Funny how so many songs are in English but when it comes to the voting..........hmm

At least the Russian entry sounds like a SONG

Baubles' cake lady back again. #pinkfrock

j08 Sat 18-May-13 22:09:25

I might vote for Netherlands if I could reach the phone without getting up.

Tegan Sat 18-May-13 22:14:53

J; I LOVE that song; it's pure class and absolutely beautiful. Reminds me of the Iceland song that came second a few years back. Probably a bit early in the contest to win, though. Wish I'd backed Denmark when I was told to ages ago [think it'll win]. Also like Norway, Ireland [love a bit of bodrum drum, me] and that little Hungarian song.

merlotgran Sat 18-May-13 22:20:48

I missed the Netherlands but the clip I've just heard sounds good.

j08 Sat 18-May-13 22:26:14

I need to go back and watch it all again! grin

The cake lady is being quite funny now.

j08 Sat 18-May-13 22:28:22

She just said "the men don't have titties"! shock grin

Tegan Sat 18-May-13 22:29:15

I thought Bonnie Langford was doing our song. Got a bit confused when Bonnie Tyler came on. Don't know which one would have been worse [couldn't have been much worse]. Oh dear. Bet Greece [who seem to be getting a lot of votes] hope they don't win.

merlotgran Sat 18-May-13 22:42:05

If Greece win, how are they going to afford to host it next year?

Aka Sat 18-May-13 22:42:07

Romania...very weird! Very Eurovision! confused

j08 Sat 18-May-13 23:05:20

Oh well. Situation normal for us. hmm sad

Off to bed with Harold Fry. moon

ninathenana Sun 19-May-13 08:35:22

Just one question, how did you all sit through this drivell grin

We were watching M.I.3 on E4

sunseeker Sun 19-May-13 09:21:39

Haven't watched this for years - surely no-one believes the best song wins shock

Tegan Sun 19-May-13 09:48:14

Well, that's the strange thing. Even though there is so much tactical voting amongst the countries the best song does win. It's as if there will always be the same amount of reciprocol votes each year but the best song snatches votes from everyone and that tips the balance. Some years the standard of the songs is quite high and the stage presentation is awesome. And, if you take it seriously as a betting medium you can win a lot tof money wink. I'm just going to listen to the Netherland's song again as it's one of the best songs I've heard this year. And I love the winning song, too; the winning singer is delighful.

glammanana Sun 19-May-13 09:48:55

So glad thats over for another year, big yawn grin I had to watch Michael Douglas in Wall Street I enjoyed it really its the first time I have ever watched it.

annodomini Sun 19-May-13 10:20:59

Graham Norton's remark about the falsetto Romanian singer was classic: 'Just because you can do something it doesn't mean you should do it.'

Tegan Sun 19-May-13 10:28:25

Don't think he was on top form last night, but he was still good. I never make a point of watching his show but, if I catch a repeat of it when channel hopping I always enjoy it.

Charleygirl Sun 19-May-13 10:32:49

I would not watch that programme any more. For many years the voting has been political which, for me, spoiled it.

Tegan Sun 19-May-13 10:37:19

I find the voting patterns a hoot, especially with either Terry Wogan or Graham Norton talking us through it.

annodomini Sun 19-May-13 10:46:51

Without most of the former Yugoslavian states being involved, the political/tribal aspect of the voting was reduced, although there were still the Scandinavian and former Soviet cliques.

Tegan Sun 19-May-13 11:20:05

Bet Greece went into panic mode with Cyprus not reaching the final wink.

Eloethan Sun 19-May-13 12:28:04

I always used to watch the Eurovision (everybody else in the family used to beat a retreat) because I thought it was just a bit of light hearted fun. Let's face it, most of the songs have always been pretty awful. However, after all the blatant partisan voting of the last few years - and particularly when Andy Abrahams did so badly (I think he got 0 points) - I decided not to bother watching any more.

I was tempted last night to give it another go, and used the excuse of doing some paperwork and filing to have it on in the background. What a horrible caterwauling racket (though I quite like the Malta song). I didn't bother to watch the voting and it sounds like it was the usual farce.

j08 Sun 19-May-13 13:18:16

It's a good bit of entertainment. Very watchable, once a year.

soop Sun 19-May-13 13:41:02

jings I believe that Katie Boyle was the presenter when I last watched Eurovision. She was multi lingual...and pretty with it.

Tegan Sun 19-May-13 13:55:36

I think it falls into the category of 'being so bad it's good' smile.

sunseeker Sun 19-May-13 14:37:52

Haven't watched Graham Norton since he made that tasteless remark after one of the Gibbs brothers died.

When he started out he was very funny - but later just got catty
