Let's not Forget Brexit(2)

It seems that 1000 posts is the limit for a thread, so carrying on I have to commend Day6 for persistence though really cannot understand any of the reasons LEAVER have given.

Let's we get the full disclosure of the Brexit impact statements. I want to try to avoid repitition but we have probably said at one time or other everything to say about Brexit.

The bottom line is that we will be worse off outside the EU. Yes there fault with the EU but outside we can do nothing inside we have a say.

The referendum result was based on lies. The LEAVE campaign finances are not above suspicion.

You don't think the time since last January comes into the last five years? It is happening. That is statistical evidence yours is anecdotal evidence. Personally I prefer verifiable statistics.

durhamjen Thu 16-Nov-17 20:18:17

300 from January this year according to the ONS chart.
Aren't you an economist, primrose? Shouldn't you be interested?
Or have I got you mixed up with someone else?

Primrose65 Thu 16-Nov-17 20:38:19

I prefer statistical evidence too gg. Yes, the last 18 months is in the last 5 years, but that accounts for around 750 items.
90,000 items in a Tesco store.
Less than 1%

Here's what the ONS say.
"But even within the “food and non-alcoholic beverages” category, shrinkflation had no noticeable effect. This could be because the number of shrinking pack sizes is relatively small."

No noticeable effect. Perhaps that's why I have not noticed!
Perhaps I'm looking at the 99% of items, not just the few that have shrunk? As the ONS have statistics going back to 2012 on this, how is this anything to do with Brexit?

No, I'm not an economist Jen, you always seem to get me mixed up.

durhamjen Thu 16-Nov-17 21:29:23

So where is your statistical evidence that you prefer?

Front of the Telegraph "May ows to the 'mutineers'

Theresa May is poised to bow to the demands of the Brexit 'mutineers' by dropping Britain's EU exit date from the legislation governing the UK's withdrawal

Apparently Dominic Grieve was suggesting as many as 27 Tories might vote against the Bill as it stands.

GracesGranMK2 Thu 16-Nov-17 22:47:56

That's 'May bows'

GracesGranMK2 Thu 16-Nov-17 22:49:20

I thought you were challenging the fact that it was happening Primrose - it seems it is.

Brexit is causing situations like this to happen, too. It's fear of foreigners. Ridiculous, a family being told that they can continue a family life via skype.

I've no proof of this but I have read on facebook that Anna Soubry has had death threats again after the Telegraph put her on their front page.

durhamjen Sun 19-Nov-17 23:37:58

"Ex-Tory minister Anna Soubry says her office has received 13 death threats since a newspaper front page named her as one of 15 "Brexit mutineers".

The pro-EU Remain supporter said the police took the threats seriously and had passed two cases to prosecutors.

She said she had been "really quite frightened" and blamed the threats on Wednesday's Daily Telegraph front page

The paper's editor defended what he called "the legitimate actions and language of a free press".

The story concerned Conservative MPs planning to rebel against the government's bid to enshrine the precise date of Brexit in law. "

I think they mean Tory ex-minister. It's from the BBC.

It's shameful; what sort of country do we live in now sad. If this is the country we've 'got back' quite frankly, I don't like it.

durhamjen Mon 20-Nov-17 17:22:58

What sort of country do we live in now?
Watch this. Ostensibly about Grenfell, but not just about it.

think-left.org/2017/11/20/failed-by-the-state-the-struggle-in-the-shadow-of-grenfell-part-1/

For those who watch it all, you will realise why May has decided to put £1.7 billion into a contest between cities to get better links between the 'struggling suburbs' and city centres.

Not sure if it's a plot if you tell everybody about it, but it cheered me up.

durhamjen Mon 20-Nov-17 18:24:54

This is interesting. The EU are not going to stop making new rules and laws during the transition period, so the UK will have to abide by them.

This has taken its time as well.

I think that now Merkel is severely weakened the tone of the talks will change.
I feel that this situation with the German government (or lack of) is one of the reasons the eu have been dragging out the talks, hoping that the true leader of Europe (Merkel) will have her hand strengthend. But I'm afraid it's not to be.

whitewave Mon 20-Nov-17 19:09:16

What utter folly

EMA to Amsterdam
EBA to Paris.

Welshwife Mon 20-Nov-17 19:18:36

Yes WW. - and all the jobs that will go too - some of the staff may be going but I dare say there will be redundancies.

durhamjen Mon 20-Nov-17 19:40:20

No redundancies, Welshwife. That would mean unemployed, and we don't have any.

Tegan2 Mon 20-Nov-17 19:45:11

If Merkel is the 'true leader of Europe' and is on the way out I can't help but feel that whoever replaces her will be a darn sight more dangerous and I find it quite frightening. Still, as long as it helps with our brexit negotiations, who cares?

durhamjen Mon 20-Nov-17 19:51:27

I think what Merkel has seen is how damaged May is by not having a majority, and doesn't want that. I don't blame her.
Hopefully if she calls another election the non-voters will get out to vote for her.

Tegan2
still, as long as it helps with our brexit negotiations, who cares
The point is, because of the situation in Germany Brussels doesn't know which way to turn. Germany says jump and Brussels asks, how high.
And please don't read any anti German feeling into that, I like Germans and Germany very much.
Macron is also fearful of his position in the eu now. Merkel was going to be his number one alie in pushing new reforms through in Europe.

durhamjen Tue 21-Nov-17 22:09:59

Arlene Foster is getting upset that the Irish border is being used as a bargaining chip.
What did she expect?
She is prepared to use DUP votes to blackmail the UK.
