I have posted about this before, when i decided to try regains for hair loss
I wonder how long anyone who used it saw results
I have been using this for about 8 months now and no difference,
Do i carry on ?or give it up,as it is quite expensive?
Also is there any difference in the names Regaine and Minoxidil, i assumed it was the same thing
TIA

That's very true May. It's horrible.

MissAdventure Wed 14-Jul-21 17:38:16

The same for me.
My hair has never been my crowning glory, but it's awful seeing more and more partings appearing all over my head.
I imagined wearing a variety of wigs might be fun, but watching online, people glueing them on, etc is miserable.

I’ve had thin hair all of my life so it didn’t come as a surprise to see it get much worse in my 60’s.In retrospect it wasn’t as bad throughout my life as I felt it was. Ok it was thinner than most people’s hair but it was still hair. My hairdresser has always wanted to cut it really short but it was so fine and fly away that it was better held together in a band. Over the years the elastic band got smaller and smaller. I can’t believe I once had enough hair to put in a scrunchy. I actually would like to have it cut very short now but don’t want to have to go to the hairdressers every few weeks due to cost and the pandemic. I don’t think many people understand how miserable it is having horrible hair or not hair. I know there are far worse things that can happen to someone but that doesn’t stop me feeling fed up.

Yes I agree. A woman doctor advised me to 'get a wig'. I accepted it all. I should have kicked up more if a fuss.

MissAdventure Wed 14-Jul-21 16:23:54

I particularly hate those "journeys" that one wasn't planning to go on!

I have found something strange, too.
If you tell people you're balding, they seem quite affronted and at pains to tell you it's normal, and because of the menopause, or stress, and that they're thinning too but not making a fuss

Thank you Miss A. It's been a long and difficult 'journey' as they say these days. Doctors, blood tests, trawling around hairdressers in my lunch hour. I was given remedies. Some of these were cherry juice, cider vinegar, rubbing an onion on my scalp, you name it, I tried it. I have this solution now. It's not ideal as I would rather have my hair but it's not going to happen. I'm sure these days there must be something for partial hair loss. Some clients at my salon have laser treatment which works for some, but not all. I had no help from anywhere.

MissAdventure Wed 14-Jul-21 16:07:00

I can imagine!
I expect it's more cost effective to just keep to your hair system and have it maintained regularly.
I wonder if there is similar for people who have "just" thinning?
Yours looks so good, Kate.

Kate1949 Wed 14-Jul-21 16:00:49

Oh yes it's expensive alright. I've spent thousands.

MissAdventure Wed 14-Jul-21 15:55:01

Well, bear with me, because I've been looking at videos on how to dye/tone down, and change the colours of wigs.
Shame I didn't look before buggering up my topper. blush
I can see that going bald is going to be an expensive business.
My bathroom is starting to look like a pharmacy.

blondenana Wed 14-Jul-21 10:41:47

MissAdventure i also bought topper which was too yellow, more a gold colour, my hair is light blonde,
I have looked at a lot of websites but not seen any my colour

No dragonfly As explained above, it's not a wig.

dragonfly46 Tue 13-Jul-21 16:07:31

Kate your hair looks really good - what is your system? Is it a wig. When I wore a wig I forgot half the time and treated it like a hat. I kept pulling it down!

Kate1949 Tue 13-Jul-21 16:07:15

MissA Unfortunately it's a bit complicated! I go to a place here in Birmingham. They are wonderful people. I was terrified at first but they are SO lovely, kind and understanding. It is real hair on a sort of second scalp. They glue it on which was daunting but it's fine. It wouldn't come off in a gale! I can wash it, curl it, straighten it just like my own hair. It's not hot. You don't know it's there. I go every 6 weeks to have it taken off and my scalp conditioned. I'm not sure it would work for partial hair loss but they always do what they can. Obviously you have to pay but I have managed. In over ten years I"ve been going, they have never raised my costs. It has to be replaced about three times a year and unfortunately there are struggling to get supplies during the pandemic. They have saved my life. Literally.

MayBee70 Tue 13-Jul-21 16:02:29

It looks so natural.

MissAdventure Tue 13-Jul-21 15:54:18

Wow, Kate1949, that looks really good.
Very much like my hair used to look.
What is a hair system, please?

Kate1949 Tue 13-Jul-21 15:52:39

It's usually thicker than that and presently I have a thicker fringe.

MissAdventure Tue 13-Jul-21 15:52:26

That's a huge issue for me.
I sweat like a pig profusely at the best of times.
The thought of it makes me depressed.

Kate1949 Tue 13-Jul-21 15:51:32

For anyone who is remotely interested, this is my hair system. I have total alopecia.

MayBee70 Tue 13-Jul-21 15:49:37

Now that I’m avoiding hairdressers due to the pandemic I don’t feel so bad about wearing wigs in public because I feel I have another reason to wear one. I know that sounds silly. Not that I’m going anywhere but when it might feel safe to do so I might being the same mindset. I get so hot wearing one, though.

MissAdventure Tue 13-Jul-21 15:18:00

I've been watching YouTube videos, and people cut, colour and pluck synthetic wigs to make them look more realistic.
The wig shop here closed down, and I could really do with a trying on session.

MayBee70 Tue 13-Jul-21 15:15:38

I took my wig to my hairdresser to customise it and she made a complete mess of it. I don’t think synthetic ones are meant to be cut. My other hairdresser made it look better. I’ve still only worn it once in public. I only ever meant to wear it on the only occasion when I ever dressed up and that was on rare trips to the theatre and I never even got round to doing that!

MissAdventure Tue 13-Jul-21 15:09:27

I bought a topper, but it was too yellow.
I fiddled with it, got it all tangled up in knots, then threw it away. blush

blondenana Tue 13-Jul-21 14:31:29

I think i might do one day on and one day off,but i need to use more than you will, i look as if i have had a strip of hair pulled out at the back, luckily can cover it with hair from top,but that is getting thinner as well
I might still try a topper, but not seen any my colour,
I still wear my hat on a windy day in case my hair blows about

MayBee70 Mon 12-Jul-21 22:55:30

Not really. It’s just that my parting was getting wider and when my hair has grown a bit it just gets incredibly thin. But since I’ve used regaine I’ve still not gone bald on top. So I’m scared that if I stop I will lose it. I don’t always put it on every day, though.
