In the last few months, I have a re/watched a lot of TV series (lockdown). Keep the Homefires Burning, Handmaid's Tale, Duchess of Duke Street, South Riding, Doc Martin, Nip Tuck.

But I have run out. Any suggestions?

I don't like usually like American stuff. Tried House, because of Hugh Laurie but thought it was too shmaltzy.

Like you I find the American films hard to watch.
Although American I watched The Big Bang. There is The Young Sheldon (about a character in the Big Bang when he was a child). It’s all brain rot but brings a smile to me.

I agree. It’s fab, completely addictive. I’ve not long finished the whole lot.

As I live alone - far from the madding crowd!! - I have watched more t.v. than normal but have loved the Yesterday channel. Not everyone's choice but Forgotten Engineering I find fascinating, some of the places they show are unbelievable.

If u have Netflix and don’t mind things a bit gruesome we are watching Ratched. Also Bates motel on iplayer. Just watched Rocketman on Netflix which was really good. I recently watched The Man in the High Castle on Amazon prime and was totally hooked. Also The Queen on Netflix took us a while to cotton onto it but was hooked once we did. Also Bridgerton on Netflix x

How shallow can I get?!! I have watched all the series of “Below Decks”. Real Housewives of on the high seas and stories of charters of luxury boats! Fascinating! Finished now sadly so resorted to Real housewives of Jersey!!!! Quite one of the worst series I have seen but I wanted to watch as I lived in Jersey in my teens!! Really must improve my viewing!

Keeping Faith, Luther and Hustle, all on iPlayer.

I have the Mentalist and West Wing on permanent loop. West Wing, obviously American politics, fun, but I still don't understand a lot. Mentalist very silly detective thriller. I am afraid I am rather addicted to American cop shows and have recently got into all the "boarder crossing" shows, NZ, Oz, USA, Canada, there is even one from Ireland.

Defiantly recommend The Seaside Hotel! Very refreshing, of a different time, lovely costumes too

I’ve also completed your list and also found myself watching The walking Dead (amazon)all ten seasons had me hooked. I’m not normal one who would watch zombies but it’s also a story. Then I went onto watching Game of thrones. Also something I’d was late in catching up on and I used to say it wouldn’t be my cup of tea. I’d recommend them both for gripping stories. Or how about Outlander (amazon) that also good, it’s time travel through some stones, after all every woman needs a Jamie ? I always say give them two exp before you decide if it’s for you or not. I’ve now decided I will watch anything. Because you can’t say you don’t like if you haven’t tried to watch it can you.

I agree with everything you’ve written..I love Jamie! Have you read all the books? They are really good, I highly recommend.

Murder in Paradise - just love it -

Two series I would recommend on Netflix, Designated Survivor and Homeland. American I know but we found both quite gripping and binge worthy.

There are two series which are totally outstanding. For both you need to start at Series 1: Episode 1 to get the full story.

Bramwell
Set in 1895 on Drama Channel. Was available free on UKTV Play but I have written to ask them to keep it on air! Otherwise you can buy it on DVD for £15
Bramwell on Amazon

A Place to Call Home
The best series I have ever watched, ever! Set in Australia in the 1950s. Has won loads of awards. At least some of it may be on UKTV Play
I think it's also on You Tube or you can buy the DVD for £35 which is good value as there are 6 series/67 episodes. A Place to Call Home on Amazon

Yes i'm watching more tv than usual and have just finished on Netflix, Modern Family , lighthearted and in the Waltons style
but enjoyable. 10 seasons

I'll also second Big Bang Theory, Orange is the new black
Homeland and Grace & Frankie , young Sheldon

Well, I feel really bad as I have watched most of what everyone has posted. I like to knit and watch TV at the same time so at least I feel like I am being productive. I really enjoyed Spooks, Silent Witness, Luther (Alice is my favourite) and things like that. I am at a loss as to what to watch this afternoon so I will have a trawl through Netflix etc. What would we do without the TV ? wine

Try Engranage (French crime series) its Spiral in the Uk - sub titles but excellent.

Shandy57 Sat 15-May-21 11:22:00

Have you got Amazon Prime? I really, really enjoyed Mad Men, its is about advertising in Manhattan in the 60's. Covered fashions, social history - it was fantastic!

I went on to watch Anne with an E on Netflix, some upsetting scenes on the dreadful way the First Nations were treated.

I've just finished Leonardo with Aiden Turner, also on Netflix.

I also recommend Schitt's Creek - the characters are endearing, I was sorry it ended.

kathw12 Sat 15-May-21 11:24:57

Also 800 words on iplayer an easy watch especially if u watched A Place to Call Home x

Shandy57 Sat 15-May-21 11:29:14

Just thought of a few more series - The Crown, Ozark, Queen's Gambit, The Fall, Modern Family, Breaking Bad (best thing I've seen in years).

I hope Netflix buy the new Anthony Hopkins film, The Father.

Hill St. Blues and St. Elsewhere are available on channel 4, started watching them recently. They were great at the time and have lost nothing with the passage of time. I highly recommend.
I’m also watching The Black List which I’m throughly enjoying. There are 8 series, all with 20 or more episodes. I’m on series 6, usually watch a couple a night.
I can very highly recommend Strike Back. Action /adventure spy drama, it’s one of my most favourite series of all time. The chemistry between the two main characters, Scott and Stonebridge is great. This would be my Desert Island choice!

As I am housebound and disabled the TV or DVD Or recorder is on all the time. I don’t like horror or sci fi. Have been told that I should watch Line of Duty. I subscribe to Cinema Paradiso. You get two DVDs at a time. Their lists are incredible. Not only films but TV series from years ago and foreign films and latest releases. I like French ones. Outlander I enjoyed. Have recently been watching Tales of the Unexpected on Sky Arts. There are 88 episodes of Not Going Out on I player.

HannahLoisLuke Sat 15-May-21 11:36:11

Shandy57 I’ve just searched for Leonardo on Netflix and can’t find it. Would love to watch it.

Diggingdoris Sat 15-May-21 11:42:04

Luther would be on my list.
Ive just started watching the first series of silent witness. It is very different from recent ones. More sex than these days which surprised me.!

bunny17 Sat 15-May-21 11:44:41

Just finished Luther....on BBC Idris player ?? that's what I've renamed it....loved him ?

Visgir1 Sat 15-May-21 11:49:21

If you like horses... Hartland, set on a Ranch in Canada.
Everyone I have told has got hooked. About 13 series so it's long!
Waiting for series 14 to be released its on Netflix..

Tooyoungytobeagrandma Sat 15-May-21 12:00:22
