Twice bloody twice, she said "the proof is in the pudding".

The phrase, as evry fule nos, (sic) is "The proof of the pudding is in the eating"!

Why do so many people get this wrong?

Love Kirsty/Kirstie, she's the reason my kitchen is fitted out with drawers instead of cupboards. Life changing! (Okay perhaps a tad dramatic but it did make a huge difference.) She can say anything she likes about pudding, I'll share it with her.

Isn't Bedales rather non-conformist, nurturing individuality and initiative?

Does that include re-writing the old sayings and proverbs?

PECS Thu 10-Jan-19 22:18:47

Well it seems her parents wasted a lot of money then if people feel she had no edukashun!

She attended Bedales one of the more expensive boarding schools! shock

80% proof alcohol could kill off any bugs!

BradfordLass72 Thu 10-Jan-19 20:35:21

Prove, originally meant 'to test' (from the Old French - oooh posh! smile) just as we 'prove' bread, to make sure the yeast is good.
Pudding was a mixture of meat, fruit and spices, a bit like a sausage and sometimes the meat was off.

Jalima1108 Thu 10-Jan-19 19:57:44

Ooh, I had you down as a secret tippler of 80% proof brandy grin

GreenGran78 Thu 10-Jan-19 16:03:09

The proof is in the Christmas pudding. A nice tot of 80% proof brandy!
Have you noticed how comical the word 'proof' seems after you have read/said it a few times?

craftergran Thu 10-Jan-19 13:42:41

Grammaretto Thu 10-Jan-19 13:13:01

The pin!! Aha I didn't know that. It makes more sense than penny.
Thanks for the gems on here.
I find I come out with proverbs and sayings more often as I get older and turn into my mother grandmother
We host international visitors and ask them if they have similar sayings in their own languages. They often do.

ecci53 Thu 10-Jan-19 12:52:51

I get annoyed when I see 'it' s a doggy dog world'. Why can't people get it right?

Nonnie Thu 10-Jan-19 12:48:16

'Money is the root of all evil'. Sorry, couldn't resist.

I shout at newsreaders for spouting rubbish. What is the world coming to when even the beeb can't speak proper English like wat I do?

Jalima1108 Thu 10-Jan-19 12:38:21

I do say both SueDoku blush although I know that the original is 'pin'.
