Wrap dresses

I’ve just read (Gransnet What to Wear for a Wedding), yet again, that wrap dresses suit everybody (or should that be every body?!).
I look absolutely dreadful in them - something to do with my 36 E boobs, perhaps?!
Any one else disagree with this universal recommendation?

Never
Liked wrap dresses
And my boobs are definitely not E !
I think they are often kind of dowdy.

Sparklefizz Sat 11-Jun-22 10:57:42

I think wrap dresses are frumpy.

I have a triangular shape with a protruding stomach..wrap dresses highlight every aspect of that. They certainly don't work for me.

Glad I'm not alone!

Never understood them. Any movement or the slightest breeze and your knickers are on show.

They always remind me of my mums pinny

NotSpaghetti Sat 11-Jun-22 11:06:45

They are NOT my go-to look!!

DerbyshireLass Sat 11-Jun-22 11:10:03

A no from me.

Kinsi10 Sat 11-Jun-22 11:14:48

No. as Meryl says above Mums pinny.

'The other style tip that annoys me is that 'black always looks good': it definitely doesn't suit me, which I knew before I had colour analysis done.

I like them! I’m a 34F. I do find that I need to put a brooch in the V as they always come to far down for me. But I have a short body. I find them flattering.

Yessss! That's why I find them frumpy!

BlueSapphire Sat 11-Jun-22 11:34:27

Don't suit me either - I am 5ft nothing with 38E boobs!

ExDancer Sat 11-Jun-22 11:36:21

They remind me of the wrap around pinnies my Nanna wore.

My daughter looks good in wrap dresses. She is 5' 7" and slim. I look awful in them. I'm 5' 3" and apple shaped.
These days I like to wear something floaty.

I have a midi length wrap dress that I wear in a variety of ways, but always over something. In summer it’s over a vest top or camisole and cycling shorts. In winter it’s over a long sleeved top, leggings and boots.

I am a dumpy, short woman and wrap dresses are not flattering tied either loosely or tightly.

Casdon Sat 11-Jun-22 14:16:18

I don’t think any one dress style suits everybody, wrap dresses included. I don’t like dresses at all, but a structured wrap dress would suit me okay. On the other hand I’d look awful in any dress with a round neck, or a boat neck because I’ve got broad shoulders and a small waist compared with bust and hip sizes and they look unbalanced on me. Take note Gransnet, we aren’t all the same.

lixy Sat 11-Jun-22 14:16:25

Oh!
I like wrap dresses, though I tend towards the type that have a wrap top and a fully sealed in skirt rather than the wrap skirt.

I'll think twice and have a good look in the mirror before I sling them on now!

Millie22 Sat 11-Jun-22 14:19:57

MiniMoon
Snap! I am the same and my daughter is also tall and slim so looks good in a wrap dress.

I just look like a sort of parcel ?

Rosina Sat 11-Jun-22 14:38:17

I bought a very pretty wrap dress two summers ago - mainly because I loved the colour. What a mistake - I have since had to put a couple of stitches in the bodice to hold that part of the wrap together for decencies sake, and another lower down to hold the skirt, as on one shaming occasion I had my bra and knickers on show in a strong breeze, and believe me that was NOT a good look. I should have remembered the very smart but similarly disastrous linen wrap skirts I bought some years ago when very slim - one white, one sludge green. They were so elegant - until I tried to walk about, or stay decent in a high wind.

Although I am not overweight and am modestly endowed, wrap dresses look awful on me, like Millie22 says I look like parcel, and an untidely wrapped one at that.

The only purpose the fashion advice by Gransnet serves is to know that any style they recommend is best avoided unless you want to look a total frump.

Visgir1 Sat 11-Jun-22 16:15:00

Instant turn off if it says "wrap dress"
Not for me.

Artaylar Sat 11-Jun-22 21:23:31

I'm petite with big boobs and find that wrap dresses suit me and downplay the boob bigness.

Now shift dresses - a totally different matter. I've always looked as though I'm about the start the washing up in them.
