12-Oct-17 10:14:40

I see the World Bank has produced an extremely detailed report on the UK leaving Europe.

With no deal they are assuming a 50% drop in trade with the EU for goods and a 62% drop in services.

Remember only 16% of EU trade is to the U.K. so the pain will not be shared as the loons like to argue.

whitewave Thu 12-Oct-17 10:16:42

I notice that Hammond has admitted that a no deal will ground all flights. At long last some truth is beginning to emerge.

He will be slaughtered by the loons, hope he is prepared.

whitewave Thu 12-Oct-17 10:19:03

Wonder how the Irish border problem is getting on. One thing for sure the DUP will never consider a hard border and therefore a no deal or hard Brexit. That’s £10bn down the pan.

Jaycee5 Thu 12-Oct-17 10:19:13

I agree Oriel but I think you are very brave to stick your head above the parapet here. The OP complains about dogmatism but that is all I see here. I have yet to hear a Remain voter who accepts that there can be a valid alternative view and frankly it is not worth the grief of trying to have a debate about it.
I would prefer the negotiations not to be carried out by the Tories (they are idiots not to have made it a cross party team).
