Cat food shortage

There seems to be a cat food shortage.

Online shopping at Tesco has a lot of cat food not available.

I remember seeing news items about this some time ago.

It seems to be getting worse.

Yes there's a shortage due to the extra demand. So many more pets were bought in lockdown.

I was told in Waitrose that it's a shortage of packaging materials.

Yes, I think it's mainly the pouches?

We order in bulk from an online pet food and supplies company. They're very quick , efficient and much cheaper than in supermarkets. Convenient to have it delivered straight here.

Amazon have a lot of cat food in stock if you are in need.

I've not had a problem with getting Felix from Sainsbury's.

I think Amazon is a bit pricy. I get my from a pet shop on line they deliver very quickly and free delivery.

I buy mine from Zooplus and found all varieties of the prescription food that I buy is out of stock. I have never found this before!

Same as me I buy from zooplus and my cats tuna food is sold out also on other online shops too. It happened before at the begining of covid. Its a pain because my cat wont eat anything else

I think some come from Europe so probably delays due to Brexit.

I've never had a problem with getting cat food, and I've used Asda, Amazon and Morrisons, all ok.

I'm still having problems getting hold of Felix fish in jelly pouches. If this carries on much longer, moggies are going to get a taste for sardines for humans and fresh chicken.

I found that too- just after we adopted our new cat, so have more times than once used companies such as Amazon, Zooplus and Petshop UK online and occasionally Pets at Home, Vio Vet and Vet UK.
You can usually but bulk boxes from all of them (sometimes 100 pouches plus in a case) and they will deliver to your home, sometimes for free, according to how much you spend.
They also have things such as sacks of cat litter as well as toys or treats.

My cat is a repossessed stray. He was initially rescued by a friend who couldn't keep him as she has two dogs who see cats as prey.
My previous beloved old cat had died a couple of months previously.
Current cat is a voracious eater, and even though I've wormed and flea'd him, two months' on, he's still vacuuming up one and a half large tins of Felix and the dry equivalent of James Wellbeloved Senior Turkey Biscuits.
He's a large cat - in Imperial measurements, a yard long and just over a stone in weight.
When he arrived, he was very bony: spineous processes and ribs very prominent.
A steady re-feeding programme has improved this, but I wonder if he will ever feel confident of always having food available when he needs it.
I'm making sure that I always have a couple of full trays of meat available in case of shortages. Also a couple of bags of dry food.
He costs more to feed than my elderly purebred Arabian horse, and he's 16hh!
