Cruise canceled while in the Maldives without informing us

Our 50th Wedding Anniversary was on the 7th March.
I had a wonderful trip planned for us, a week in Egypt snorkeling then onto the Maldives again snorkeling.
On the 7th our anniversary we were to board a cruise ship in Male sailing from there for three weeks back to Europe disembarking in Venice.
While we were in the Maldives I contacted my daughter regarding the worsening situation in Italy with regard to the coronavirus asking her to contact the cruise line and our agent for an update.
On the 6th March my daughter informed us Costa were no longer docking in Male as the Port Authority were not allowing any cruise ships to dock.
We had had no communication from Costa or Cruise1st our agents with regard to this.
We couldn't stay longer at the hotel on the island as they were full and we didn't have time to make any arrangements as we were leaving the hotel the next day.
Our wonderful daughter took things in hand and paid for a flight back to the UK the following day, we actually had the last two seats.
If it hadn't been for our daughter we would have been waiting on the dock side with two suitcases wondering what had happened.
We can't believe any cruise line or agent could put their customers in such a precarious situation.

Did you contact Cruise First while in the Maldives?

I feel so sorry for the people who never managed to get a flight back.

My daughter contacted cruise 1st for us that was how we found out the cruise had been cancelled.
We were on an island with a poor signal it was impossible to phone cruise 1st ourselves.
Now we are back home I have contacted cruise 1st by e-mail as I have had no luck with phoning to get their comments.

Looking at their Facebook page it seems you are not the only one having trouble getting answers jeanie. A lot of people trying to find out from Costa if cruises are cancelled.
Cruise say they are working to contact customers of cancelled cruises in order of departure date.

Even if they couldn't get onto you direct (you say poor signal) they must of been able to phone the hotel, not good leaving you in the lurch like that.
Hope you get in touch with them, and your money refunded.

E-mail were getting through to me so no reason what so ever they couldn't have contacted us.

Our major problem was I couldn't use the Internet for booking accommodation with the poor signal or flights as the pages didn't download.
Since we arrived back in England each time I have tried to contact Cruise1st the line as dropped out after a few minutes. I have sent them an e-mail but no response.

I expect that they're overwhelmed with enquiries atm. Holidays are the least of our worries now, though.
