I have realised that they, sadly, are going to be there.
BUT is it necessary to have the ones that jig about in the corner of your eye and are so distracting????
What do others think?

Adverts? Do we get any? confused

j07 Sat 02-Feb-13 13:06:28

I'm wondering if I've got some sort of ad blocker that I don't know about.

I like adverts. sad

Well, there was some thread a few moments ago about free sport tv. I reported it and it seems to have vanished! Not even a 'thread deleted'
Perhaps I imagined it?

jeni Sat 02-Feb-13 13:12:34

Ah just had an email from GNHQ saying gone!

Mishap Sat 02-Feb-13 13:14:33

Shh...don't tell the advertisers....I don't notice them!!!

Movedalot Sat 02-Feb-13 13:23:08

They pay for the running costs of Gransnet so of course we all read them in great detail and find them fascinating. grin

Ana Sat 02-Feb-13 13:25:55

And we buy their stuff! grin

AlieOxon Sat 02-Feb-13 13:26:46

Absolutely.
?
it's just that the moving and flashing ones do my eyes in!

janeainsworth Sat 02-Feb-13 13:28:23

Alie the only advert I see on GN is for the Mumsnet Academy.
If you're getting loads of others, it may be that you have a lot of cookies on your computer - you can get rid of them like this

Elegran Sat 02-Feb-13 13:32:55

I think all the free gifts and competitions and so on are sponsored by businesses who see it as painless advertising. Could be wrong.

It works better than a flashing jumping ad on the page giving us migraines.

j07 Sat 02-Feb-13 13:35:49

Tell me if they're there! Please!

I'm getting paranoid here. (I only see the Mumsnet Academy one)

jeni not the sneaky smuggled in ones.

soop Sat 02-Feb-13 14:03:47

...all that I have is Mumsnet Academy. Don't even want that! hmm

AlieOxon Sat 02-Feb-13 14:08:17

I've got IE9 and it's different. I tried Tools and finally found stuff in Cache, but they are still there.
However I can hide them if I make the text really BIG.....

AlieOxon Sat 02-Feb-13 14:08:40

I'd better investigate online?

AlieOxon Sat 02-Feb-13 14:12:21

I was answering someone here, but it seems to have gone????

j07 Sat 02-Feb-13 14:15:56

I get cookies on other websites but not on gransnet.

HI h YurI

annodomini Sat 02-Feb-13 14:22:30

Google has an ad blocking facility which works.

j07 Sat 02-Feb-13 14:27:18

Sorry for strange bit on last post. Am on kindle fire and its goes a bit odd sometimes.lO

j07 Sat 02-Feb-13 14:31:11

I reported that one too jeni

AlieOxon Sat 02-Feb-13 15:07:18

Found it. IE9 has a popup blocker under 'Find' at the bottom of the page.
I think that's done it.

AlieOxon Sat 02-Feb-13 15:08:10

Oh no it hasn't. they are there again...!!!

AlieOxon Sat 02-Feb-13 15:09:29

and gone again. I don't get this.

j07 Sat 02-Feb-13 16:54:48

You don't get cookies on gransnet. Don't know what you are seeing Alie confused

AlieOxon Sat 02-Feb-13 17:11:33

Below the 'on the forums' bit I have a square ad (just now - it varies)with phones bouncing all over it.

But not being annoyed by it, as I have the text so big it isn't visible.
