Some wagg commented that they should start a go fund me page to get to Geological Society to identify Rees Moggs back garden as the ideal place to start fracking. In fact I believe that Somerset does have some possibilities. The article is really shocking.

Rees-Mogg has said he'd be happy to have fracking in his back garden, especially as money will be paid to those who allow it on their land.

I live very near his back garden. Fracking here would pose risk to the reservoir which supplies most of Bristol's water supply and also potentially compromise the sources of the spring which takes water into Bath Spa.

To say he would allow fracking in his back garden is irresponsible and demonstrates any regard for the impact it would have on the country.

demonstrates NO regard

I assume once they lose the whip they become independents, so their letter calling for the PMs resignation is discounted when they are counting the letters to decide when to act. This is what I read on Sky News about William Wragg MP.

‘Mr Wragg said he would not risk voting against Labour's proposed fracking ban as he did not want to lose the whip - and therefore invalidate his letter of no confidence in Ms Truss.
"I wish to maintain that letter," he told the Commons.
It is unclear when the letter was first lodged with Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbench MPs.
Conservative MPs are under no obligation to declare publicly that they have submitted a letter of no confidence in their leader.’.
I guess it depends now on how many MPs will be brave and stand up for their principles, which will risk the government but help their own reputations.

Apparently tonight's fracking bill is a "vote of confidence " in the government.

Bring it on!

If 30+ Tories rebel she’s finished and there will be an election.

It ain’t going to happen is it, we won’t be that lucky.

The Tory MPs have been reduced to a mixture of ultra right wing idealogues and career politicians like LIz Truss who believe in nothing but are motivated by self promotion.

MayBee70 Wed 19-Oct-22 19:04:06

We can’t go on like this. I’ve never known anything like it.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Oct-22 19:16:23

Oh

Jess Phillips MP

@jessphillips
Massive Tory row going on in the lobby, literally trying to force people through. Lots of anger

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Oct-22 19:20:50

Chief whip has resigned??!!

MayBee70 Wed 19-Oct-22 19:21:03

Am I right in thinking that Tobias Ellwood had the whip taken from him when there was a key vote and he wasn’t in the country so will Boris Johnson lose the whip tonight?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Oct-22 19:23:38

Mirror reporting that two whips have gone

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Oct-22 19:28:32

Someone reporting that Tory whips manhandled a crying Tory mp into the lobby.

Kettling going on

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Oct-22 19:29:44

SNP didn’t vote which is why the margin was so big.

I’ve never seen scenes like it at the entrance to a voting lobby. Tories on open warfare. Jostling and Rees Mogg shouting at his colleagues. Whips screaming at Tories.
They are done and should call a general election.
Two Tory whips dragging people in. Shocking.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Oct-22 19:35:13

Health Secretary shoved people through

Just watched the Deputy Prime Minister practically pick up a hesitant Tory MP and march him into the Government lobby. Astonishing.

Blossoming Wed 19-Oct-22 19:43:35

Resignations all over the place.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Oct-22 19:56:13

Truss didn’t vote. But rumour that Truss fired the chief whip in the division lobby.

Good grief?

Namsnanny Wed 19-Oct-22 19:59:52

Which way did the vote go?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Oct-22 20:01:25

Namsnanny

Which way did the vote go?

The government won, but now they are saying that the numbers are not adding up.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Oct-22 20:03:31

Namsnanny

Which way did the vote go?

And in effect the Tories just voted against their manifesto

Namsnanny Wed 19-Oct-22 20:09:13

SNP dont vote on English matters ...EVEL ! They didn't even before Cameron came out with that gem the day after the refeendum in 2014,
There will be no fracking in Scotland while we still have our parliament or after Independence.Despite what a tory said on TV ...we dont want it ,even in the northern reaches of Scotland.

varian Wed 19-Oct-22 20:29:57

The Tory chief whip and her deputy have both resigned
