I thought that is what most women do with their OHs! How many men in their late 70's would be capable physically or mentally to do the job of President? He also manages his stutter remarkably well although of course, there are always people ready to make fun when he has a slip. I sometimes think we live in a pretty vile world. who on earth would choose to be in the public eye? I certainly wouldn't!

I wholly agree, smart, assured,business-like, unassuming. She looked as if she was a professional very measured. Both she and her husband are Dr's but do we know it she never insists on the Dr Leyden title and she has about 5 of a family. she must be one organised woman.

Sodapop you are right. Ursula VDL was apparently deployed to the European Commission by an exasperated Angela Merkel! She does look smart but please don’t add ‘for her age’!

Jill Biden didn’t look quite as smart in the photos of them meeting the Queen at Windsor before having tea.

Her jacket looked a bit snug, being fastened up made it ‘pull’ rather.

Joe looked very dapper though.

The Queen looked dressed appropriately for hosting a tea party for a President.

Mary Beard is a star for her knowledge, not for her dress sense. I admire her for wearing what she likes and am disappointed that other women are criticising her for it. I have zero interest in the outfits of anyone - famous or otherwise - I think its incredibly shallow that we are STILL talking about women's outfits in the 21st century! Can we PLEASE celebrate women such as Jill Biden and Mary Beard for their achievements and not what they look like!

Oh I agree about the vertiginous heels FannyC - even Duchess of Cambridge (who IMO is plenty tall enough) and of course Melania Trump. My heart was often in my mouth when I saw the D of C coming down eg aircraft steps in heels carrying whichever baby or toddler she had and not holding on !

Totally agree. When I was at school we had a teacher who looked very much like Mary Beard. She'd sweep in and then manage to make the most ardent maths haters, love the subject. Everyone loved her. Who cared what she looked like? We knew she was our favourite teacher and even now when old school chums have a get together we all say she was our our fave.

Agree Fanny slimness, youthfulness, fitness and extremely high heels are always mentioned and admired!

Slimness, youthfulness and fitness imply that you look after your body.
We all know that looking after your body doesn’t always achieve the first two. My younger sister has always been slimmer than me, without any effort, but folk say I look younger. ??
Fitness is a good dose of ‘no health problems + use it or lose it + effort + , if you can afford it, gym membership or a personal trainer.’
Knowing that people would make comments about my appearance,
if I was the wife of a famous person, I would have a trainer and a keep fit routine but my sister would still be slimmer!

The odd thing is that skinny women, after the age of 40 or 45, tend to look older than those of the same age who are average size or even slightly plump.

Jill Biden is not skinny and does look good for her age.
