Looking at the figures, it seems very likely that Trump has won a second term. How that will affect the world remains to be seen.?

Lollypolly Wed 04-Nov-20 10:35:18

I think Biden will win. Trump already claiming he should have won. Keeping my fingers crossed for Biden.

I find it very alarming that Trump wants to stop counting the votes now. Feels like the definition of the end of democracy to me.

Acciaccatura Wed 04-Nov-20 10:44:06

Kinsi10: I agree with you about the lack of trade deal with Biden. So, no trade or Trump? Hmmm. Sounds like a lose lose situation ?

darbycall Wed 04-Nov-20 10:45:36

waking up to the worst day of my life.

Notright Wed 04-Nov-20 10:48:20

They're just about half way through, so be positive.

maddyone Wed 04-Nov-20 10:53:33

It’s looking very close. Trump has even said if he loses he going to the Supreme Court, as Smileless said up thread. I’ve don’t think I’ve ever before taken as much notice of an American election, although perhaps when Obama was elected, I was really pleased.

leeds22 Wed 04-Nov-20 10:54:01

I worry that if Trump wins Boris will hold out for a crummy trade deal with the US. If Biden wins, hopefully it will concentrate minds to get an EU deal.

There has been a lot about postal voting fraud in the past in the press in Derby. Someone was jailed for abusing their position as a polling clerk by letting family members impersonate others. I expect that there will be reports from elsewhere, too

maddyone Wed 04-Nov-20 10:57:18

darbycall Are you American? Just think what a bad day it is for millions of Americans.

My husband’s first cousin lives in America and she supports Trump. She puts lots of stuff on Facebook supporting him. As she’s a close relation to my husband I don’t engage with any of it, just scroll past. I’ve really no idea why she likes him so much.

Kandinsky

He’ll win.
I know it’s hard to believe ( to many left wingers on here ) but millions of Americans love him. Just like millions of people here love Nigel Farage.

If 'millions of people love Nigel Farage', why can't he or any of the numerous political parties he's founded win any Parliamentary seats?

Just sayin'... hmm

Sarnia Wed 04-Nov-20 11:01:55

I wouldn't say it was over yet. I can't believe how a country the size of the USA can only offer up the likes of Trump and Biden to be President. The present situation with the voting shows a very divided country. There are 2 very inspirational women coming up through the ranks. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar who have both ruffled quite a few feathers are ladies to watch. The USA and the world deserve better than the 2 candidates running today.

tanith Wed 04-Nov-20 11:06:19

‘The fat lady’ hasn’t sung yet, hold your horses ???

Nanniejc1 Wed 04-Nov-20 11:09:29

It’s really not up to us ,it’s the American people who will chose & millions of them love President Trump. Its rather worrying that Biden is too old & forgetful, surely a great country like the USA must have younger ,brighter people who could do the job?Im being selfish but hoping Trump does win because Biden won’t give us a good trade deal after Brexit.By the way lots of British people back Nigel Farage too, without him we wouldn’t have a Brexit at all.

Kandinsky Wed 04-Nov-20 11:12:00

Well,
You could say Nigel Farage delivered Brexit, because if it wasn’t for UKIP & NF in particular, we wouldn’t be leaving the EU.
The tortes just took his ball & ran with it.
They could see how many votes he was taking from the 2 main parties.
So yes, Nigel Farage single handedly changed this country’s future - he didn’t need to ‘win’ elections - he just needed to stir the pot enough.

maddyone Wed 04-Nov-20 11:16:36

I also wondered how a country the size of America can only come up with these two.

Candelle Wed 04-Nov-20 11:18:12

Absolutely agree, Kandinsky.

Grandma70s Wed 04-Nov-20 11:20:32

“Without him we wouldn’t have a Brexit at all”. Quite, which is one of many reasons I loathe Farage.

westendgirl Wed 04-Nov-20 11:23:37

It is sad that America is such a divided country.

I find it difficult to understand how anyone could think Trump was a good idea, but then we have people here who thought Johnson was a good idea.

red1 Wed 04-Nov-20 11:27:31

i cannot seeeing any good coming if trump wins.more division, a possible war with some country?
It is a sad reflection on the human condition if he wins.
Why do Psychopaths in power keep getting away with the same old tricks?

Grannynannywanny Wed 04-Nov-20 11:30:59

I would hate to have to choose between Trump and Biden. There’s absolutely no way I’d vote for Trump but Biden doesn’t fill me with confidence. He appears to be past his sell by date. Trump didn’t have a sell by date, he’s been rotten to the core from the start.

Hetty58 Wed 04-Nov-20 11:33:06

lemongrove, I do hope you're wrong, but it's interesting that so many Latinos vote for Trump:

Struggling2do1

Then in four more years Trump junior will take over. We may be watching a dictatorship in the making. A disaster for the free world ?.

OMG - that awful prospect had not even crossed my mind, but now you've mentioned it, it seems such a realistic scenario!

As if I wasn't feeling bad enough before. sad

Aepgirl Wed 04-Nov-20 11:45:05

I have a very good American friend who I thought was super intelligent, but she thinks Trump is wonderful.

I think if Trump loses he will barricade himself in the White House and refuse to leave!

bjane02 Wed 04-Nov-20 11:56:56

They still have to count mail in ballots and those are leaning towards Biden. That’s why Trump wants to stop the counting.

Last time around Trump lost the majority vote in the US but he won the electoral college. It’s a backwards system.

People love Trump because he’s tapped into the religious community. They don’t like the way the world is changing and want to holdfast to old beliefs. But that includes biased bigoted ideas. He’s extremely manipulative and people believe his BS. Confirmation bias kicks in and people won’t accept the truth about who Trump is. Unfortunately people in the US are gullible.

I hold out hope for the mail in ballots to win this election for Biden.

DH said to me 4 years ago that Trump is setting up a dynasty.
