Are we trapped for ever and ever? I know it is simple not to log in and not to post- but I would prefer to have my account deleted- so I am not tempted to look in and comment. Surely it is against Human Rights to not be allowed to request to be deleted.

Officially?

lemongrove Mon 09-Mar-20 19:11:39

Use ‘contact Gransnet’ and ask them to delete your account.

paddyanne Mon 09-Mar-20 19:12:16

just msg them and tell them you want to leave they'll take your details off their files

Firecracker123 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:13:06

Here we go again lol.

Smileless2012 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:13:17

I think lemongrove's right and that's all you need to do.

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:17:03

Firecracker ''Here we go again lol.'' - exactly- would like to be done with GN once and for all- and ot have temptation to come back. Waste of time and energy.

I've tried the above- did not work.

You've just got to grit your teeth and go cold turkey! No sneaky peeks "just to see if there is anything interesting being discussed".

Jura2
As someone who professes they 'want to leave' you made a pretty good fist with contributing to the Meghan and Harry thread not so long ago today.

Ellianne Mon 09-Mar-20 19:25:59

Don't leave Jura. I enjoy your interesting posts from your part of the world.

Chewbacca Mon 09-Mar-20 19:26:05

grin

Smileless2012 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:29:20

Well it must be possible as there have been GN's who've been banned by GNHQ so if you ask them, why can't they implement the same process?

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:29:50

Yes Meryl- my point entirely. It is a waste of time and energy, and serves absolutely no purpose. So I am admitting to a lack of willpower- and when bored, a tendancy to return to GN. I would like this temptation to be taken away from me. For my sanity- and some of yours. lol. What is the point?!?

NotSpaghetti Mon 09-Mar-20 19:30:11

Just read this:

How can I delete my account? I f you log in to My Gransnet you can delete your account from there. This will delete: email, password and, if provided, first name, last name, postcode, date of birth, grandchildren's names, gender and dates of birth, your gender, registration IP, private messages sent.

And here is the GDPR info:
www.gransnet.com/info/privacy-policy-faqs

I have had myself totally removed from elsewhere by contacting them and saying that I want a total removal according to my rights under GDPR regulations.
Even Bannatyne's removed me eventually but it dad take a while.

NotSpaghetti Mon 09-Mar-20 19:30:56

*did take a while.

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:32:22

Most of the banned have come back under another name. I would never do that- it is dishonest and as Etiquette clearly says, leads to breakdown of trust. Some people here have had so many names- and it can take quite a while to cotton on. This question of trust is primordial here - especially when you have met people, or they know a lot of personal detail about you.

Chewbacca Mon 09-Mar-20 19:33:41

Is this goodbye or au revoir?

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:34:29

Etiquette is clear on the subject ''Username-changing

We discourage members from changing their usernames because we want everyone to be able to trust the relationships they build with others on Gransnet. However, you will be able to change your username once for sensitive threads. Alternatively, contact us directly at [email protected] if you think your current username is too identifying.''

and yet GN breaks the rules on a regular basis- and know that some people have changed names more than once. I would never do this as I totally agree with Etiquette re trust issues.

Cunco Mon 09-Mar-20 19:34:38

Some years ago, I closed the account I had at the time. As NotSpaghetti has pointed out, the instructions are available in My Gransnet. It is relatively easy and irrevocable.

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:35:05

I would like it to be Adieu - in fact.

jura2 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:35:58

Not irrevocable is you are back here under a different name - against GN rules, surely ;)

Chewbacca Mon 09-Mar-20 19:39:09

Is it that someone has changed their name without letting you know jura? Is that what's irked you? What's upset you?

lemongrove Mon 09-Mar-20 19:40:41

Are you actually leaving jura2 ??

Baggs Mon 09-Mar-20 19:42:05

You are in control of your adieux, jura. Nobody will stop you if you want to leave GN. And, as you say, whether you leave for good or not is down to your willpower.

So this thread smacks of attention-seeking.

Baggs Mon 09-Mar-20 19:44:20

Most of the banned have come back under another name

I'd love to know how people know this. If it's true I can't say I've noticed.
