Has anyone else seen the red sun? It's very odd to see it high in the sky. Apparently sand from the Sahara in the atmosphere and the effects of fires in Spain and Portugal.

It's too cloudy here shame .

lemongrove Mon 16-Oct-17 14:27:36

I will nip outside and take a pic, it’s orange here!

lemongrove Mon 16-Oct-17 14:30:53

Didn’t come out very well?

Greyduster Mon 16-Oct-17 14:34:52

We saw that in the car this morning, and the fact that the light had a very luminous, lemony tinge. Still has to some extent but the wind is getting up now.

Very windy here in Herts, now, and the sun looking red through a hazy sky. According to the weather on BBC, the wind will ease by teatime, here.

ginny Mon 16-Oct-17 14:49:22

Yes, I saw it. Clouded over now but the daylight has a red tinge to it.

tanith Mon 16-Oct-17 14:53:03

Sky is looking orangey strange atmousephere too.

Grannyknot Mon 16-Oct-17 14:58:35

I saw it and thought "How weird"! It looked like a red moon. I'm in London.

Glasgow here, this morning I had the lights on as it was more like dusk than morning but eventually, this afternoon it brightened up. We have the storm to look forward to much later today. I do hope there is not too much destruction.

emmasnan Mon 16-Oct-17 15:10:54

Very windy here in Dorset but dry and bright now.

ninathenana Mon 16-Oct-17 15:20:17

Warm and windy and grey sky in Kent. Took this just now, the birds have all disappeared.

Baggs Mon 16-Oct-17 15:21:51

I saw it at noon and I'm ever so pleased with myself for guessing the reason for its redness ?

BlueBelle Mon 16-Oct-17 15:27:46

Grey and dull here but a strange orange halo around it

Squiffy Mon 16-Oct-17 15:28:02

Driving up from Southampton we noticed that, as well as weird sky, there were no birds flying until we got to the Arundel area. Even in Southampton docks there were only a couple of seagulls - it felt quite eerie! Going through Sussex the sky suddenly went strange as well. Reminded us of the atmosphere during the total eclipse.

GrandmaMoira Mon 16-Oct-17 15:30:28

The orange/red sun has gone now and it is very dark and windy here in London, though there is still a strange glow about the sky.

JessM Mon 16-Oct-17 15:50:42

Spotted at 10am in N Wales. Along with incredibly warm wind and a funny smell in the air. Thought it was dust from Sahara but alternative theory is that the serious fires in Portugal are causing the dust in the atmosphere that brings with it the eerie glow.

overthehill Mon 16-Oct-17 16:03:43

Yes here in London about an hour ago but now have a sky with a dark peculiar oppressive light hardly light at all it's like night time. A sort of sepia haze most strange.

Nandalot Mon 16-Oct-17 16:11:45

Yes it’s very eerie. Brighter here now.

Pittcity Mon 16-Oct-17 16:14:43

Same here in North Essex. The birds have gone to roost and the dogs are howling. It's oppressively humid as well as dark.

M0nica Mon 16-Oct-17 16:16:23

The fascinating thing is how quickly it cleared. One moment there was a great red sun in the sky making everything look apocolyptic, 5 minutes later, the cloud had cleared the sky was blue and the sun was shining as normal.

Nannacat Mon 16-Oct-17 16:23:56

Wasn't it beautiful . Now there is a golden glow it's quiet eerie perfect Halloween evening.

ninathenana Mon 16-Oct-17 16:31:08

Not cleared here still total grey/orange/yellow sky. Can't see the sun anymore.

MawBroon Mon 16-Oct-17 16:45:54

“Sand from the Sahara” might explain the coating of beige dust on my black car this afternoon. I had been blaming someone for stone grinding or patio laying !

grumppa Mon 16-Oct-17 17:25:59

It reminded me of those famous lines:-

"Earth has no heat, and the congealéd sun
Swims like a frozen orange in the sky..."

Anyone recognise the source?
