Kindle stuck

Recharged my Kindle last night and horror of horrors found it had stuck and wouldn't do anything this morning. After a bit of Googling I did a hard reset by holding in the on/off button for 30 seconds. It went back to the original screen; I then plugged it into the computer with the USB lead and a bar appeared that slowly updated, then all was back to normal. Just thought I would share this in case it happens to anyone else.

That used to happen fairly often with my old one (the one I dropped and had to have replaced). It is really worrying. I did always manage to re-start it by a lot of holding the on/off button and clicking on various bits and pieces. It just seemd to require an extra bit of waking up! Very worrying. So far new one hasn't done it. Fingers crossed. smile

Mine did exactly the same on the train back from London one night - mega-frustration!! Put it on charge with no success and then looked at the trouble-shooting online and did what you have done and it worked holding in the on/off button for 20 secs to "reset" it. Nasty few moments there!

My iPad does the same thing sometimes. Can press Home button 100 times to no effect. Took it to the Apples shop, and of course it worked perfectly for the young man there!!! Touch wood its okay at the moment, but will try the above if it plays up again.

Mine also. I just reboot it and it's ok!

Do you loose all the books on it if you have to do a reset or does everything just start up again where you left off?

gracesmum Fri 09-Mar-12 21:45:11

All the books were still there and guess what? It jammed again today - so I did the same thing and it worked. Maybe I am becoming a techie?grin

I think you'd have quite a job to lose all your books. Amazon are pretty good at backing them up. They were all there waiting for me on my new one.

Mine hasn't given any problems [fingers crossed emoticom] but it is reassuring to know what to do if problems occur. My DIL's kindle failed - the screen was garbled and distorted, Amazon changed it (twice) without any problems

What I would really like to be able to do is delete the books I have read. My archive is getting quite full already, and I'm not going to want to read them again. Does anyone know how to do this?

Carol Sat 10-Mar-12 08:16:11

Me too, Ganja. It's irritating to have things piling up in the archive when you don't need them there. Any advice welcome.

Haven't got it with me, but as I recall you click on the title with one of the direction keys and you get remove from my Kindle or something similar.

eGJ Sat 10-Mar-12 10:12:06

I've just removed a book from my kindle; click on the title then use the left arrow key.....Remove from device ...........and off it flies!

Carol Sun 11-Mar-12 18:21:57

If I try to do that on mine, nothing happens - it remains in the archives. Must find out if my son knows what's going on.

Annobel Sun 11-Mar-12 19:10:18

If you want to delete a title from your archive, go to your Amazon account> Kindle record>Manage your Kindle> Your Kindle Library. On the right there is a button marked 'actions' click the button and choose the 'delete' option and this gets rid of the title for good.

Carol Sun 11-Mar-12 19:21:38

Annobel you're a star! That's sorted it out for me - thank you! flowers

Annobel Sun 11-Mar-12 20:02:26

Sorted a lot of dross out for me too, Carol. I looked at some of the titles of books I had allegedly read and just thought, 'WHAT?'

Carol Sun 11-Mar-12 20:17:22

I've just got rid of dictionaries in many different languages, a dozen books I have read and wanted deleted, and generally tidied the whole thing up to my satisfaction. Now I'm happy smile

[Annobel] thank you [so] much. What would I do without Gransnet? someone always seem to have the answer. Marvellous to clear out all the ones I've read, though I did keep one or two of the really good ones in case I break a leg and get time to read them again![Thanks]

Ganja Mon 12-Mar-12 08:46:54

Why don't my brackets work?

Carol Mon 12-Mar-12 08:48:00

Annobel Mon 12-Mar-12 09:00:01

Glad to be able to oblige, Ganja flowers. I have done the same.

eGJ Mon 12-Mar-12 17:14:29

I'd forgotten that one uses * for bold. Will try and get right in future.

My granddaughters kindle has the line underneath her name filled with a website which obscures the first line of anything she is reading. How do I clear it please? The web site says daily motion and I he this is not a virus or anything.
