This poem just about sums it up for me today.

Yes, she's resigned. But the nasty, vindictive vitriol coming from so many people this morning is unworthy of the rest of us.

Poor woman. She did her best. She worked so hard and for so long, without any useful help from the rest of them. And now all people can do is kick her when she's down.

Personally I think the whole country should give her the biggest and best bunch of flowers possible, and say THANK YOU FOR TRYING SO HARD!

Now let the vitriol continue....

I too wish her well and I hope her future life is long and happy.
Like us mothers, she did her best and what she thought was right.

Craftycat Fri 24-May-19 13:25:30

I am totally with Gonegirl.
The woman did her best after taking over from a sulky schoolboy who took his ball & left the game.
She was on a hiding to nothing & I admire her for her efforts.
I doubt the next PM will get a better reaction if he/she sticks to the deal on the table.
Thankyou Mrs May & I hope the next few months are a lot happier for you than the last few! A lot of MPs should be ashamed of themselves.

lemongrove Fri 24-May-19 13:30:34

I agree with eazybee on this.
She certainly did her best but should have resigned far sooner.
I also think she will regret not getting through the speech without emotion, ( especially as she almost managed it) but she is as human as the rest of us after all.

MaizieD Fri 24-May-19 13:34:23

Good God!

She walked into it with her eyes open. Listened to terrible advice and got rid of all the people who knew what they were talking about. She ignored or insulted half of the population, she left a toxic legacy from her time at the Home Office, subverted parliamentary documentary....

I feel a tiny, tiny twinge of sympathy for her humiliation...

Buffybee Fri 24-May-19 13:43:08

She did her best but it wasn't good enough. She talked a good talk in the beginning but never delivered on her "promises".
I think this quote sums her up:
Her legacy is to have presided over three wasted years of vacillation, obfuscation, cowardice, downright sabotage and destruction of a once-proud democracy, where MP's used to feel honour-bound to represent the will of the people who paid their wages.
Theresa May, to her eternal disgrace, has turned Britain, one of the world's greatest economies and military powers, into an international laughing stock.
She has broken Brexit, and now Brexit has broken her.

NanaandGrampy Fri 24-May-19 13:46:38

I agree totally with the OP !

It was a poison chalice to start with and when I look at the rabble of other politicians of all parties I fail to see a leader amongst them .

DanniRae Fri 24-May-19 13:57:18

I totally agree that Teresa May did her best - I wish her well for the future!

Bridgeit Fri 24-May-19 14:34:44

Buffybee, the saying goes Pride comes before a Fall,
Perhaps our Country has been a a little too proud & arrogant at times.
We no longer rule the waves & it’s time some recognised this instead of trying to re run the past.

lemongrove Fri 24-May-19 14:37:28

Au contraire Brid smile politicians have been a little too proud and arrogant, but not the country.

Daddima Fri 24-May-19 14:40:24

I never thought I’d feel sorry for Theresa May.

I was right.

( And it’s ‘ I wish I loved its silly face’.

Bridgeit Fri 24-May-19 14:49:37

Well obviously not the landscaping , but some of those who
stride across it, not only , on the contrary, but some times very Contrary

paddyann Fri 24-May-19 14:50:29

I dont feel sorry for her I feel sorry for the millions who have struggled daily to survive and the tens of thousands who lost their lives because of her policies.SHE doesn't deserve a "good holiday" what planet are you on that thinks that? The poor folk whose lives she has wrecked deserve retribution for her ideological austerity that ONLY harmed those already badly off .

Bridgeit Fri 24-May-19 14:50:57

Ohhps Landscape not Landscaping

sodapop Fri 24-May-19 15:12:33

I agree with Gonegirl too. Yes of course TM made mistakes but she was surrounded by a a bunch of self serving back stabbers who should be ashamed of themselves but of course are not. I wonder if the next leader will have the integrity of TM.
I wish her well in the future.

Gonegirl Fri 24-May-19 15:13:24

Daddima profound apologies. #ageing brain hmm

GabriellaG54 Fri 24-May-19 15:29:07

Watching and listening to Mrs May give that brief speech to the press and tv cameras, I felt heartily sorry for her.
No family to console her, just Philip her husband who must have been torn to pieces inside seeing her strength evaporate and vulnerability bared.
I wish her everything good and a stress free life away from the raspy hissing of vultures who circled her, chewed her up and spat her out.
They should be very ashamed.

Gonegirl Fri 24-May-19 15:35:57

I agree GG54.

Marmight Fri 24-May-19 15:39:46

Sure she made plenty of mistakes, but just who else, in any party, could have got the country out of this mess, done any better and come out of it smelling of roses? No one in my opinion. They're all as bad as each other, busy back stabbing and watching out for themselves. Very few would understand the word integrity if it bit them on the bum! I despair for the future.
(I don't usually comment on political forums, so will now slink back into oblivion ?)

Jabberwok Fri 24-May-19 15:41:38

Totally agree with you GG54.

Jabberwok Fri 24-May-19 15:43:16

and you sodapop

Fennel Fri 24-May-19 15:47:22

As I said on another thread
"Wish she'd just said screw you guys I'm going home."
A quote from Mumsnet.
She had very little support from her so called colleagues.

Cherrytree59 Fri 24-May-19 15:58:24

I agree ? for Theresa.
She inherited a poison chalice.
She believed in the EU but fought with all her might to uphold Democracy and leave the EU.
Her stamina is amazing but must have taken its toll.

Once the poison chalice has landed fairly and squarely on someone elses lap, she and her husband will be able to sip cocktails on a faraway beach?

henetha Fri 24-May-19 16:07:23

I'm on the planet which says thanks to Theresa May for trying her best with the odds against her, and also that she DOES deserve a good holiday!

MawBroonsback Fri 24-May-19 16:17:25

I may have felt it was high time for TM to go, but would we have preferred her to cut and run like Cameron? She may have been blinkered and stubborn and indeed made bad decisions, but compared to David Davies, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove she has shown real grit and principles.
The sight of the Front Bench (not to mention the Back Bench) rats distancing themselves from her as they fled the sinking ship will be hard to forget or forgive.
I am sorry she has been so personally vilified both in the media and here and frankly, her going is not going to help the country one jot.
Put yer feet up Theresa and have a brew and a large piece of cupcake

yggdrasil Fri 24-May-19 16:18:22

She was arrogant. Her belief in 'the country' was only her belief in herself. She thought was the only one who could make the things she wanted happen.
She was wrong. And the country will have to suffer for years as her legacy.
