We know that for many gransnetters, the school run doesn’t end when your own children are all grown up, and that many of you have the opportunity to pick grandchildren up from school on a regular or ad hoc basis. Between getting home from school and dinner time, grandchildren often get peckish and as a grandparent you probably want to treat them, but also don’t want to get into trouble with their parents for giving them unhealthy snacks. Soreen would like to find out what healthier treats you give to your grandchildren after school.

Here’s what Soreen has to say: “We know how hard it is to find a snack that’s both nutritious and tasty, but Soreen Lunchbox Loaves strike that perfect balance. Available in Malt and Banana flavour with a satisfyingly squidgy texture, Lunchbox Loaves are individually wrapped, low in fat, contain only 95 calories and provide a source of fibre. Perfect for an after school treat.”

So how to do you ‘treat’ your grandchildren after school? Do you do some baking as a fun activity and maybe sneak some hidden veg into the brownie mix? Or perhaps you make ice lollies in the summer out of juice and fruit?

Please share the heathier treats that you give to your grandchildren after school and you will be entered into a prize draw where one GNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thank you and good luck!

I bake oaty flapjack bars and cram in as much good stuff as I can like dried fruit, oats and nuts. They love to help make them and for an extra special treat I sometimes half dip them in some chocolate.

My 1 year old grandaughter will eat anything, she just loves food. My 5 year old grandson however is very fussy, he always wants 'Grandmas cheesy pasta' followed by fruit and yoghurt. He does love Soreen though and has that for breakfast and snacks, but he calls it 'Doreen' as me and his grandad always chant 'where's the Soreen Doreen?'

When I was small my Nan used to meet me out of school and on nice days would take me through the next door park and we d have a little picnic just a sandwich and a few biscuits while we sat in a little concrete shetter that we nickname The Wendy House the sun would pour in I grew up left home moved around and ended up living in a few different areas in the world When I got older and divorced I came back to my home town Then I started getting grandchildren by the time I retired I had seven grandkids but they all lived overseas in various parts of the world Very very sadly two grandchildren s Daddy died and their mum my eldest came back to her hometown The two started school at my old school The lovely park was still there but not the pretty Wendy House however on sunny days when I met them out of school I would take them to the park and buy them an ice cream. Life is truely a circle ...
Now they are teenagers and I don't see so much of them won't it be wonderful if I live to see great grandkids that I can walk round the park on a sunny day x

We all love Soreen. Really. some of us have butter & others don't. They come home hungry from school & have some tea, then go on their Scooters for a trip to the Playground.

We sometimes stop at a local café for a hot chocolate or a pastry.

In our house it's cheese and fruit. My grandchildren are not big sweet eaters and neither am I so I don't often have anything sweet in the house. Although I am quite partial to a malt loaf. I don't buy it very often as I'm the only one who eats it.

Although I am a member of Gransnet, by grandchildren are not yet born, so I read the forums out of interest only.

I treat them by giving of my time and attention and not plonking them in front of the TV

Sappysar Sun 19-Mar-17 15:14:26

We love baking cookies or crafting after school.

My grandaughter loves fruit so i usually have made up some boxes of fruitmix which she has when she comes round. I make these up with a variety of fruit and keep in the fridge

bobble5366 Mon 27-Mar-17 11:53:16

we make cornflake, dried banana and raisin buns in the winter, they love the mixing and putting mixture into muffin holders with a lolly stick in the middle (no choccy fingers) and in summer we make fromage frais and fruit lollys, keeps them busy making, and my daughter is impressed when I can get fruit down them, love our granny time together after school.

Now in Summer the wonderful treat is homemade ice cream, any flavour I or they can invent as long as it does not have chemicals.
The most "requested" is avocado, even though it is a more "adult" it is imperative to to make it.
