Did anyone else watch this programme on BBC4 last night, commemorating his 50th birthday?

Didn’t realise quite how much has been packed into his life.

No mention of his wife and family though, would have been nice to see them. His daughter is an actress I believe.

I’m sorry I missed the programme I love him as a singer and have several of his CD’s including the Blessings one mentioned as a Christmas present. I have listened to him a lot since COVID started as I find his voice calming if I have been stressed.

As to the criticising of accents as someone who is welsh born I find that insulting , a welsh lilt is really pleasant to listen to.

Anthony Hopkins. Dylan Thomas.
A colleague I once fancied like mad.........

Floradora though doesn’t want anyone to have a strong accent
Which is spectacularly snobbish and insular.

My nephew is an opera singer and has toured with Aled Jones and shared a dressing room with him and others. He said he is quite shy but very friendly and pleasant. A perfect gentleman!

I'm really surprised no one has responded to this thread - I saw it yesterday but had too many bits and pieces to sort out and didn't post!
We watched Aled on Songs of Praise at lunchtime on Sunday and the BBC4 programme was mentioned at the end or we would have missed it.
He is really a lovely chap isn't he - we loved him when he was little and he didn't let fame go to his head did he? His parents kept him grounded.
I feel that he shields his family life and I don't blame him to be honest.
He seemed so humble and so unlike other 'celebrities' who go off the rails.
Can't believe he is 50!!!
Try and get his new CD - it's called Blessings and features, among others, Dame Judy Dench and Brian Blessed!!!
It's lovely!

I had the CD as a Christmas present and you're right, it is lovely and I have played it several times since Christmas.
Aled comes across as a gentle gentleman and not a pig gentlemen as men were known in olden days, differentiating between good men and bad.

I too love the lovely Welsh lilt, it's so musical.

Has he really got a strong accent?! I just like listening to what he says and haven’t really noticed! ?

A long while ago, I heard Aled Jones on a radio programme where he had to drink alcohol regularly every day to find out the effects of it.
I don't think he had to get drunk but I remember him saying that he was surprised to find himself feeling dependant on the alcohol really soon in the experiment.
He hadn't expected that, not normally being much of a drinker.
