Instead of gloom and doom (plenty about) how about we lift our spirits with any good news we hear to cheer us up?
?

As in today:
“THE Wall Street banking giant JP Morgan is about to embark on a major hiring spree in the City, despite Jamie Dimon, the chief executive, previously warning about Brexit job losses.

The growth plans stand in contrast to repeated warnings made by the bank’s boss about the effect Brexit could have on UK staff numbers”

A nightclub opened its doors for dementia suffers. What a joy to see the happiness it brought. It brought back happy memories for those that attended, and it was such a wonderful idea. There are lovely people in this country, who really care. I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

suziewoozie Sun 14-Jul-19 18:52:46

I was talking specifically about Hamilton who wraps himself in the Union Jack but does not live here or pay taxes here.

paddyann Sun 14-Jul-19 19:27:35

There is NO "united Kingdom" there is Westminster where 85% of teh MP's are English therefor they care not one jot about the devolved nations as witnessed in the Brexit shambles .OUR Elected representatives have been allowed nowhere near the negotiations even though the outcome wil affect us as much or more than it will the rest of this dis -"united" kingdom. The sad thing is all you who are english think thats acceptable !!Philip Hammond stated last week thatwithout Scotlands income the "uk" wouldn't be able to pay its way !!

GrannyGravy13 Sun 14-Jul-19 20:03:44

England have won the Cricket World Cup ??

We should celebrate the fact that our country has been a member of the EU for more than forty years and we have prospered as a result and fortunately we have not left yet and long may that continue.

lemongrove Sun 14-Jul-19 22:16:09

Yes GG13 we did it!????
What a tense exciting match it was
Well done England!

Day6 Sun 14-Jul-19 22:23:49

Oh goody we could become the 51st state of America if Trump has his way pushing for Brexit, particularly a no deal one.

And yet * EllanVannin* NO criticism of interfering President Obama who said we'd be at the back of the USA trade deals line if we dared break from the EU. hmm

At least Trump sees our potential.

That's good and it doesn't mean the UK will turn to mush and be swallowed up by the big, bad USA , as other posters want us to believe. Project Fear part 4? (I have lost count...)

Good news is most people have faith in our ability not just to thrive but to grow economically and globally once we leave the EU, which has been holding us back.

If this were not one of the best, safest places to live then a large number of the world's population would not be trying so hard to get here. Immigrants say they struggle to get here because Britain treats them like human beings. Yea yea - I know all about sleazy politicians, knife crime, wobbly NHS, food banks - life is far from perfect but I truly believe that most of us have a life that is about as good as it gets here; none of us are 'entitled' to anything at all; look around the world and see how fortunate we are to be alive and relatively safe, and anyone not thinking that they are lucky to live here does have that great British privilege of being able to leave. Strangely none of the moaners and gripers never seem to. I am now climbing carefully off my soap box, neatly rolling my flag of St. George and awaiting the sound of bullets coming my way.

lemongrove Sun 14-Jul-19 22:32:43

Well said Rosina ???????????

Day6 Sun 14-Jul-19 22:39:53

Good post Rosina

It is in Left Labour's interests to draw attention to all the unfortunate things in society - (which happen throughout most civilised countries, in Europe and not just in the UK) so we'll all think we are living in some sort of dystopian hell. That's Labour's strategy for getting votes. "Everything is Awful" ought to be their campaign logo. grin

Good news - we live in the UK and thinking people are aware there are many societal problems to be addressed. But guess what, we are not alone. That's a global problem. (Always has been) We also live in a place that millions of immigrants are happy to call home. I am glad to call it home too.

Oh well said Maw, lemongrove, Rosina, Day6, GG13, Happychops, Johno, Liz46, Jabberwok, Beammeupscottie and MOnica for getting into the spirit of this thread by posting some GOOD NEWS!

It’s out there & it’s wonderful to celebrate and share what’s happening in the U.K. right now.

It reminds us all what a fantastic country this is and how fortunate we are to live here.

I’m on the lookout for more GOOD NEWS tomorrow!
??

Thanks again for your positivity!

I have just come back from Kenya and Zanzibar, where the majority of the population have no clean water or electricity. I doubt any of us will be facing that sort of poverty. We are so incredibly lucky to live where we do.

I love the green countryside, National Trust gardens, the Proms and open air concerts all over the Country, our historical sites, afternoon tea, our love of animals, Wimbledon, and we have just won the World Cricket in the most exciting match imaginable.

Can't we celebrate what we have without moaning for just a few hours?

Urmstongran Sun 14-Jul-19 23:03:40

Well said B9exchange most of us on here will be with you on this.

MawBroonsback Sun 14-Jul-19 23:19:23

And Captain Ross is back!

lemongrove Sun 14-Jul-19 23:23:53

Does he have his shirt off? ?

maddyone Sun 14-Jul-19 23:29:57

Still some of the best TV drama in the world and some of the best news coverage in the world, despite the BBC’s problems and the bigger number of advertisements on Independent television.

NotSpaghetti Mon 15-Jul-19 00:06:21

Another “vote” for the most exciting Cricket for years!
Fabulous!

growstuff Mon 15-Jul-19 00:15:39

Of course the UK is a good place to leave, compared with many places in the world. I would like to keep it that way, which is why I find it puzzling that so many people want to shoot themselves and their country in the foot and become the 51st state of the US and leave the EU.

Menopaws Mon 15-Jul-19 03:19:02

We won the cricket! In fantastic style, well done England

Mealybug Mon 15-Jul-19 04:41:34

The campaign for the payment of pension to women born in the 1950s is gathering momentum and me being one of them, I'm glad we are starting to get recognised as being treated unfairly. So if the judicial review rules on our side, that will be a good thing in the UK for thousands of women.

Happychops Mon 15-Jul-19 06:55:07

We are lucky to have such a lush and green landscape.
We have stunning views, miles of countryside to walk/cycle.
We have coastal paths and miles and miles of sandy beaches, what a good place to live.

BradfordLass72 Mon 15-Jul-19 07:02:13

Anyone have good news to share about the U.K?

Bluebell woods
Gardens: Wrest Park; Bodnant; Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh; Sissinghurst.

The glory and genius of cathedrals, many of which were built hundreds of years before technology of any kind.

Ancient castles

Cornwall's beaches, traditions and people

Ancient and precious traditions which link us directly with our mediaeval (and before) ancestors: Swan Upping; 'Obby 'Oss; Crying the Neck; Morris Dancing; Silver Ball Hurlian.

Our indomitable spirit - somewhat weakened I am told since the war but I'm sure if the chips were really down, it would be there as strongly as ever.

English Heritage & National Trust.

The diverse mixture of arts and cultures kept alive by people: Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru; Highland Games; Cèilidh and craic.

The Yorkshire Dales, which may sound odd coming from someone who has lived in New Zealand for decades but I was born a Yorkshire Lass and I am proud to be English. Yorkshire is still where my heart lies.

Bonfire Night. Not, in fact a celebration of the poor old Yorkshireman Guido Fawkes being caught but the day designated to celebrate the saving of the life of the King.

William Shakespeare; Turner; Dickens; Constable et al.

The many, many regional foods, cheeses, specialities and favourites which have endured for generations and which mark our weeks, months and years in a way nothing else can.
Sunday Lunch; Christmas Dinner; High Tea; even Chicken Tikka !

The beautiful, rich and ever-changing language, whether it be English, Welsh, Cornish, Gaelic or one of many others still alive and vibrant in the UK.

God Bless 'em all.

Pantglas1 Mon 15-Jul-19 07:46:14

What a lovely comprehensive list BradfordLass72 and we’ll done on your Welsh spelling!

dogsmother Mon 15-Jul-19 07:53:35

The sun is still shining and it makes people smile.
Smiles are infectious I believe that’s something from a Spike Milligan poem and we must all try to spread those infectious smiles.

BlueBelle Mon 15-Jul-19 08:07:20

B9 I ve lived in very poor third world countries and the people are a joy to be round laughter, dancing and singing and not a moan in sight. This country has become one BIG moan everyone moans but hey ho weve got to hunt for something good to say in this thread
I m wondering if growstuff really meant her post
of course UK is a good place to leave .... Freudian slip maybe ???? however the rest of your post I totally agree with strange how people don’t recognise the good when they have it the grass is rarely greener

Anywhere here’s my positive, I love my beach, it’s a cracker
