I signed up for a free months viewing. Think I will be paying after the free month!

Christmas viewing for me , Larkrise To Candleford.

On my list - Wire In The Blood. Cold Feet. Doc.Martin and more

Jane10 Tue 03-Dec-19 14:05:20

How much is it?

Anniebach Tue 03-Dec-19 14:28:18

£5.99 a month Jane

When I first heard that BBC/ITV were doing Brit Box I thought it was a swizz, asking us to pay for stuff that’s already been on the box. Now I think it sounds a brilliant idea. I mostly watch BBC so it would be right up my street. Enjoy Lark Rise to Candleford Annie, I have asked for the DVD for Christmas.

Anniebach Tue 03-Dec-19 15:09:01

Yes we paid for the BBC programmes but they can’t keep replaying them . ITV. have programmes too and Channel 4
is joining next year.

I don’t want to watch Only Fools and Horses but I didn’t watch
Darling Buds of May when it was on.

You can cancel any time. I read the thread on ‘The Crown’, signed onto Netflix to watch the Aberfan episode, it was so
fictional I cancelled after one day.

kircubbin2000 Tue 03-Dec-19 15:18:51

There are some really good things on Netflix.

Jane10 Tue 03-Dec-19 15:21:07

You may have overreacted to one episode of 'The Crown'!

Chestnut Tue 03-Dec-19 15:24:53

I would be happy to sign up to BritBox if they dug up some of the older programmes, Robin of Sherwood, The Riff Raff Element and even Upstairs Downstairs! These are lost gems.

Any more you would add to the list?

Anniebach Tue 03-Dec-19 15:27:33

No, didn’t overreact Jane, just felt sorry for the people they portray , some are sure to believe it’s true.

TerriBull Tue 03-Dec-19 16:19:38

Annie I haven't watched the latest series of "The Crown" but I gather it hasn't been as well received as the first two series with Claire Foy and Matt Smith, The Queen and Prince Philip respectively, both very good in the roles.

I know Aberfan is personal to you but give series 1 and 2 a go you may well like them.

Jane10 Tue 03-Dec-19 16:20:41

It's a pity that you judged an entire massive archive of films and TV programmes from around the world on only one episode of only one series!! Anniebach.

Chestnut Tue 03-Dec-19 18:06:34

Any other old programmes you'd like to see on BritBox?

Littleannie Wed 04-Dec-19 16:11:16

Chestnut Upstairs Downstairs is on Britbox.
I have just watched The Jewel in the Crown, next on my list is Clocking Off, Boys From the Blackstuff, Cracker, all episodes of Shetland, all episodes of Downton, Brideshead Revisited, Cranford, Little Dorrit, Bleak House, Middlemarch, Forsyte Saga, Yes Minister. And loads more. There are enough to keep me going for months. I have signed up, and am thoroughly enjoying it.

pinkquartz Wed 04-Dec-19 16:15:32

I remember liking A Very Peculiar Practice. That was only on once. I think in the 1980's. That might tempt me.

I only recently bought Only Fools and Horses on eBay as I had never ever seen most of them

Little Dorrit was very good.
Yes I might switch from Netflix to Britbox but will wait a little longer as i need to finish watching "A Good Place"

Chestnut Wed 04-Dec-19 16:41:55

Just seen the list on the Radio Times website. It seems BritBox won't let you see what they have until you've signed up.
radiotimes.production.wcp.imdserve.com/news/2019-11-07/britbox-films-tv-available-stream-launch/
That's enough to keep you going for life, although you won't want it all of course.
Upstairs Downstairs was an absolute classic and is very long (68 episodes). I think the first six episodes are in black 'n white because there was a technician's strike. It hasn't been bettered, although Downton certainly did a good job.

Littleannie Wed 04-Dec-19 16:54:56

Chestnut The Radio Times list isn't quite complete, as they are adding programmes all the time, with Channel 4 joining after Christmas. I emailed them about something, and they tell me a lot of stuff is out on licence at the moment, as it comes back 'in house' it will be added to Britbox. You can always have a free 30 day trial.

Anniebach Wed 04-Dec-19 17:07:05

I watched the 1st episode of Upstairs Downstairs yesterday evening, enjoyed it . I have added Jewel in The Crown and
Forsyth Saga to my list. So many to watch.

A gentler time, suppose a sign of aging ?

Chestnut Wed 04-Dec-19 17:22:11

Can you have multiple usernames where each family member logs in separately and has their own profile and programmes? This is what Netflix has.

Littleannie Wed 04-Dec-19 17:38:26

Don't know Chestnut. If you email them on [email protected] you will get an answer very quickly.

Chestnut Wed 04-Dec-19 18:53:47

Wow, they replied instantly! They don't have that feature at the moment but it may be something they look to in the future.

Chestnut Wed 04-Dec-19 18:56:23

Apparently BritBox is used mostly by older women, which makes sense. We can watch classic programmes we enjoyed years ago and would like to see again.

Anniebach Wed 04-Dec-19 18:59:26

No way would my granddaughters watch Upstairs Downstairs

Littleannie Wed 04-Dec-19 19:53:11

Yes I agree Chestnut. Also British programmes. I don't like American ones, which is why I don't watch Netflix. I am enjoying Britbox very much. Each to their own!

Littleannie Wed 04-Dec-19 20:11:27

Chestnut I have just started watching Upstairs Downstairs. It looks from the list as if the first series is going to be black and white, and then colour from series 2 onwards, but it's actually in colour. Also has subtitles, which some early TV programmes didn't have.

Chestnut Wed 04-Dec-19 23:21:31

Littleannie - as I said above, the first six episodes were in black 'n white because there was a technician's strike.
